In Kendle's Fire the main character refers to himself as an "ex-Marine." There's a reason for this that I can't say because I don't want to give out any spoilers. But it's a valid reason and I did it on purpose, with all due respect to the Marines. This is a special case, and I support everyone in the military 100%, without question.

I hear this discussion all the time in RL with friends. It's not that they think the acronym itself is irrelevant. It's just that they're confused and sometimes even irritated by all the other additions to the acronym. Most, if not all of the people I know, don't even know what the added letters stand for.

I think articles like this are almost always slanted. I don't trust polls here in the US anymore, so I'm clearly not going to trust polls in Russia. In other words, this could be fact or fiction.
In any event, here's what one poll in Russia recently came up with.
More than 80 percent of Russians consider gay sex "reprehensible," showing a massive spike in LGBT intolerance over the past two decades, according to a new poll.
