Cranky pants

This morning I had to go grocery shopping for Thanksgiving since today is my last day at home before leaving for Philadelphia. So, I have an ENORMOUS cart. And I'm tired. So tired. Because certain furry creatures woke me up at 4:23am and I never really went back to sleep.

As I'm heading toward the checkout lane with my HUGE cart, I stop and get some Equal Exchange coffee. Just a small cup. And then I realize that was dumb, because it's really hard to push an OVERSTUFFED cart and hold a cup of...

Thank you, Universe

Yesterday was a really great day and I just feel like I need to say thanks. So...

THANKS.

This morning, while waiting for other work to come in, I'm digging in to PEARL revisions.

It's been over a year since I worked on this, so I have a lot of reacquainting to do. But I have to say, I sincerely love this part. :-)

[info:] jonowrino ers: Only 13 days left. Eep! Good luck, everyone!!

As Slatts says...

I'm workin' on it. Or something like that.

I'm so sorry to be absent from everything lately, especially [info:] jonowrimo . And thanks so much to all the members who've taken up the cause and pompoms and helped to cheer people on. I really appreciate it.

I'm just swamped right now. With teaching, overlapping freelance work, preparing for NCTE/ALAN, and now I've received edits for PEARL (which are really great and REALLY challenging). It's all good. Just... time-consuming.

I'm sorry if I owe you e-mail or...

Interview with Debbi :-)

Our kind and generous interviewed me about JUMPING OFF SWINGS and has posted our talk on her website here: http://www.debbimichikoflorence.com/author_interviews/2009/JoKnowles.html

Debbi always asks the best questions. :-)

THANKS DEBBI!!!!

Today I'm leaving for my class. We only have three left! I'm so sad. This semester just flew by. And yet, it's been such a treat to see the students stretch their wings, challenge themselves, and soar. I think running a writing workshop or class has to be...

The magic of Harry, Sue and Pete

This weekend my husband had a conference to go to in Boston, so E and I decided to tag along for the free hotel and the promise of fun in the city. Our good friends Sue and Pete invited us to spend a night with them in Cambridge, too, so there was a lot to look forward to.

On Friday, E and I dropped Peter at his conference and headed to the Museum of Science, which is one of E's favorite spots. What he didn't know, was that there was a special exhibit there. An exhibit he didn't even know exis...

five good things on a friday

1. Today I am taking the boy to the Museum of Science in Boston. He knows this. What he doesn't know is that there is a Harry Potter special exhibit and we have tickets!! I can't wait to see the look on his face! :-)

2. I finished my draft of my work-in-progress yesterday!!!! FINALLY. Now to print it out and start back at the beginning for another pass before I share it with my writing buds. I'm getting closer... SOOO hoping I meet my [info:] jonowrimo goal.

3. I saw an old friend yesterday and it was ...

Kate's wonderful book

What can I say about [info:] katemessner 's beautiful book, The Brilliant Fall of Gianna Z?

Shop Indie Bookstores

Besides I love it, I mean.

Oh Kate, I love Gianna so much. The writing is sweet and true. The story is heartbreaking and hopeful, with lovely bits of humor to lighten the hard moments. This is the kind of book I read and think: I wish I'd had friends like Gianna and Zig when I was a kid. And a grandmother like Nonna. I love how realistically flawed the family is, yet bound together by love in...

Costume fail? & Reason number 2,092 not to read GoodReads

I don't know what it is about the costumes we dream up, but for some reason, there's always someone who gets it completely wrong.

When E went as Yoda, I made him green ears. He had a wonderful Yoda cloak. His face was green. He carried a wooden staff. As we were walking through town trick-or-treating, a man walked up to him and said, "Hey! Nice pirate!"

I admit, last year's Percy Jackson outfit was a bit tricky, since not many adults know the books. We should have waited on that 'til after the...

Zombie

Here is E's zombie suit. He's going as a business man who got run over by a motorcycle.

We just finished carving our pumpkin. Fred went nuts over the pumpkin guts. Do any of you have cats who do this?? He is so strange.

Happy Halloween, everyone!
