Last Days to Enter
Just a few days left to enter the contest to possibly be one of two winners of
Loving the Boss
. I'll post the winners either on September 25 or 26. I will be on my second mini-vacation until sometime on September 25, so the winners may not be posted until the following day.
In other news, I wrote a related story to Loving the Boss called Loving the Assistant . This story involves Alan's best friend. Alan is the main character from Loving the Boss . I've been offered a contract for Loving the Assistant , which I have accepted, but I have no further details at this time as I've not yet seen the contract. Once I have a release date and all that good stuff I'll have the site updated.
So go ahead and leave a comment here if you are interested in winning Loving the Boss and you haven't already entered.

Loving the Boss Contest
At the end of September my short story,
Loving the Boss
, will be released by Evernight Publishing for their Romance on the Go line. This line is devoted to short stories and therefore I decided to write
Loving the Boss
specifically for it. I am currently working on another story related to
Loving the Boss
(about a secondary character) I hope to submit there in the not too distant future. You can view the cover there on the sidebar and here is the blurb for it:
Every morning, Alan Sommers arrives early to work. He makes coffee, tidies the office and makes sure the blinds are open to let in the California sun. All of it he does for Kincaid Malloy, his boss of the last three years. His handsome, intelligent and completely professional boss. And therefore, there's no hope his love for Kincaid will ever be returned. When Kincaid asks him to pet sit at his home while he's away at a law conference, Alan readily agrees. What he doesn't expect is that his dreams of loving the boss might finally come true.
This is a happy, angst free little story of about 8,000 words. One you can probably easily read in a night just before bed.
So, anyway, I'm holding a contest. You can win a copy of Loving the Boss if you leave a comment here on the blog. I will announce two winners on or about the release date of September 25, 2012.
You are also welcome to email me if you would prefer not to leave a public comment. authorshawnlane@gmail.com

The Writing Vacation
So I’m on a writing vacation as I stated in a previous post. I am shortly going on a real vacation and another mini one in late September so the writing vacation extends to October 01.
How goes the writing hiatus? Well, to be honest I wrote a short story after my hiatus began. It’s called Loving the Boss and I sold it to Evernight Publishing for their Romance on the Go line. No the “Boss” isn’t Bruce Springsteen. It didn’t take up too much of my time to write and I had the idea and didn’t want to forget it. I have plans when the hiatus ends to write a story about a secondary character from Loving the Boss, too.
But now, I am officially writing free. I’ve been reading other people’s books. It’s funny how when you are a reader only you can completely enjoy a favorite author’s books without a critical eye. But when you are also a published writer yourself little things annoy you. Like one of my favorites in Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle. They are comfort reads for me. I always know I will be entertained by them. But there’s something she does in every book that now annoys me. “He thought” and “she thought” constantly pepper her books even though they are totally unnecessary in every context she uses them. I’m fairly certain as famous as she is she has complete control over her books and how much editing is done but that should be cut because it is really becoming distracting.
Besides reading, I have also been playing silly time management games on my computer. Silly thinks like how fast can you serve burgers before people get mad, that sort of thing. They amuse me. And very old Sega Genesis Role Playing games which I was able to buy as downloads from Amazon for like $2. Total nostalgia. And of course watching TV in the background while doing all this.
Anyway, I think my contest for One More Time has a few more days at Stumbling Over Chaos and now there is a contest up for Maybe This Time, here . No I really am not obsessed with having “time” in my titles. I don’t really know how that happened, it just did. Heaven knows it’s hard enough coming up with titles for books.

New Release: Getting Wade, Lover Unexpected: Man Love Edition
Today I am pleased to announce the release of my first published story with Evernight Publishing, Getting Wade, which is part of the Lover Unexpected: Man Love Edition Anthology. I'm excited by this release because I really liked this little short story I decided to write specifically for Evernight Publishing for their Anthology call.
Here's a little blurb for my story:
Wade Conner and Neal Lowen have been best friends most of their lives. Though both are gay they've never let themselves become anything other than best friends. But after a disastrous love affair leaves Neal broken-hearted, Wade comes to his rescue and offers him a place to stay. Maybe this is the push Neal finally needs to finally find mister right, the best friend he's always loved.
I hope you will give the anthology a try and will like the stories you read.
