Matt Bomer Discusses Coming Out of the Closet...

I like to post these articles because I know for a fact that there are many gay men...of all ages...who are still in the closet. I also know articles like this help them understand that they aren't alone.
"White Collar" hunk Matt Bomer has been praised in both the media and the blogosphere for subtly acknowledging his sexuality , which had been the subject of rampant media speculation, at an awards ceremony in February.
"What we really have to do is stop the adjective before the job title—whethe...

"Literary Smut" Goes Mainstream in Time Magazine

In Time Magazine this week there's an interesting article by Katie Arnold-Ratliff that talks about erotica, titled "(At Least) Fifty Shades of Erotica." I can't link because I read this in the print edition...yes I still have a few print magazine subscriptions (gasp) and I'm going to continue to renew them until I can't anymore.
For the people who read blogs like mine, and other blogs like this, the article says nothing new. In fact, it's about as "new" as power steering. But, it's o...

I Love You, but I'm Not Your Beta Reader...

I just opened the most unusual e-mail I think I've ever had from a published author, and this post is just a small rant about what that e-mail contained.
At first I thought it was spam...one of those I'm trapped in a foreign country and I need your help things. Or, if you give me your bank number I'll put a million dollars into your account.
I usually just delete and don't even read. But this looked different.
And it was different. Evidently, it's some kind of author promotion where...

Catherine Ryan Hyde on Writing in the E-Age...
I've posted about author Catherine Ryan Hyde's adventures in self-publishing before. Reading her posts helped me while I was just getting into self-publishing with my first book, "Chase of a Lifetime," with the KDP program at Amazon.
And now she has a new book out with author Anne R. Allen, titled "How to be a Writer in the E-Age and Keep Your Sanity."
It IS a book about how to BE a writer. How to take care of yourself and avoid getting scammed; how to make sense of criticism;...

Why I Wonder About the Future of Short Story Anthologies...

What made me think about this happened last week. I was lurking around on absolutewrite reading comments in a forum by authors who were discussing royalties and payments with regard to anthologies. For those who don'...

Gays As Parents; Gays in Long Term Relationships

Although the last one is a little peculiar...at least it is to me...the other myths they discuss are right on target.
Another stereotype is that gay relationships aren't as real or long-lasting as heterosexual ones.
Research has found that to be untrue. Long-term studies of gay couples indicate that their relationships are just as stable as straight pairings. "There is considerable evidence that both lesbians and gay m...

Jennifer Weiner Talks About Social Media and Controversial Topics
The article to which I'm linking in galleycat discusses women's fiction author Jennifer Weiner's take on social media...which covers many aspects, from blogging to twitter.
The quote below is pariticularly interesting to me because it took me a while to find a comfort zone as far as blogging went. Even though I'd spent a long time reviewing and interviewing bloggers for BGB I still had trouble figuring out what I wanted to do with my blog. I put it off for a long time, until I...

Fourth of July Week: Provincetown...

Though Tony and I used to spend every Labor Day Week and New Year's Eve in P'town, we haven't been there in a few years because we've just been too busy...and one of the dogs is older and driving seven hours through New England is hard on him. And I don't board or trust pet sitters...
