lipstick apology by jennifer jabaley
About Lipstick Apology
Four little words written in lipstick mean
Emily must say goodbye to everything she knows.
Emily Carson has always been a good girl. So
when she throws a party the night her parents
leave for vacation, she's sure she'll get busted.
What Emily doesn't know is that her parents will
never return. That their plane will go down. And
the only thing left amidst the wreckage will be a
tray table with the words: Emily please forgive
me scrawled in lipstick – her mother's last words.

long weekend
did you have a good long weekend?
mine was a mix of work and pleasure.
i met with two of my wonderful critique
group writing friends on saturday and they
were nothing but encouraging with my sequel,
as we discussed the issues i'm addressing in
this rewrite. i wrote for three hours.
on sunday, my friend vicky came down to
film some footage for her website. we had
a fun time by the ocean. it was low tide in
the late afternoon, revealing all the interesting
channels and rock formations worn down by

silver phoenix reviewed in fantasy & science fiction magazine
it came as a surprise and real honor when the editor
from fantasy & science fiction magazine emailed
to inform me that silver phoenix was reviewed in
the current issue by michelle west, with mild spoilers.
Cindy Pon's Silver Phoenix is also a first novel, and it has
pretty much nothing in common with Larsen's debut. In
structure, it's a much more traditional fantasy novel, but
its setting is not a generic Europe; instead, it's Asian. Pon's
writing is graceful, clean, and assured; she opens with...

THE BRILLIANT FALL OF GIANNA Z!
About The Brilliant Fall of Gianna Z
Gianna Zales has a lot on her plate this fall –

hearse, a mother who's turned into the junk
food police, a little brother who thinks he's a
member of the paparazzi, and a grandmother
who leaves false...
36.
what a busy, full and wonderful birthday
i had yesterday! i started with a three hour
critique group meeting with my writing friends.
brainstormed with them about possible revisions
to the sequel.
in the evening, tried market in del mar for the
first time. very impressed by their food! the love
and i both did the four course tasting menu. their
portions are huge! they list all the dishes offered
on the menu with a trio of ingredients (which i won't
remember here).
most amusing thing was that...

what if you had to choose?
i'm only a lot obsessed with can you read my mind?
by the killers today. i don't know how many times
i've listened to the song on youtube. so indulge me
as i play this what if game, will you?
it's a question i've asked myself and others before,
and i'm not sure if i know the answer, years later.
let's start with the lyrics to the song. i've italicized
my favorite lines. they twist me up inside.
On the corner of main street
Just tryin' to keep it in line.
You say you wanna move on and
You say I'm f...

cindy's wild ride
*a la mr.toad's wild ride at disneyland.
what a weekend! i'm glad i'm here
to tell you about it! a playgroup mom friend
was very kind to host a book club meeting at
her house for Silver Phoenix on friday night.
composed of two book clubs and two playgroups,
we had a group of women who mostly did not read
young adult or fantasy–and all seemed to enjoy
the book and were eager to discuss it.
i had so much fun and didn't get home until after
11pm.
on sunday, i had a signing at bn in huntington

29 again.
*speaking of vanity cam shots! my hair looks
esp curly here!
actually 36 years old on the 29th this month.
the love and i are going to see a play (we haven't
in *years*) and try out a new fancy restaurant to
celebrate my ox year! =D
my mom has come and gone (she can endure about
36 hours of the rabid monkey bublets–and i don't
blame her) but the minute she arrived, she showed
me my early birthday gift. a diamond gourd-shaped
pedant (for good fortune, of course!) on a white gold
chain. she had just r...
