1Placeforromance.com Closed to New Sales...

After the post I just wrote about small e-presses staying in business if large publishers start to compete, this e-mail from 1placeforromance.com set me on edge a little. I didn't expect it.

I have books there for sale with loveyoudivine.com. I've shopped for books there before. I've enjoyed going there to read about other books that aren't mine. In fact, while I was writing the previous post Tony was setting "Chase of a Lifetime" up on ARe, as we continue to distribute it to more retail web...

Self-Pubbed Romance Author Lands Book Deal with SS

Self-pubbed romance author, Jaime McGuire, lands a book deal with Simon & Schuster, under the "Atria" imprint. The book title is Beautiful Disaster.

And, this is going to be digital first publishing:

That book is currently ranked No.1 on our Self-Published Bestsellers List and has sold more than 200,000 copies. Atria will publish the eBook now with a trade paperback coming out in August. In addition, Atria bought the rights to Walking Disaster, the sequel to her novel.

Evidently, McGuire isn't...

Something VERY Different with New Indie Book, "Chase of a Dream"

I'll be doing something very different with the sequel to "Chase of a Lifetime," that I've titled, "Chase of a Dream." First, CoaD is a 58,000 word full length novel, and it's a stand alone...you don't have to read the first book to know what's happening in the second book. In a series, I personally prefer each book to stand alone when I'm reading.

And this is still a very humble venture for me. I'm still learning a great deal about self-publishing and I'm still taking small steps forward. Fo...

"Writing in the E-Age," Writer's Manual, and Hunter Parrish on iTunes...

I posted about Catherine Ryan Hyde's and Anne R. Allen's new writer's manual titled, "How To Be a Writer in the E-Age," last week and wanted to follow up today with a short post. I bought the book over the weekend and I'm halfway through it.

So far, not one complaint. I have to admit that although I haven't learned anything new, what I have read in the book validates a lot of the things I've been doing for the past seven years in e-publishing. In other words, I wish there had been a book like...

Anthony Romero on Fiverr...

I've posted a few times about blogger, Anthony Romero, before. I had a chance to read a few raw things he'd written and was stunned at how good they are. It's that kind of natural writing talent I don't see very often...before too many opinions and too much advice from too many know-it-alls fuck a writer up.

I've also posted about my fascination with the web site, Fiverr.com. It's that web site, for those who don't know, where people will basically do anything for five bucks.

And last night I...

MapQuest, Google, and Ashton Kutcher's Foursquare.com

This off-publishing topic interests me because I've never really needed GPS or any kind of map service to get me from point A to point B. I even posted about it here before once in one of my WTF posts. My mom and dad live by Onstar; I have friends who never leave the house without using some kind of GPS.

I've never really needed it. But I do like to keep up just in case I do need something one day. This article from Cnet talks about MapQuest and free voice prompts for route guidance.

In the o...

Why I'm Not Always Fond of Pen Names for Myself...

Before I get into the explanation of why I'm not always fond of pen names for myself, I'd like to mention first that I'm not against pen names at all. I know more authors using pen names than their real names and I support them and see nothing wrong with it. Authors have their own reasons for using pen names and I would never question those reasons. But I'd like to explain why there are cases where pen names don't always work out well, and give examples from my own personal experiences with t...

July 15th: QMO Magazine Reopening; Open Call to Contribute

On July 15th, QMO online magazine will be reopening. I heard this straight from the owner and I'm posting the information below that I received in the e-mail, with his permission.

I'm working on a post right now to contribute to the opening that deals with how writers and readers of erotic romance are often looked down upon by people in other genres. It's a topic I've been interested in for a long time and I've never said anything about it...Are Readers and Writers of Erotic Romance Underesti...

Android, Small Tablets, and Apple

Here's an interesting article from CNET that discusses the rumor of a small tablet kind of/sort of iPad from Apple. But with android tablets working so well for so many people is it really necessary for Apple to compete in this market?

I've posted about how much I love my Nextbook tablet more than once. For me, the Nextbook tablet was the alternative to an iPad...because I have three dedicated e-readers, an iPhone, and three working computers. I'm not even counting Tony's notebook, his comput...
