So Just What Is a "Nepo Baby?" Ryan Field Books

So Just What Is a Nepo Baby?

Well, for starters Nepo is short for Nepotism.

When I started out in book publishing I knew no one. I had no contacts, I had no one mentioning me, and I had to fight and claw every single step of the way. And I actually have a best friend, Harvey Klinger, who is a famous literary agent. He did nothing for me and we never mix business with pleasure. I finally found a niche in writing short erotic stories for gay publishers. I was never rejected, not once. And I took t...

What Is ChatGPT? Ryan Field Books

 What Is ChatGPT?

There is something new out there called "ChatGPT." It was founded by Open AI, a company helped formed by Elon Musk. AI is supposed to help humanity through artificial intelligence. From what I gather, ChatGPT a chatbot that can do anything from help students cheat to write children's books. I've been hearing a lot about it on Twitter from poor misguided newbie authors who are worried it's going to kill publishing. And that's almost laughable.

With that said, here is how Urban Di...

Patrons of NYC Gay Bar Robbed in the Worst Possible Way, Ryan Field Books

Patrons of NYC Gay Bar Robbed in the Worst Possible Way

I was just talking about this with my gay brother who lives in NYC. He, and all of the gay men he knows in NY, are really concerned about this.

3 men went to a gay bar in NYC and were robbed of thousands through facial recognition through their phones. All men are middle aged and it happened at a Chelsea bar called The Eagle NYC.

The police have not made any arrests as of yet.

“What we think is happening with this scheme is they’re being lur...

Gay Culture: Who Was Miss Mazeppa, Ryan Field Books

Gay Culture: Who Was Miss Mazeppa?

You can look far and wide, but I doubt you'll find a gay book written by a straight who mentions Miss Mazeppa. And that's because it's a part of gay culture mostly older gay men know. That's how I learned about these things: through older gay men and women.

"Once I was a schlepper, now I'm Miss Mazeppa." It's a quote from the play Gypsy that gay men have been using for years. It's from the song, You Gotta Get a Gimmick. Nowadays it's pure camp.

The original Mis...

New Zealand's Rugby Player Campbell Johnstone Comes Out As Gay, Ryan Field Books

New Zealand's Rugby Player Campbell Johnstone Comes Out As Gay

I'm always saying that there are millions of gay people still in the closet and here is one more example.

Famous New Zealand rugby player, Campbell Johnstone, recently came out as gay after being in the closet for years. He's hoping to take away the pressure and the stigma, and thankfully he's right about that. For millions, there is still stigma and shame associated with being gay, and some never do come out.

“But if I open up that ...

The Way We Almost Were and its Unsoliciated Reviews, Ryan Field Books

The Way We Almost Were and its Unsolicited Reviews

I don't often post about my own books in so much detail, especially not the reviews. I have always believed, in the last almost 30 years writing, that reviews are for the reviewer and not the author.

With that said, authors need reviews and the unsolicited kind are the most valuable. In most cases, these reviews are the most honest and the ones we need. And it doesn't matter about whether or not they are raving reviews or bad reviews. As long as...

Why Effeminate Men Have It So Rough, Ryan Field Books

Why Effeminate Men Have It So Rough

Here's an article to which I'm linking that discusses effeminate gay men, and why they always have it so difficult, especially in the workplace.

And a good deal if this has to do with masculine bias. I see it on social media all the time, especially on Twitter. Some of these conservative quasi masculine gay men who follow the "LGB" movement are vicious toward effeminate gay men. But it can come from all directions

And it's straight men, too. Both masculine gay ...

The Last of Us' Gay Love Story, Ryan Field Books

The Last of Us' Gay Love Story

I know absolutely nothing about The Last of Us. I don't know anything about it being a gay love story either. They called Call Me by Your Name a gay love story and it was nothing of the kind. With a simple search I found out it's an apocalyptic drama on HBO.

And yet, here is something well-acted and solidly-told. Finally, most importantly, it is a romance between two men, Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett).

Here's more. Nick Offerman is not gay in real...

The Way We Were's Secret Gay Back Story, Ryan Field Books

The Way We Were's Secret Gay Back Story

When my publisher, at the time, asked me to write a book titled The Way We Almost Were, as a gay parody of the hetero film, The Way We Were, I had no idea about any of this gay back story. My book is simply the gay version with a great deal of parody and camp. Oddly, I got some good reviews for this one...totally unexpected. But I'm truly thankful.

In any event,  I'm learning all this for the first time, too.

The Way We Almost Were

There's a book out titled...

Man Sentenced to 45 Years in Prison For Targeting a Gay Man on a Hook Up App, Ryan Field Books

Man Sentenced to 45 Years in Prison For Targeting a Gay Man on a Hook Up App

For those of you who use hook up apps all the time, you might want to pay attention closely this time. A man from Louisiana was recently  sentenced to 45 years in jail for kidnapping and trying to murder a gay man. Apparently, this was in the making for months. He also targeted other gay men.

“The facts of this case are truly shocking, and the defendant’s decision to specifically target gay men is a disturbing reminder ...
