Friday Night Lights Episode 5.3, Twitter Party Recap

This past Friday was twice the fun in Twitterland because Smart Pop live-tweeted the latest episode of Friday Night Lights not once but twice. Here's what (and who: in particular A Friday Night Lights Companion contributor Paula Rogers, @paulabot, who live-tweeted with us the second hour) you missed if you couldn't join us:

Leah kicked off the episode acutely noticing a clip from the opening sequence …

Love that credits shot of Tami in blue on the bleachers & Coach in red on the field: great s...

Smart Pop Books' Very Own Propos for The Girl Who Was on Fire

One of the rebellion's most important weapons was, well, advertising. Propoganda. Propos. Those videos of Katniss mid-battle in District 8, of the tributes who died in the Hunger Games, of Finnick being interviewed about the Capitol's secrets. They're yet another extension of the way what we see on television, like the Hunger Games themselves, has power.

We're not trying to stage a rebellion, but we've still put together our own take on propos, for The Girl Who Was on Fire. These aren't the...

Guest Post: Trust Eternal in The Vampire Diaries' "Klaus"

Today, we have a guest post on trust in The Vampire Diaries (in general and in light of last week's episode) by Jon Skovron. Enjoy!

***

I understand why the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries is called "Klaus." Much like Katherine in the first season, we've been hearing about this guy for eighteen episodes without getting to actually meet him ourselves. But unlike Katherine, until this episode, we didn't even know what Klaus looked like. We also learn a lot of information about Klaus...

Friday Night Lights Episode 5.2, Twitter Party Recap

Since Jennifer's out of town, celebrating an anniversary Tami Taylor-style—by which I mean, with wine—I've got Friday Night Lights live-tweet recap duties this time around.

This week, we were joined by Jen Chaney, who you may know from her entertainment blogging for The Washington Post, and who wrote a series of pieces on why we love Eric, Tami, Tim Riggins, and the rest for A Friday Night Lights Companion that'll make you fall in love with them all over again. (Also, speaking of recaps: you c...

Friday Night Lights Episode 5.1, Twitter Party Recap

This past Friday, Leah and I took to Twitter to enjoy the first episode of the fifth season of Friday Night Lights with some of our readers and many of the fans of the show. We weren't sure what to expect—we were new to Twitter "parties"—but it was a lot of fun, and we hope you'll join us this Friday (8 p.m. EST) (or the Friday after that, and so on. We'll let you know ahead of time when we'll have somebody watching and tweeting during the Mountain/Pacific time zones, too).

We'd like to recap ...

Guest Post: Alyx Harvey on the Latest Vampire Diaries' episode, "The Last Dance"

If you missed last Thursday's Vampire Diaries' episode, GO WATCH IT NOW! Then read Alyxandra Harvey's interesting take on the hero v. heroine dilemma highlighted by "The Last Dance." This blog is an expansion on Alyxandra's essay "In Which Our Intrepid Heroines Discuss the Merits of the Bad Boy Versus the Reformed Bad Boy" from A Visitor's Guide to Mystic Falls. Enjoy!

With those words, Damon blew up the Internet.

I was pretty sure all the fan fiction sites...

Enjoy the last season of Friday Night Lights LIVE with Smart Pop Books

This Friday, the fifth and final season of Friday Night Lights begins airing on NBC. Not only do we have an anthology coming out this August on the show, A Friday Night Lights Companion, but we're pretty huge fans of the residents of Dillon.

In honor of our book and the great show that inspired it, we're trying something a little new while this final season airs: we're going to live tweet the episodes. Both Leah and I will be online at @smartpopbooks for the duration of the episode (Leah will ...

Guest Post: Karen Mahoney Recaps the Latest Vampire Diaries' episode, "Know Thy Enemy"

After a month of reruns and anticipation, we were more than ready for the new Vampire Diaries episode, "Know Thy Enemy." Enjoy this recap by Karen Mahoney!

A whole month without The Vampire Diaries, and I was honestly starting to wonder what my life would look like if … gulp … TVD disappeared from our screens forever.

For-EVAH.

This can never happen, people, so everyone must tune in and make sure the ratings stay solid. I think season three is in the bag (it's gotta be, right?), but you can n...

Your favorite Hunger Games character (with pie chart!)

Other than the great comments it tends to produce, part of the reason we enjoy giving you guys a question to answer for contest entries is because it lets me indulge my secret desire to be the guy who crunches numbers for the OK Cupid blog when I grow up.

I work in a humanities field for a reason; I do not have his skills. But I have broken down your comments on your favorite Hunger Games character, and now present a very unscientific pie chart of:

This chart was based on 210 votes (8 of whom w...
