A few pages from my first college notebook. It held all subjects across all six semesters of my first undergrad experience, taking about 50 pages total. Every page is written two lines per ruled line, with the rest encrusted in doodles that began simply enough but by the end where these pages happened, had become more craft than art and just crammed in as much mindless shaded detail in as possible. My second undergrad and graduate notebooks also fill one book each, but at one line per line and the doodles are a bit less intricate than the ones here from when my eyes were better.

Did I do something wrong?
Your first mistake was joining Tumblr
I mean I might feel bad if Valhalla hadn’t found like 99.9% of its fans here.

Not that level anymore. My current grad school notes look more normal. Still a bit on the crowded side though-

I have not done clown school, have no musical talent, and am not an alien…
…Or am I?

Vibeke: What do you think Veikko and Violet will do for a distraction?
Varg: Who knows? They’ll probably, like, you know, make a noise or throw a rock. That’s what I’d do.
[a building explodes and alarms go off]
Varg: Or they could do that.

I've recently been reading articles about themes and such, and it made me wonder, what would you say the themes of the Valhalla trilogy are?
I’d say there are bits and pieces of things but the series is written to be pure entertainment, it doesn’t have a theme at its center. What there is: The structure of the world is fragile, and what we have with the people we care for is tough, but malleable. We can lose everything fast, so don’t fuck shit up.

V Team namesakes:Violet from Bound by the Wachowski...

V Team namesakes:
Violet from Bound by the Wachowski sisters
Vibeke Stene, lead singer of Tristania
Tarja Turunen, lead singer of Nightwish
Varg Vikernes, sole member of Burzum
MINOR SPOILERS- These are indeed the people my four main characters are originally named after. Violet, though the name has some other meanings and significances, was primarily named after Violet from the movie Bound. Vibeke was named for my favorite singer. Veikko in his Valkyrie name was just named after the Finnish word for ‘Lad’ but his real surname, Turunen, comes from another metal singer. And then there’s Varg…
Yeah, he’s named for a very, very bad fellow. I never really differentiated between good and evil when naming characters, and in Varg’s case, I went with another metal musician- Who just happened to be a murderous neo-nazi. My use of the name is in absolutely no way an endorsement of the guy or his views. If anything it’s an extra ‘fuck you’ to real fellow in that my Varg is, socially speaking, his absolute opposite. But Vikernes is also a significant musician, and has a name starting with V, so there you have it.
Maybe half of the characters in the novels are also named for metal musicians.
EDIT: Only 47 of the 177 named characters in the series are named for metal musicians.
