Different Definitions of New Adult Fiction

The more I read about New Adult Fiction, and the more definitions I read that are different, the more confused I get sometimes. On one hand I see real new adults...the people who are writing new adult and are actually new adults...doing something interesting based on their personal experiences, which I think I like the most so far. Then I see the mainstream media pronounce new adult as the new version of YA smut, which I don't agree with at all. And of course, I've also seen the sex police bloggers trying...

Straight No More: Free Excerpt

I recently submitted a short story to German publisher, Bruno Gmunder, for an anthology that was titled Straight No More. I'll post more about that in the future, and I'm posting a raw excerpt below, but I thought the title was interesting from a gay for you perspective.
I couldn't help wondering whether or not straight no more is anything like gay for you...or if they are both the same thing. I tend to think they are related in many ways, and I enjoyed writing this story because I don't usual...

Let's Not Forget About Small E-Presses

Let's not forget about small e-presses, because they don't seem to get any attention from publishing blogs...ever. In the past few weeks I've posted about Barry Eisler getting dissed by literary agents because he's so focused on self-publishing, I've posted about self-pubbed authors who were getting screwed over with e-publishing services, and I've even posted about the differences between trad publishing and self-publishing.
But even I've been remiss in mentioning small e-press...

Women Who Love to Love Gay Romance Anthology
I wanted to update the information on Women Who Love to Love Gay Romance Anthology in a post of its own instead of linking it with other posts today. If you haven't read about this, you can check it out here. This was the actual call for submissions page.
Submissions are now closed, and I have received some excellent stories from some very talented writers. I will be finishing up a project I'm working on for German Publisher Bruno Gmunder this week, and I'll be getting back to every...

Hurricane Sandy: Prince Harry in New Jersey Today

It seems like ages ago I posted about Hurricane Sandy and all the devastation it caused here, and I thought it would be nice to follow up with this piece about Prince Harry visiting the New Jersey shore today and checking out how people there have rebuilt their lives since last October. We're still cleaning up here, in New Hope, Bucks County, which is about fifty miles from the shore, from the high winds that took down so many huge trees.
"He is so cute. He came in with that white shirt...

Amazon Buys Liquavista; Classic Books New Covers; Plus Size Model Robyn Lawley

Amazon not only bought Liquavista from Samsung, they've also launched their own line of digital money/tokens called Amazon Coins. One Amazon coin is worth a penny.
The purchase price for Liquavista was not disclosed. Bloomberg News reported earlier this year that Samsung was seeking less than $100 million for the business. Samsung bought the Netherlands-based company in early 2011 for an undisclosed sum. A Samsung spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment on Monday.
To try to make th...

Smashwords Helps Authors Sell Books
When Tony sent me this link earlier today, I figured I'd post it for anyone interested in reading about e-book pricing and where the average is for e-books. For those of us who have books out with publishers we don't get much of a choice in the matter. The publishers set the prices and we have to live with them.
But for authors who have self-published, there's a different rule of thumb because you're cutting out the middle man, so to speak, which is the publisher, and in some cases the agent....

Howard Kurtz Bungles Jason Collins Story; Eight Gay Athletes Fear Coming Out

When I read about the way Howard Kurtz bungled the recent story about Jason Collins coming out, I went back to my original post about Collins and checked my own facts. I'm only an amateur blogger. I write fiction, not news. But I do post things that I think my readers will find interesting here on this amateur blog, and I don't get paid anything for doing it. Clearly, not the figures Howard Kurtz receives.
In an embarrassing mea culpa of some magnitude, Kurtz, a former media reporter for the...

Freedom to Marry: Military Spouse Appreciation Day
I'm a day or two late to the forum with this, but I wanted to post something I received from Freedom to Marry about Military Spouse Appreciation Day. I think it's important to share anything like this nowadays, with the impending decision SCOTUS will make this June on same sex marriage.
From my inbox:
Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Ryan.
On this day, we thank all the husbands and wives around the world for the sacrifices they've made, for their undying support that allows...
