Stephen King Refuses E-book Format: I'll Read J. A. Konrath Instead
When I read that Stephen King is refusing to release his next book in e-book format, I did a search to make sure I hadn't missed something. I thought surely this must be a mistake. However, I have two links and it's evident King is serious about this.
I wonder if this is for publicity. I wonder if this is something personal to him. I always thought that the print books I was in would always remain print books and I took a silent pride in that. But when they all started being released in digit...

Men Wearing Nail Polish; Behind the Candelabra; FREE Excerpt Cowboy Bad Boy

For the past few weeks the topic of men wearing nail polish has been following me around for some reason and I decided to look for some viable links and post about it.
I'm not sure this would be considered gender bending. From what I gather the men who wear men's nail polish are straight, have no inclination to be cross dressers or transgenders, and it's nothing more than a fashion statement from them.
A few years ago, Josh Espley, a former marketing exec for a sex toy company called Fleshlig...

KDP Newsletter: Amazon Review Rules To Make You Smile

Here are some interesting parts of the most recent KDP Newsletter, and a few rules and guidelines about Amazon reviews that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
Here's the good stuff first.
How to write a good book description. Good to know for all authors, especially those who didn't come up in the trenches of the query wars like I did. (You learn this when you learn to write a good query letter.)
One of the most crucial elements to selling a book can also be one of the most difficult...

Book Review Mafia? Justin Bieber's Monkey; Feminists and Transphobia

Is there a book review mafia?
A friend of mine thinks there is. I'm not so sure.
Tony and I went to dinner with two writer friends in Manayunk this past Saturday night (it's a very nice place in a section of Philadelphia), and one of these two writers went into a rant about the book review mafia during dinner that left my ears ringing. One thing I don't like to do when I'm not working is talk about work...especially book reviews, especially on weekends. Thankfully, my friend stopped...

Will Amazon Coins Last Long?

Will Amazon coins last long?
I don't have a clue. For those who don't know what Amazon coins are, you can read more about them here. I've been interested in these new Amazon coins since I heard Amazon issued 500 to each Kindle Fire customer. Not from an interested consumer's POV, but more from a business POV.
I doubt I'll ever use them. I use an iPad for everything now, even Kindle purchases, so I didn't get any freebies. And frankly, I don't want to be bothered with them at this poi...

What is Homophobia? Internalized Homophobia

In keeping with the theme of my post for the Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia, I thought I'd check out a few links about homophobia and share them. Each web site is dedicated to homophobia for LGBT people in one way or another. Though some cover broad territory, they are all working hard to stop homophobia.
What is homophobia?
As defined by ADL, Anti-Defamation League, homophobia is put this way.
Homophobia is the hatred or fear of homosexuals - that is, lesbians and gay men - s...

What I'm Reading: Nighttime Wishes by MA Church

I'm reading Nighttime Wishes by MA Church right now, so this isn't a review. It's more of a recommendation from me, being a reader now...also a tech idiot sometimes when it comes to certain things...about the place where I purchased this e-book.
Though I've self-pubbed my own books, I've always depended on Tony's experience and his tech abilities to do the serious things. Even though I'm learning and getting better all the time, and I can shop like a trooper anywhere on the Internet, a lo...

Mean Matt Bomer Comments and Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia; Chris Pine on Women

This is the first post I've done about Matt Bomer playing the lead in the film version of Fifty Shades of Grey in a while. Matt Bomer is a very talented young actor who I've seen in a variety of roles. And while I would love to see him in Fifty Shades because I think he'd be perfect, not everyone agrees.
"Only problem for me is Bomer is gay and knowing that, not that I have anything against it, is that...

Questionable Advice Literary Agents Gave to New Adult Author Colleen Hoover
In a post I wrote yesterday about New Adult fiction, I linked to an article where they mentioned self-published New Adult author, Colleen Hoover, where literary agents gave her questionable advice even after her book had come out and hit the NYT bestseller list.
I found it interesting that Colleen Hoover was told by literary agents that she had to change the novel from the first person to the third person...for my own personal reasons.
"I did try to query agents and I got a lot of reject...

Hop Against Homophobia and Transgenderphobia...HAHaT

Last year I missed out on the Hop Against Homophobia and Transgender phobia (HAHat) because I was so completely engrossed in self-publishing I literally didn't pay attention to much else that was going on around me. And when I found out about it after the fact, I made a point to remember to do something about it this year. This brand of hate and bullying is something that's gotten better over the years, but is still around in many places. And I think it's important to make people aware of it...
