Gay Survivor Benefits

The Bayer company is being sued by the survivor in a same sex marriage because Bayer is refusing to pay survivor pension benefits. Gerald Passaro and Thomas Buckholz were legally married in Connecticut in 2008, and before that together for 13 years. Buckholz was a twenty year employee of Bayer and he died in 2009 only months after the wedding. At the time, there were legal complications they wouldn't have faced today.

Passaro sought the benefits the company’s pe...

Author Social Media

Here's an article that talks about how authors should use social media. I cross-posted it earlier today on social media and I got around to reading it a few minutes ago and wanted to mention a few things.

First, they talk about Goodreads. (This social media outlet always conjures up the most interesting conversation between authors.)

Goodreads has more than 20 million members and is THE site for authors.

I don't totally agree with that. I thought Goodreads was for read...

Gay Films Are Sad: Abdi Nazemian; My Chacha Is Gay; Harry Hamlin On Playing Gay

Gay Films are Sad: Abdi Nazemian

I post about this topic less than I should, and that's partly because it's so frustrating these days. Gay people are almost always portrayed poorly in films, they are often portrayed poorly in books, and I don't even read reviews of gay books anymore because most of the people reviewing them don't know the first thing about gay men or gay culture. And why should they? They've learned about gay men from bad films and books.

The biggest frustration...

Sexy Gay Swimwear; Penis Bulge Contest; Bianca Del Rio's Film Debut

Sexy Gay Swimwear

What's interesting about this article is that you don't have to be Trevor Donovan built to put on a swim suit and go to the beach. In fact, if anything the article is celebrating the male body in a way that would be nice if it continued. In other words, you don't have to be perfect like the air brushed photos you have been seeing in magazines for years.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a perfectly chiseled physique or rock hard six-pack to look good in a sw...

Teenage Sex Predator

I'm not even sure where to begin with this article to which I'm linking because I don't think I've read anything like it before. It's written by a guy who initiated sex and admittedly manipulated situations to have sex with men twice his age when he was around 14 and 15 years old. The best I can say is that it's not the typical sex predator account, and it is by no means the standard abused victim POV we hear often about sex between 30 year olds and 15 year...

June Official Gay Pride Month

The President has officially dedicated the month of June to Gay Pride. With that, a call to end all  discrimination in the US followed.

'Now, therefore, I, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2014 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month,' he said.

‘I call upon the people of the United States...

BEA 2014

This article states that floor traffic has been heavy at BEA 2014, and it's the most active, the most popular, and the best BEA ever to hit the face of the planet. I almost expected to read that a choir of literary agents stood up and sang Let It Go. This information also comes from the VP of Publishing Strategy at St. Martin's Press. I've heard other versions.

The one thing that remains consistent from everything I've read and everything I hear from people at BEA this year...

Straight-Gay Marriage Modern Family; FREE Excerpt; Advertorials Suck; Hot Cop of Castro Street

Straight-Gay Marriage

This article brings a whole new conversation to the table with marriage equality. It's not about same sex marriage. It's about a straight person marrying a gay person. And it's being promoted by the two actors who play a gay couple on Modern Family.

I don't watch Modern Family, but I think I'm getting this right with regard to the characters. The guy who plays "Cam" in gayface, Eric Stonestreet, and his acting partner who plays "Mitch," Jesse Tyler Ferguson, talk...

Gay Marriage Continues; BEA 2014

Gay Marriage Continues

I think this is one of the best articles I've read that talks about how gay marriage is gaining strength everywhere thanks to last June's SCOTUS ruling.

"With each one, it becomes harder for states to argue that these bans should be upheld, and it becomes harder for courts to uphold them," says Camilla Taylor, marriage project director at Lambda Legal, one of several gay rights groups juggling multiple court cases. "No court wants to be the one court that got it wrong an...

Storme DeLarverie RIP

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stonewall_Inn_1969.jpg

One of the pioneers of equality who helped us all achieve the rights we have today died on Saturday morning. Storme DeLarverie lived to be 93 years old and was 49 years old during the Stonewall Riots in 1969, an event that sparked what we now know as The Gay Liberation Movement.

When the police raided the bar her scuffle with them spurred patrons to fight back.

DeLarverie, dubbed by some ‘the gay community’s Rosa Parks,’ was born to a black mother and...
