Thrills and Chills Giveaway – Lisa Renee Jones Guest Blog

THE STORM THAT IS STERLING

by LISA RENEE JONES

Zodius #2 — Previously titled: THE RENEGADE CONQUEST

Sourcebooks Casablanca (November 2011)

ISBN-10: 1402251599

ISBN-13: 978-1402251597

I love romantic suspense. In fact, it was a romantic suspense novel that landed me my first agent. That book didn't sell, but an editor told my agent she thought I should be writing in the paranormal genre. Since then, I've delved into paranormal pretty heavily, but one of the reasons I write for Blaze, is I love the real life – this could really happen – storylines. To me, a good suspenseful story has that element of real life possibility as well. Anything that you think might really happen to you, or someone you know, takes on an edge of danger that reaches beyond the pages of the book, or the screen you are watching a film/television show on. Those are the stories that really scare me. Of course, I say that but put me in a movie seat with zombies on the screen and I'll scream so loud the entire theater will know I'm there. They aren't real but dang it, they hit some horror story spot in me that I don't like. DH, of course, just LOVES zombies.

In THE STORM THAT IS STERLING I've created a world that began to take form for me way back in 2004 when I was traveling to Vegas often and always hoped for a trip to Area 51. Somehow, the roulette tables always won my attention but not my imagination. My ex-father-in-law was in the army, at Roswell, and part of the cleanup. We found this out near the end of his life. He never talked about it until right before he died and even then it was cryptic. He said enough to make me believe there could be some reality to government facility with secret government programs. What if the government was/is creating super soldiers and hiding them? Men who fight for their country with a little extra 'something something' going for them? I started this series at Ellora's Cave and stepped away from it but it never let go of me. I wanted to write it but different which lead to the creation of THE ZODIUS SERIES.

In THE STORM THAT IS STERLING, Sterling is a tormented solider who has lost everyone he has ever loved. He doesn't intend to lose Vegas to a new street drug killing its users. Finding the people behind this drug, will bring him face to face with a woman from his past whom he'd had feelings for. Solving the mystery of the drug, and of who is selling it, will make him dare to love, dare to risk losing someone again. But saving his city might mean losing the only woman he has ever loved.

More about THE STORM THAT IS STERLING HERE

And what better way to read Sterling's story than on a NOOK COLOR?! Want to win one? Just comment here today for one of several chances to enter. Just say 'hi' or tell me what scares you? Zombies? Serial killers? Serial killers who turn into zombies? Oh. That sounds like a story idea!:)

A Little Halloween Hysteria

The ever awesome (but a little sick and twisted) Lillie from the Writeminded readers group created this amazing video.Yes, that's me, Maya Banks, Larissa Ione, Stephanie Tyler and Amy Knupp. (Be patient and give it a few minutes to load up. Trust me–it's worth the wait.)

I laughed so hard I might have broken something.

Thrills and Chills Giveaway – Shiloh Walker Guest Blog

"Hell, like you said, I'm a cop. There's something weird going on then, you're damn straight, I'm going to nose around and at this point, I'm curious enough that I'm going to nose around whether you want me to or not."

Lena rubbed her hands together. Her head cocked, her gleaming red hair sweeping down to brush against her shoulders. "I'm curious, myself. Just why are you so curious, Ezra King? Why in the hell do you care if I heard screams or not? This is a little out of your…what's the word…jurisdiction. And you're on leave."

"Doesn't matter if I'm on leave or not." Ezra sighed and rolled his shoulders. It didn't matter. Just like it didn't matter if this was out of his jurisdiction. He saw a puzzle and he was going to get to the root of it. That was just how he worked. "I'm a cop. It's just how I am, Lena. Besides…"

He snapped his mouth shut before he could finish that thought. He wasn't quite sure he wanted to go there just yet.

"Besides what?"

She lifted a brow.

Blood rushed up, staining his cheeks red. Shit. Hunching his shoulders, he turned away, even though it didn't do a damn bit of good. She couldn't see him anyway—didn't keep her from sensing how uncomfortable he was, he had a feeling. And Reilly, damn it, he'd already seen it, and would probably have a laugh or two about it later.

"Besides, what?" Lena persisted.

"This is a small town," he said, hedging. He could talk his way around it. He didn't need to get into discussing the fact that he'd already gone and developed a personal concern for her. Even as a friend, he was allowed to have a personal concern, right?

Of course, he knew his personal concern went deeper than friendship and it didn't matter that they'd only been on one date, that they'd only known each other a few weeks, that they'd already decided to just be friends, right?

She already mattered to him. But he didn't need to get into that.

No, no reason at all to go into that. "You know how small towns are. The minute you mentioned this to anybody, then everybody knew about it."

"And your point is…?"

He turned back, watched her face. From the corner of his eye, he also watched Reilly's face. But he'd already figured it out, Ezra realized.

Lena hadn't, though.

"If somebody was out there, hurting a woman, Lena, then you heard it. That makes you a witness…of sorts. Makes you a liability. And now the whole damn town knows about it. If whoever did it lives here, then he knows about you."

She was naturally pale, the clear ivory complexion of a natural redhead and it didn't seem possible that she could get any paler.

Obviously, he was wrong.

He'd seen corpses with more color than her and for about five seconds, he had to wonder if she was going to pass out. Through the tinted lenses of her glasses, he could just barely make out the shape of her eyes, could see the way her lashes fluttered, then lowered as she closed her eyes. She took a deep, steadying.

"Shit."

"You hadn't thought quite that far ahead," Ezra said.

With a raw, humorless, laugh, Lena said, "You could say that."

Holiday Novella Covers!

It's beginning to look (and feel) a lot like Christmas around here. This morning we had a freeze and temps hit 30 degrees here in Oklahoma. *shiver*

What better time to unveil my cover for A RARE GIFT, my holiday novella coming from Carina Press on December 5th:

With a disastrous marriage behind him, Wyatt Kent has no interest in getting involved with any woman, let alone his ex-wife's younger sister. But when Calliope Andrews hires him to build an addition onto her daycare center, Wyatt can't help but notice she's a desirable woman, as warm and funny as his ex was cold and aloof.

Calliope fell hard for Wyatt the first time he walked through the door of her family's home, and can't believe her sister let him get away. He's still the star of all her fantasies, and she's determined to prove to him she's nothing like his manipulative ex. Wyatt may be all business, but Calliope sees the way he looks at her when he's supposed to be working…

It's not long before Wyatt and Calliope are keeping each other warm on cold December nights. But it's going to take a Christmas miracle for Wyatt to put his trust in love a second time.

A RARE GIFT is Book 2 in my Kent Brothers series. Book 1 is ALL SHE WANTS FOR CHRISTMAS and released last year. If you haven't read Ethan's story yet, you'd better get caught up before Wyatt's book is released, right? ;-)

A RARE GIFT will also be made available as part of a holiday collection. HOLIDAY KISSES will include stories from the ever awesome authors Shannon Stacey, HelenKay Dimon and Alison Kent. I've read their novellas and they are all amazing. I highly recommend this collection. And look at this cover!

I'm hoping to have preorder links available very soon! In the meantime, we can all gaze longingly at these awesome covers. :-)

The Heart of a Killer Releases!

Today's the release day for The Heart of a Killer! The print version releases today. The book releases digitally on November 1st. I'm sorry for the delay on the digital version, but I'll be sure to give you all a heads up when the ebook is available!

No one said coming home would be easy. But for Dante Renaldi, it's murder.

Before the Special Forces hero has even unpacked his bags from twelve years of active duty, he's embroiled in murder—corpses bearing the brutal trademark he's seen only once before—on the worst night of his life.

The last time Detective Anna Pallino saw Dante Renaldi, they were in love. Now, he's part of the connection to a string of fresh homicides and a horrible assault Anna only survived thanks to him.

More than anything, Anna wants to trust Dante. But as the bodies and the coincidences stack up, Anna will have to decide, and fast: Is the man she owes her life to the very same one who wants her dead?

Order links are here. Excerpt is here.

I hope you enjoy the book! And if you see it out in the wild at the bookstores, be sure to let me know. Or snap a pic. I always like to see my book on the bookshelf. ;-)
