Levar Burton, NOOOOO!

Just read that Reading Rainbow will no longer be on PBS after August 29. *sniff*

I don't know about the rest of you, but Reading Rainbow had a HUGE impact on me as a Tiny Reading Writing Rachel. I used to watch the show with The Mama, and we'd write down the books they talked about so that we could pick them up when we made our trip to the library. And like every little kid who watched it, I dreamed of being one of those kids talking about various books, then following it up with an enthusiastic,

Nazi Elves+Whips+Erin Go Bragh=OMGWTFBBQ??

Okay, so while I wait for my cover, I thought I'd share this one with you. I have to say, this has to be the freakiest/most awesome thing I have ever seen. I wonder what John Christopher thought when he first got the comps for this baby.

BEHOLD!

Yeah. Nazi Leprechauns. With whips. Kidnapping people from castles in Ireland.

Thanks so much to Judge a Book By Its Cover for bringing this insanity into my life

Happy weekend/nightmares, everybody! ;-)

In Memoriam, William Moore

For Daddy, 10/20/51- 7/28/97

Hate to come back from a long blog vacation with a sad post, but I try to talk about this day every year in some way or another. This is actually an edited version of a post I made two years ago on the tenth anniversary of my dad's death, but I'm reusing it since it still says pretty much everything I want to say about it. It's funny, but when Dad died, a lot of people said, "One day, you'll write about this." Twelve years later, I still haven't. Daddy got cancer when

КНИЖНЫЙ

Yeah, see that word up there? That is how you say "book" in Russian! (Allegedly. I just plugged it into an internet translator, so, you know, it could say most anything, and since this is the internet, it probably says something dirty. But for now let's just decide the internet didn't lie, and it does in fact say book and not, like, "fish boobs.")

So why am I speaking Russian on my blog? BECAUSE ALL 3 HEX HALL BOOKS SOLD TO RUSSIA! Yay!! For those of you playing along at home, that means you'll b

WIP Wednesday

Shamelessly stealing this from Trish Doller, but it's such a good idea that I couldn't resist! Here's a little snippet from HEX HALL 2: LOVE, AND HEX, AND MAGIC (actually, I kind of wish I could call it that now...Hmmm....) Please to enjoy this scene featuring Sophie, her vampire BFF Jenna, and the mysterious- and hot- Cal:

Jenna's grin returned full-force. "There's this club in London that's just for Prodigium. It's supposed to be awesome."
Ugh. A club just for Prodigium? That conjured

So Turns Out Writing a Sequel Is Hard...

EDITED TO ADD: HOLY CRAP, Y'ALL, I'M ON AMAZON!! I realize this probably seems like a stupid thing to be excited about since, um, being on Amazon is kind of a foregone conclusion when you write a book, BUT STILL. It's my name! And release date! And ISBN number!! I have to go lie down now...

Hello, all! I know, I know, I've been totally incommunicado here lately, but please don't take it personally! The BFF actually left a message on my phone the other day that can be summed up as, "Why do you nev

Shhhh....

*whispers* I'm still technically on Blogcation due to working on HEX HALL 2, but something very exciting happened today, so I'm sneaking back for just a sec to share!

First off, Maine was AMAZING. Have so many stories/pics to share when 'm back from Blogcation. But for now, I'll just say that Maine looked like this:

The hilariously named Bubble Pond at Acadia National Park

And we had an awesome time!

Now onto today's new. Had lots of errands to run this morning, and was feeling slightly frazzled whe

A Winner! (And Yes, I'm Totally Behind! As Usual!)

Whew! So sorry for the delay, folks! You ever have one of those weeks where everything just gets away from you? That was last week for me. I finished up pass pages, which was SO EXCITING because that means the book now goes to the Great Book Making Place, and the next time I see it, it will be bound in an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy). It felt like quite the accomplishment!

Then The Mama came up for a surprise visit, which was most excellent, but also took time away from the computer, obvs!

Then ther

Release Day for SILVER PHOENIX!

Just popping in for a sec. Got my "pass pages" today, which are giant sheets of paper that have the book laid out, looking all "booklike." It's a whole new experience reading HEX HALL like that! I've only ever seen it as a Word doc, so this is another stage in making everything feel very real.

Also, I am LOVING the fabulous day stories! I can't wait to let Small Son pick a winner tomorrow! (Also, I'm super glad I'm picking randomly, because all those stories are SO GOOD, and put a huge smile on

One Whole Year!

Yes folks, it was one year ago today that HEX HALL stopped being just a manuscript and began it's journey to bookdom! SO hard to believe it's been that long!

Now, I've told the story of THE CALL here and here, so I won't rehash it, but needless to day, April 22, 2008 was one of the greatest days of my life. In fact, if it weren't for Small Son being, you know, born and all, it would be THE greatest day of my life.

You see why the day that brought this guy into the world trumps even a book deal!
