A Rise In Business Owners Refusing Gay Customers, Ryan Field Books
A Rise In Business Owners Refusing Gay Customers
As a former small business owner, I always thought that when you own a business and when you are open to the public in general you should never discriminate against anyone. I know it's not something I would do. And it's really not a matter of free speech for me. Your race, your religion, or how you identify is not my concern. I'm only there to serve you in a fair and honest manner. It's a matter of human rights...a basic matter. You don't have to ...

FREE Gay Non-Fiction: The Naked Tenent; A Memoir by Ryan Field, Ryan Field Books
FREE Gay Non-Fiction; The Naked Tenant; A Memoir by Ryan Field
A few months ago I posted about our big move and how traumatic it was for us both. Here's a link to that post. I don't want to get into it here. Those who have been following me on this website since around 2008 know how much Tony and I loved our home. I was constantly posting about our lives and our projects, with photos. It was a very special place, but we've moved forward and we're living totally different lives now.
And I've writ...

Ugandan Mom Who Was Ashamed of Her Gay Son, Ryan Field Books
Ugandan Mom Who Was Ashamed of Her Gay Son
I try hard with stories like this. It's not just a story about a poor mom who found out she has a gay kid. It goes deeper than that, and the homophobia is a different brand of hate. I don't feel sorry for parents of gay children any longer. I see no valid reason why there should be any shame or embarrassment associated with being gay. Being gay is not a crime and it's not a sin, and just so you know it never was. I have reached a point in my life where ...

Lucie Arnaz Speaks Up About the Newest Lucy-Desi Movie Coming Out Soon; Ryan Field Books
Lucie Arnaz Speaks Up About the Newest Lucy-Desi Movie Coming Out Soon
I know this isn't publishing or gay-related news, but it is pop culture. And I think a lot of my readers are Lucy fans. At least that's what I see on social media. I'm also not even sure how Lucie Arnaz shows up in my Facebook feed. All of a sudden she's just there. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she lives in Palm Springs and we just moved to Palm Springs full time. Social media has a way of knowing these thi...

The Twitter Troll Life of David Leavitt, Ryan Field Books
The Twitter Troll Life of David Leavitt
Believe it or not, there are people out there who only have one talent in life. They know how to piss other people off. And many of them actually do very well, too. It's just that there are so many of them sometimes.
One of those people is Twitter Troll, David Leavitt. And according to this article, sometimes it backfires.
While routinely playing host to racists, bullies, and all matters of undesirables, Leavitt’s tweet crossed a line. It wasn’t a jab at a ...

Lance Bass Splains Why Colton Underwood Is Monetizing the Experience of Being Gay, Ryan Field Books
Lance Bass Splains Why Colton Underwood Is Monetizing the Experience of Being Gay
This is rich. Lance Bass, who never, ever exploited his own gayness for a buck (or good free publicity), is now claiming that Colton Underwood is monetizing the experience of being gay. I've been posting about Underwood...and defending him...for over a week now. He's the sweetest guy who was on The Bachelor TV show and recently came out. And it was a very difficult thing for the poor guy to do. I'm stunned, once ag...

The New Amazon Streaming Series, "Them," Is Disturbing, Ryan Field Books
The New Amazon Streaming Series, "Them" Is Disturbing
We started watching "Them" a few nights ago and I'm stunned by how graphic and violent it really is. I'd read a few things about it, but I often think people exaggerate. In this case, I have to say that the people writing about all the horrific things that happen in "Them" are definitely not exaggerating.
The racism alone is portrayed in such a disturbing way it's often difficult to watch.
The story of “Them” — a structure that follows an ou...

Parents of Gay Teen Who Died by Suicide Sue School, Ryan Field Books
Parents of Gay Teen Who Died by Suicide Sue School
While straight people argue about Colton Underwood coming out, things like this continue to happen and they never even notice it. They're more worried about some straight woman being offended because a man turned out to be gay after all. But you never hear them talking about things like this. They go silent...totally blank.
The principal "did not offer any assistance or take any responsibility to make sure that this child was protected and nurtur...

No, No Way, Not On Your Life, It's Not Time For A Season of The Gay Bachelor, TV People, Ryan Field Books
No, No Way, Not On Your Life, It's Not Time For A Season of The Gay Bachelor
I have a problem every time I see a little bit of gay culture disappearing. I know a TV show isn't a huge thing, but it's still an example of all the culture they are trying to take away from us. It also sends out all the wrong messages to straight people. I know that I'm a bit overly sensitive because I've seen how they straight wash us in books in the publishing industry. That alone is cringe.
Oddly enough, I think th...

"Bachelor" Star Colton Underwood Comes Out And Straight People Need to Be Quiet, Ryan Field Books
"Bachelor" Star Colton Underwood Comes Out and Straight People Need to Be Quiet
There's been a good deal of banter on Twitter about Colton Underwood coming out as gay and I can't tell you how homophobic it's been. It's cringe at best sometimes.
I'm not talking about outright hateful homophobia. I'm talking about the passive-aggressive kind like this comment that came from a straight woman: "I don't care about anyone's sexuality, but he was lying to women all along and that's wrong."
No. He wasn't ...
