Hijacking, planned and premeditated murder and South African tourism

Zapiro bases his cartoon on the weird story behind the murder of Anni Dewani. Initially thought to be a typical hijacking resulting in a death, it turns out to be a cleverly planned act by the husband to get rid off his newly wedded wife. One of the participants, the taxi driver, admits in a plea bargain that he was offered R15000 "to remove someone off the scene." How will this murder affect South African Tourism?

Russia (2018) and Qatar (2022) announced as hosts for FIFA. Those who had nothing to lose said that it is a triumph of emerging economies over the developed ones. Others argue that it is corruption and petrodollars, which are stronger than traditional footballing values. Zapiro cartoon like many others questions the FIFA selection process as being corrupt and/or democratic.

101205stst 10 12 05 5 Dec 2010 Sunday Times Dangrous to whom? - Is Julian Assange more than a Geek with computer?

To mavericks and supporters, WikiLeaks carries a thrilling buzz of danger, challenging governments with overpowering evidence of illegal activity, cover-ups and confidential opinions of one politician on another. To the leaders and politicians in the developed world and also to some in the developing world, Julian Assange founder of Wikileaks is considered a nuisance at the least but to others a threat to world peace resulting in a proposed contract on his head. Who is Julian Assange? A geek with a computer as Zapiro's cartoon suggests. Is he dangerous? Is he in danger himself? Julian Assange is presently in hiding somewhere in the United Kingdom as he feels that his life and freedom is at risk fearing assassination plots. Interpol via Swedish police has a warrant out for his arrest on sex-crimes charges.

'Assisted suicide' has always been the defence of convicted drug dealer Glenn Agliotti in the murder of Brett Kebble. Zapiro's cartoon suggest that the botched up case by the NPA means assisted suicide of Lady Justice.

01202tt 10 12 02 2 Dec 2010 The Times Aids - Gap between knowledge and behaviour

Zapiro's cartoon for World Aids Day - A gap still exists between what people know about aids and people's sexual behaviour. Despite the knowledge that unprotected sex or multiple partners can lead to HIV/Aids, too many people are still doing it. More still needs to be done to educate people - the gap needs to be closed especially in SA.
