Friday Night Lights Episode 5.6, Twitter Party Recap

Due to unfortunate scheduling snafus, we weren't able to tweet (or watch, in my case) last week's episode, so it felt good to get back into the Twitter saddle this week.

Kicking off this week's episode, we pondered "Gracie Bell" vs "Gracie Belle." The majority seemed to lean toward Belle, unless Bell is a family name, and since the powers-that-be have never shared the inspiration behind the name, we were left to ponder.

Although we couldn't ponder for very long, since Julie distracted us all...

Smart Pop at BEA

Look for it to be a little quieter around our site next week. Jennifer and I will both be at BEA—BookExpo America—"the largest publishing event in North America": a yearly gathering at which book publishers tell the rest of the world (via media, booksellers, librarians, bloggers, other publishers, etc.) what books they have coming up that they're excited about. (You can follow attendees on Twitter by watching the #bookexpo and #bea11 tags—the former is the official tag, but we've seen a lot o...

Our Fall 2011 Smart Pop Titles

Our Fall 2011 Smart Pop titles are already on Amazon and elsewhere, and we'll be promoting them next week, too, at BEA (see tomorrow's post) . . . so we wanted to give them an official introduction here, as well. (And as we've been doing with our Spring 2011 titles, we'll give them a more in-depth intro closer to their actual pub date!)

Here are the six new Smart Pop titles to look forward to later this year:

OCTOBER 2011

The Psychology of Twilight
Edited by E. David Klonsky, PhD, and Alexis...

Guest Post: Bree Despain & Heidi R. Kling on The Vampire Diaries' Season Two Finale "As I Lay Dying"

With all the season finales piling up, I really hope the summer offers us some great new drama while we wait (toes tapping and A Visitor's Guide to Mystic Falls in hand) for The Vampire Diaries season three to arrive.

This finale, "As I Lay Dying," was phenomenal—definitely worth a second watch. But pause that DVR while A Visitor's Guide to Mystic Falls contributors Bree Despain and Heidi R. Kling dissect this episode (and predict what's to come next season)!

(Also, seriously, don't miss their...

Nyx in the House of Night: An anthology on P.C. and Kristin Cast's House of Night series

Last season, we did an official introduction post for our Fall 2010 books. This season, we're trying something new: officially announcing our Spring 2011 titles individually, each in their own post. If you've missed any, you can check them all out here.

***

Almost three years ago, I went to a book signing for P.C. and Kristin Cast just north of Dallas. P.C. had recently been our editor on Immortal, a collection of fabulous vampire short stories we released originally for Borders; Kristin had c...

Top Ten Best Moments of Last Week's "The Sun Also Rises" Vampire Diaries Episode

There are many spoilers in this list, so stop now if you haven't watched last weeks thrilling Vampire Diaries episode yet. (Although what on earth are you waiting for? Go! Watch! Return promptly!)

So, drumroll . . .

10. Damon referring to his "bucket list" in his opening scene with Katherine. What would be on that list, do you think? Mastering every smoldering look imaginable? (He's nearly there!)

9. Jenna's first "vampire eyes" scene. It's powerful stuff, and while no one was particularly...

Friday Night Lights Episode 5.4, Twitter Party Recap

The recap posts I write and Twitter parties I co-host in celebration of the last season of Friday Night Lights feel a little bittersweet. That's because with each episode we wrap up, we  are one step closer to the end of the best show I've ever watched.

Well, no time for sap now (that's to come, right after the finale), we have some recapping to do! We were lucky to have @fellowette (Sarah Seltzer, A Friday Night Lights Companion contributor) join us this episode and she kicked things off by t...

Guest Post: Vera Nazarian's recap of The Vampire Diaries' "The Last Day"

TVD fans enjoy Vera Nazarain's quippy recap of episode 20, "The Last Day," a truly turn-everything-upside-down-and-leave-us-hanging-from-a-cliff episode.

***

Wow, we're still kind of reeling from last week's episode shockers. Matt and Caroline's mother, the sheriff, are in cahoots, working together in secret … Elijah and Klaus are brothers … And Elijah is kinda hot and has a great weird sexy tension thing going on with Elena. The sun and moon curse is a fake that Klaus made up! Klaus is kinda h...
