Prepping to do my no-DVR, fingers-blazing recap, I'm so excited to actually watch the show on the day it airs instead of the next Monday when it comes online. Honestly, you East coast viewers. I can't go on Twitter Thursday night without seeing tweet after tweet of OMG VAMPIRE DIARIES. So at least this time I don't have to wait the whole weekend to see what you all are OMGing about...

Reviews of The Girl Who Was on Fire from Hunger Games fans
If you hunger for the Hunger Games trilogy, fear not. Smart Pop Books also had the yearning for more of Suzanne Collins' creative and dangerous world after Mockingjay and created a new anthology to delve deeper into the Hunger Games.

Looking for Fringe fans
When I was a kid, there wasn't much that bugged me more than picking up a book and discovering that, though the character image on the front had green eyes, the book clearly described the character's eyes as brown. (You may remember me complaining about this before.) It was like the publisher wasn't even paying attention—like they thought we wouldn't notice.
Which is to say: Details matter. Because I did notice. And—I think I'm not alone in this—the more passionate I am about something, the...

For another Dexter fix, read about the work-family balance of Dexter's characters with The Psychology of Dexter contributing writer Morrie Mullins.

In my essay for the collection, "The Scientist and the Serial Killer: A Study in Work-Life Balance," I examined three perspectives on work-family balance as reflected in seasons one-four of Dexter. Season four, as most of us know by now, culminated in the death of Rita, Dexter's wife, at the hands of Arthur Mitchell/Trinity. Season five picks...

The Girl Who Was on Fire: Our Hunger Games anthology
Last season, we did an official introduction post for our Fall 2010 books. This season, over the next few weeks, we're trying something new: officially announcing our Spring 2011 titles individually, each in their own post. This is the first one, but if you miss any later, you can check them all out here.

In some ways, editing an anthology is a lot like throwing a party: you send out a lot of invitations and hope a lot of smart, funny people show up and talk about interesting things. And s...

The Death of Independent Dexter
As Dexter lover's avidly await season six, let's wish a happy belated 40th birthday to Dexter's Michael C. Hall and dive into the possible death of an independent Dexter with The Psychology of Dexter contributing writer, Stephen D. Livingston.

My essay "On Becoming a Real Boy" discussed issues of social development and strategic presentation of self. I was excited to see that the latest season of Dexter promised to explore these complex themes, but admittedly a bit disappointed by the...

Guest Post: Jennifer Lynn Barnes is Back To Rave About Caroline
It's been a while since we've enjoyed recaps of our favorite teen vampire show, The Vampire Diaries , but we have a fun one to kick off 2011. Jennifer Barnes, who you may remember from the awesome recap of last season, is back to talk about Caroline, werewolves, and Veronica Mars ?

My reaction to last week's episode of Vampire Diaries, "Crying Wolf," can best be described in three points:
#1: For all that is good and chocolatey in this world, SOMEONE TELL JENNA ABOUT VAMPIRES. I'm looking at y...

Rationalizing Dexter
The season five finale of Dexter is behind us, but (thankfully) we'll continue to share some thoughts from The Psychology of Dexter contributors over the next few weeks.
Today, we have Wind Goodfriend's guest post.

In my chapter of The Psychology of Dexter, written with co-author Chase Barrick, we argued that Dexter is the reigning king of Freudian defense mechanisms. For those readers who haven't read the chapter or who didn't take Psych 101 in college, Freud argued that "defense...

Clap If You Believe … And You'd Better!
We have a special guest post today from Jacob Clifton who, most recently, wrote a piece for our True Blood anthology (you can read it in its entirety this week, so be sure to click on that link!).
His guest post today is about faeries — historically, in other literature and art, and in True Blood, too.

Many of us probably rolled our eyes when Bill Compton finally told Sookie the big secret about her part-fairy lineage, because when we think of fairies we think of Tinkerbell and her buds...
