WTF??! And my NEW Obsession
INSANE.
Of course, my entire summer has just been that.
A 10,000 km round trip road trip, weddings, revisions, edits, fresh writing and WHOA ...yeah the summer has escaped me.
I also discovered a new obsession over the summer.
Downton Abbey.
I curse my best friend for having Apple TV and hooking me when I visited her.
Now as I wait for Season 3 to unfold I've been haunting Fan Fiction and too scared to write my own. LOL!
I think I like Downton Abbey because it reminds me of my 2011 release BENTLEY GAL which is set in England in the 1920's with remnants of the Great War haunting the characters still.
So here's one of my favourite excerpts:
The lanterns lit the garden and strains of music drifted from the marquee while couples danced in the moonlight. The air was thick, the heat cloying as George walked along the edge of the makeshift dance floor. He watched as men continuously blotted their faces with monogrammed hankies. George ignored the batting of eyelashes and twitters behind flapping fans as he passed a group of eligible ladies.
Instead, he remained totally focused on Davina Wentworth, who seemed to be avoiding him.
When he first laid eyes on her, George had been overcome with an overwhelming sense of having seen her before. He felt he knew her. Those emerald eyes were so familiar, as if they had studied him already.
Of course, it was ridiculous. He had never met Davina before in his life. But Heatherton had one thing right, she was a beautiful woman—tall, thin and graceful, with ruby-red lips and bobbed, golden-blonde hair rippling in perfect waves.
One of the most delightful creatures he had ever laid eyes on. He sipped his glass of champagne, watching while she danced with her fiancé, Sinjun. They looked good together, but there was an air of awkwardness between them. Though George seriously doubted Sinjun was aware of it. She looked bored, almost anxious—whereas Sinjun was obviously enraptured.
He made a living reading people and from his short time observing Davina, he knew she didn’t love her fiancé—at least not in a romantic sense.
Why was she marrying him?
Of course, it was foolish question to ponder. The answer was obvious.
Money.
Yet her sister Dorothea had married for love, eloping with Bertie Brooks before he went to fight in France. It had, apparently, caused quite a scandal.
“Such a shame, such a waste.”
George cringed inwardly when Rufus appeared at his side. “Heatherton.”
“What I wouldn’t give to be in Sinjun’s shoes right now. Only I wouldn’t be patient with the ice queen.”
George nodded curtly to Heatherton and walked away. The dance ended and Sinjun led Davina off the dance floor.
Her eyes flew open in surprise when he stopped in front of them, bowing. “Sinjun, I was hoping to have a dance with your enchanting fiancée, if you don’t mind?”
Sinjun beamed. “Of course not. Darling?”
Davina’s painted red lips opened, and it seemed as if she was trying to think of an excuse to get out of it, but couldn’t.
“Yes…of course.”
Sinjun nodded. George took Davina’s hand, leading her onto the dance floor. Her hand shook slightly when he spun around, pulling her tight against him. Her wrist rested lightly on his shoulder. He trailed his hand down her back. Under his fingertips, small goose bumps rose on the surface of her bare flesh. Her skin was soft. His blood heated, knowing he was having some kind of effect on her, just as much as she was having on him.
“Where are you summering, Mr. Dyson?”
“Just George, Miss Wentworth.”
A blush tinged her cheek. “I really don’t know you well enough to address you with such familiarity.”
He chuckled. “Oh, pshaw, everyone is informal around here. What do they call you bright, young people…bohemians?”
“I can assure you, I am not a bohemian.”
“Just call me George.”
“Very well, and I suppose since Sinjun is so fond of you, then you can address me as Davina.”
“Oh, I aim to, darling.”
“Davina, I’ll accept. Darling, I won’t.”
Good, she has some spunk after all.

Have you seen Downton Abbey? Are you a fan? If so whose your favourite couple? Mine is Edith & Anthony Strallan, but then I've always been partial to underdogs and emotional "retards" as the actor portraying him put it.

Summer Reading Trail

Here's Chapter One of a book I'm planning on self-publishing later this summer, involving superheroes titled POISONED TOUCH. I hope you enjoy!
Chapter One
Arachnia watched Jade Man battle her nameless minions, which she’d sent out to stop him. Well, perhaps not stop him necessarily. Frankly, she was becoming bored of this existence and couldn’t figure out why Jade Man was here. She had been quiet for months. Still, as she watched him from behind her mask, her blood heated, her body quivering with desire, lust and the unquenchable need to be possessed. To be fucked. All Arachnia wanted to do was to reach out and touch him.But she couldn’t.She let out a heavy sigh, fidgeting on her perch. I’m so tired of being alone. It was her curse, her lot in life. It was why she took on the name she did, why she hid behind a shadow of black. Midnight latex covered her from head to toe, keeping her skin from coming into contact with others—for like a black widow’s bite, her touch would kill. She had slaughtered many a Super before with just a simple press of her lips or brush of flesh against flesh, but the first time she’d laid eyes on Jade Man, her lonely, fatal existence became all the more bitter. At night she’d fantasize about him. Naked. Aroused. All vestiges of their façade peeled away so nothing was between them except his ebony skin pressed against her pale white body. She longed for human touch, for warm flesh. Any time she came close to another person she only experienced the briefest sensation of warmth, before she siphoned the heat and life from them.Arachnia shook her head, dispelling the screams of those who’d died from her touch, as the last of her henchman crumpled against the floor, right at the toe of her stiletto heel. Remembering Jade Man’s presence, she kicked the lackey to the side, sending his unconscious body tumbling down the steps, which led to her chamber in her hideout. Jade Man had no right to be here. She’d been compliant lately—quiet, even. It was the first time in a long time she’d not been up to her usual exploits. She was trying to disappear into anonymity. So the question remained…why was he here?“Jade, this is not a pleasant surprise. Why are you disturbing me?”Jade Man’s eyes narrowed the green mask obscuring his face. “Arachnia, you know why I’ve come.”“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She sauntered down the steps toward her arch nemesis, all the while fighting the urge to reach out and press his muscle-honed body against hers.An image of him pistoning in and out of her made her heart skip a beat, her stomach stir with butterflies and her panties wet.Focus.Jade Man’s emerald eyes, hidden under his mask, tracked her movements as she circled him in a wide birth, the clicks of her heels against the cold cement of her surroundings keeping in time with the erratic beat of her pulse. She never wanted him more than in this moment.“Come now. Don’t play coy. Only you would stoop so low as to send out a virus which is infecting Supers. Only you have the power to suck the very life out of another human.”Virus? A tingle of dread traveled down her spine. A virus like her affliction? It was too horrible to contemplate. She may be a heartless Villain, but to eradicate Supers with a virus that mimicked her poisoned touch was just not sportsmanlike. Besides, she never intentionally tried to kill the Supers; they were what kept her going. She enjoyed making them jump through hoops and watching them try to foil her evil schemes. Only when she had to did she remove her gloves and touch someone. She cleared her throat and then smiled. “I confess, though it sounds like a brilliant idea, I’m not the instigator of the crime.”He snorted. “I find that hard to believe, Arachnia. Or, should I say, Miss Winters.”“So, you finally figured out who I really am. I’m impressed.”“It was easy to deduce.” He crossed his arms. “You are a brilliant biochemist, although the world thinks you’re dead from a freak accident, but I knew better. Only Kelli Winters had the know-how to create a virulent plague to wipe out the Supers. But your plan failed. Not only are you killing the Supers, you’re killing off your own allies.”Arachnia froze. A plague? She may have been a biochemist, but she would’ve never created a plague. Not then and not now. “What are you talking about?”“Why don’t you admit it?”“Admit what? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”“You…” Jade Man’s knees trembled and he put his hand against the wall to steady himself. Arachnia watched in disbelief as he began to shake, and it was then she noticed sweat seeping through his light green disguise. The man looked absolutely feverish. In all her years in bio chem she’d never seen a fever take hold like what was currently inflicting her arch nemesis. Jade Man began to convulse, his mouth frothing as his legs gave out.“Jade Man!” Arachnia threw caution aside and ran to his side catching him as he collapsed. Carefully as to not brush any of her exposed skin against him, she laid him gently against the cement floor as he writhed in delirium tremens. She heard thrashing behind her. Glancing over her shoulder, the pit of her stomach dropped as she watched her fallen henchmen having violent fits around her. So this virus obviously had a more devastating effect on a normal human and it worked fast. Quicker than she’d ever seen. What’s going on? Why am I not sick? She had to find out what was going on, and fast. She wasn’t going to be held responsible for a deadly superbug when she had no hand in creating it.She would never create a virus such as this. In fact, the day poor good-natured, naïve Kelli Winters had her accident and turned into a living, breathing venomous creature was the day she gave up biochemistry forever. Besides, it was no virus that made her poisonous. Her accident altered her DNA and her condition was not contagious.Arachnia stood. Just leave him. He was here to kill you for something you didn’t do. Just like the State wanted to execute you for Bruce’s death. Her mouth went dry and her body shook. She’d been tried and convicted for murder, until Dr. Destructor saved her from the electric chair, as the lethal injection had done nothing to her.Society had turned on her then and now blamed her for this virus. Why should she help this Super?Help him, the other part of her screamed, the part of her conscience she’d buried for so long. Help him, Kelli. She shook her head. “I’m sorry, Jade Man.” She turned to walk away, to do as her mentor Dr. Destructor had taught, but she couldn’t leave him. Her conscience was winning out. Glancing back over her shoulder, she saw him lying there, unconscious, drenched in sweat.“Damn,” she cursed. She ran back to his side and helped him stand. “It goes against the Villain’s Code, but I can’t let you die this way.” Arachnia bent down and picked him up. Jade Man mumbled some incoherently, his body vibrating against hers—and not in the way she wanted. Arachnia thought she heard a mumbled thanks as she led him down the hall to her small, abandoned laboratory. The door to her lab slid open with ease. The fluorescent lights lit up the room with their gentle click and hum. She guided Jade Man to the gurney off to the side of the room. Delirious, he protested.“None of that,” she chastised, forcing him to lie down. It was the easiest battle she had ever fought against the man.Arachnia slipped on a white lab coat and peeled off her black gloves. Her pitch-colored nails always made her stomach turn, the testament to what flowed through her veins.Poison.She found a pair of surgical gloves and slipped them on. One of her minions did the lab work and tended to the wounded, so the laboratory was always stocked. Her stomach twisted at the thought of her men in the antechamber. They were likely all dead by now.It was for the best. Better to be dead than end up like her.A freak. And that posed an interesting question. Why Jade Man still alive?Opening a drawer, she found a syringe. She would draw his blood and analyze it. Perhaps she could identify some of the markers of the virus. What did she have to lose? The virus wasn’t affecting her…yet. She could still succumb. She’d been exposed to it.Arachnia rolled her shoulders and grabbed a pair of surgical scissors; in the other hand she held the syringe. With measured steps she approached Jade Man. He was conscious again, his emerald eyes boring into her as if to ask why? When he saw the glint of metal from the scissors he flinched. She kneeled beside him.“If I wanted you to die, I would’ve left you in the antechamber. I just need a sample of your blood.”“What does it matter?” he whispered, his voice cracking. “You’re the one responsible. You know how the virus works. You created it.”“No.” She shook her head. “I’m not the creator.”He snorted. “I find that hard to believe.”“I’m not. But I’m going to find out what is causing this virus. May I take a bit of your blood?”His eyes flew open in surprise, as if he was stunned she’d asked him. Well, she may be a Villain but she had manners. Arachnia waited with bated breath. Weakly Jade Man nodded, acquiescing to her request. Deftly she cut away his Super disguise to bare his ebony flesh. Her heart skipped a beat and she swore she could almost see, almost feel his blood moving through the veins of his muscular arm.Was she really this desperate for the caress of a man’s flesh?Yes. She was. It had been far too long. She wiped his skin with alcohol swab and then fashioned a tourniquet around his upper arm. With a few quick taps on his arm she found his vein and gently pushed the syringe in.The moment the blood began to fill the vial, Arachnia’s heart stuttered and the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.His blood was not red. His blood was black. As black as hers.

A bit of a ramble
Actually, the distance we're travelling there in back is long enough to travel across the entire continent of North America. Crazy.
Good thing we got a new van in April. We weren't planning too. Our old 2005 had minimal amount of miles on it, but the engine went. It was either spend $3500 on a new engine with no guarantees or get a new van. The dealership gave us $4000 for our old mini van with the engine being pooched and we got our very first new vehicle.
Though, I do miss my old van because we bought it when I was pregnant with James, so we only had the van for 3 years.
That's another thing which is boggling my mind a bit. James will be three at the end of June. Three. My last baby. *sigh* Where does the time go.
Sorry for rambling on. It's all the midnight oil I burned last night. My brain is still a bit mushy.
So, I'll leave you all today with a picture of one of the things I'm looking forward/hoping to see on my journey out west (and in Alberta we'll be considerably further north):

Whoa
I've been prepping for our CROSS COUNTRY TRIP which is only 17 days away. WOOT!
But, I've decided in my absence in July that I would offer Chapter One of a book I'm self publishing in September 2012, titled Poisoned Touch.
It's part of the Summer Reading Trail, which offers free reads. My free read will go live June 30th in the evening and be available all of July. In August it will disappear.
As for other things, I've been deep in my writing/editing cave working on another bear book in the Mounted Release world! :)
I'll be back before I leave for my trip.
I'll try not to be so quiet and during my trip I plan on sharing some pictures of my trek. We're driving through Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario around Lake Superior. I have seen NONE of these places, except for just over the border of Michigan (where I shop! LOL).

Mounted Release

In fact you can see the fruits of my efforts by staying in the writing cave.
Mounted Release came out from Ellora's Cave yesterday! WOOT!
This is my hot Mountie bear shifter! :)
Here's the blurb:
Gordon Thomas isn't just an ordinary constable of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, he's also a bit of a bear—literally. He's been on his own for so long he's shocked when he discovers another Mukswa in his territory, and a female at that. The woman brings out the true beast in him, one which he's been controlling for far too long.
Sheridan Stevens is on the run. When she crashes on an isolated road, her savior is the only male of her kind within one hundred kilometres. He's kind, gorgeous and stirs her desire to a burning crescendo.
A snowstorm causes them to seek shelter. As the mercury drops outside, the temperature inside is rising. Neither Gordon nor Sheridan can contain the primal lust singing in their blood. But even as their passion burns brighter than the northern lights, Sheridan's predator stalks them…ready to make his kill.
I had lots of fun writing this book. I promise my next sojourn in the cave won't be as long, but I do have some exciting things in the work. Happy Saturday! :)

Release Day & Gorillas!

Bentley Gal is out today! WOOT!
I'm really excited it's here. If you like the roaring 20's, car racing and some romance then you'll want to read Bentley Gal. I had a blast writing it.
To celebrate it's release I'm blogging over at Shiloh Walker's today about the story behind the story, which is gorillas.
I'm giving away a ebook copy of Bentley Gal & a little stuffed gorilla! :) He's so cute. So comment over at Shiloh's for a chance to win!
As for the writing 2k a day, I've been doing it. I did fall of the wagon the other night when my bronchitis returned, but so far today I've written 1k. Last Friday I also managed to finish off a WIP. I'll be editing that Sunday before sending to my critique partner for her to tear it apart. >:)
My bronchitis relapse is clearing up so I'm slowing getting back into my exercise routine again. I couldn't finish all of Power 90 Sweat Phase 1 today ...there was 6 minutes left and I started to have problems breathing and felt faint so I stopped, but its baby steps to get back into my routine after months of bronchitis. Blech.
Have a great day everyone!

Resolutions
I admit I have been on that band wagon, but since I feel self conscious about working out in public in August I started doing Power 90. It was going great until I was hit with a month of bronchitis, but I've slowly started getting back into my routine and thankfully my month away from exercising only cost me the gain of a pound.
With health resolutions under way, it was time I made a resolution to do something a bit more with my writing. I've had a bit of a burnout this year. Things set me back.
Now, I couldn't care less about those things which set me back and I've under taken to write 2k a day.
Here's my score so far:
January 1: 3,ooo
January 2: 3,761
January 3: (Currently working on it and will update later)
Of course it helps to have friends who I have given these resolutions to and who are keeping me on track. I have so much to write, it was getting overwhelming, but now writing a minimum of 2k a day is getting me through the WIPs on a more manageable pace.
We'll see how this momentum keeps up. I know for a fact it will be extremely difficult during the summer because we're going on a cross country trek out West. I am extremely excited, but it'll mean long days on the road and possibly a hand cramp as I write long hand.
Have you made any resolutions?

2011 In Review
I joined two group blogs, Beyond the Veil and Silken Sheets & Seduction.
I had several book releases, including one under my other name A.C. Ruttan which was not a romance at all. Incarnate was a book I had long been looking forward to.
I was able to attend Romanticon 2011 in Akron, Ohio and meet many of the fabulous people at Ellora's Cave, who were my first publisher. Met so many fabulous readers and writers and of course I met the wonderful, charming and handsome Cavemen.
Last year also brought loss. I lost a very dear friend. He was my bf's hubby, he was the godfather to my youngest. He was family. He tragically died after a routine surgery and the summer was shadowed with sorrow. It still hurts 6 months later. However, a piece of him lives on in his beautiful two-year-old boy and his newborn son who was just born a couple of weeks ago.
My husband also lost his grandmother. She died on her 95th birthday. Peacefully and that's all we can ask for.
I'm hoping 2012 is a lot better, in that respect. It's already shaping up well.
My first releas

I also sold a bear-shifter story to Ellora's Cave. He's a Mountie! :) So sometime next year Mounted Release will be coming out.
I have other things in the works I can't really divulge yet, but I'm excited about.
The new year also brings about a trip I've been dying to take for some time. We're driving across country for my sister-in-law's wedding. I'm really looking forward to that. It's also my tenth wedding anniversary, which is hard for me to believe. I still feel like a newlywed some days.
I think 2012 will be a great year. I wish you and yours a safe and Happy New Year.
December 24, 2011
Happy Holidays
See you in 2012.
Lots of love,
Amy
December 16, 2011
Whoa
December is slipping by faster than I care to admit. Heck, where did this entire year go?
I showed a little teaser a couple months ago about a bear shifter, well I'm pleased to announce that book was accepted by my editor at Ellora's Cave. Look for MOUNTED RELEASE in the new year sometime.
Speaking of 2012. My first release of 2012 is January 12, 2012 from Ellora's Cave. It's a Blush book, so spicy romance titled Bentley Gal, which is set in the roaring twenties and deals with a woman race car driver.

I'm very pleased it's releasing.
I also have some other exciting things in the works which I hope to be able to share with you soon.
