Happy Valentine’s Day!
Happy Valentines Day from Leading with Honor! We inserted this beautiful quote from advice columnist Ann Landers in our upcoming new book, Captured by Love.
More than valentine cards, candy, and flowers, it sums up the depth of love and dedication that two people can have for one another –
Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weakness.

Leadership History Lesson for February 12th
On this day in leadership history in 2002, Kenneth Lay, former Enron CEO, exercised his constitutional rights and refused to testify to the U.S. Congress about the collapse of Enron.
Whats the leadership lesson? Honorable leaders know that the truth will come to light over time regardless of the circumstances. Courageously seek the truth in your day-to-day work.

Father-Son Reader Testimony
So grateful for stories like this from Hal Lanier I have been mesmerized by your podcast interview with Jocko Willink, so much so, that Im reading your book Leading with Honor to my 12-year-old son as part of our bedtime routine. He is captivated as well and weve been listening to the podcast interview during our drive time for the extra color commentary.
The book & interview have led to some great conversations about resilience, positive mindset..all the things a 12-year-old (and his dad) need to be hearing. I wanted you to know your story & book are having an impact on my family. Thank you!

4 Quick Tips to Better Companionship at Work
As a workplace leader (or teammate), are you being intentional about connecting with the hearts of your people? If youre truly serious about getting results and keeping the most talented people on your team, let me encourage you to be intentional about the idea of companionship. Here are four ways to practice it
Spend some intentional social time with your people to get to know them and discover whats on their mind. Engage them and ask them some simple questions about their work and life. Just listen and dont try to tell them how to fix it.
Identify some of their talents and encourage their use of them.
Pause to reflect on how you can make this person feel special and then do it. Remember even the small things noticed and mentioned can mean a lot.
Remember to smile when you see them. Smiles are simple yet powerful rays of love and acceptance that lift the emotions of others.
The reality is that companionship is a powerful tool to build positive energy and emotional health. Dont be a lone ranger. Embrace the idea of companionship for yourself and others to raise the bar of excellence on your life and leadership.

Leadership History Lesson for February 5th
On this day in leadership history in 1937, U.S. President Roosevelt proposed enlarging the U.S. Supreme Court. The plan failed.
Whats the leadership lesson? What do honorable leaders do when their plan fails? They review, evaluate, ask others input, and decide how to proceed with another plan if it makes sense. Failure is a learning opportunity.
