NaNoWriMo, Take 2
Hey, you guys remember last year when I tried to finish REBEL BELLE during NaNoWriMo, and I failed epically at it? Well, I'm at it again! NaNoWriMo, that is. Not finishing REBEL BELLE. I'm still working on that, but this November, I'm tackling a whole new Super Seeeekriiiit Project. After finishing HEX HALL 2, I was a little adrift at what to do next. I'm around 40K into RB, but I was really looking for something new to sink my teeth into. I'd thought about starting work on my New Adult Paran...

HEX HALL Giveaway!
Okay, I've been Twitter Teasing about this for a couple of days, but now I can finally announce The Awesome Thing I've been promising!
No, sadly it's not my cover...YET. But Hyperion had the photo shoot for that last Thursday, so I'm hoping there will be cover-y goodness to show very soon! Editor Jen sent me emails from the shoot that basically had me shaking my laptop and screaming, "WHY AM I NOT IN NYC???" But then, I do that a lot anyway.
So today is Small Son's birthday (Four! Whole years o...

HUSH, HUSH= Awesome, Awesome
One of the biggest benefits of being a writer is having Writer Friends. Writing is such a weird job, and publishing is such a complicated business that it's a HUGE relief to hang out with people who are involved in it, too. Plus we're all kind of bizarre people who play with characters that live in our brains, so there's that!
One of my Writer Friends is Becca Fitzpatrick. I met Becca through The Tenners, and I have to say, she is just one of the sweetest people ever. Her book has (deservedl...

Extra! Extra! Somebody's Getting Married!
Not me, of course. As far as I know, bigamy is still illegal in Alabama (insert "unless you're related" joke here. Ba-dum-BUMP!) No, the bride in question is my sweet friend, Felicia. Some of you may remember Felicia as The Woman Who Bakes Magical Cupcakes (That Help Rachel Write Books). Not only does Felicia have mad cupcake making skillz, she's also one of my dearest friends, and pretty much the nicest person I know. You know people who can only bring sunshine and love and laughter into you...

In Which My Entire Week- Nay, MONTH!- Is Made
First off: FIVE MONTHS until HEX HALL hits shelves! Five months!! That seems very, very soon, which is equal parts terrifying and exciting. (Oh, also thanks to Lindsey Leavitt for correcting my math on that. I was talking to her yesterday and was all, "SIX MONTHS!" and she was like, "Yeah, Rachel, try FIVE." Math=not my strongest suit.)
Okay, so I'm not gonna lie: Things are pretty awesome here around Chez Hawkins. For starters, I *drum roll please* FINALLY turned in HEX HALL 2: THE JOY OF HEX...

Soap Box
Growing up, I loved soap operas. I mean, LOVED. From the time I was around 4 or 5, I would stop whatever I was doing at noon so that I could watch All My Children with The Mama (yes, yes, that was probably too little to be all up in Erica Kane's shenanigans, but whatever. I turned out fine. Mostly.) For those of you not old enough to remember, in the 80s, soap operas were the BOMB. They had location shoots, and people were always being blown up on jet skis, and thrown down wells so that their...

5 Things I Am Totally In Love With Right Now
My friend and Agent-mate, Kay Cassidy, has launched a GREAT website with Becca Fitzpatrick, Alyson Noel, and Tera Lyn Childs called Living Your Five. You need to go over there and check it out, but basically, it's about picking five things that you are really passionate about, and then seeing how you can use that passion to create positive change. It's completely amazing!
So in honor of that, I've decided to blog about 5 Things I Am Totally In Love With Right Now. Now, none of these are causes...

Zombies! Knights Templar! HALF-NAKED CHRISTIAN BALE!
That's what's going on on the fabulous Lindsey Leavitt's blog today (I like to call Lindsey "LL Cool L," which, as everyone knows, is her Street Name.)
LL is interviewing our Brother in Mickey Mouse, Sarwat Chadda. Not only did Sarwat write an awesome book- featuring a kick-ass girl and two hot guys, no less!- but he's also a seriously funny dude. And you can win stuff! So go check it out!
Lindsey, Sarwat, and Christian Bale. Truly, a magical combo.

Decatur Book Festival
I'll be there this weekend, along with fellow Alabama Tenners and Cool Chicks, Lindsey Leavitt and Irene Latham! VERY excited about seeing my friends, meeting some cool book bloggers, and stalking...er, seeing famous authors like Ally Carter, Richelle Mead, Lauren Myracle, Sara Gruen, Charlaine Harris, and DIANA GABALDON, who may be the recipient of my very first fangirling. I love the Outlander books more than I can say, y'all. If you haven't read them, run out right now and do so.

THE. END.
Are there any two more beautiful words to a writer than THE. END? I think not. Today, I got to finally (FINALLLLLLY) write those words at the bottom of my HEX HALL 2: HEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE Word doc, and lo, it was a beautiful moment.
That doesn't mean the work is done, of course. I still have a lot to do with regards to fleshing out some scenes, making sure motivations are clear, and I'm toying with the idea of adding an extra chapter. But all of that somehow feels easy and doable now that...
