The Business of Writing

So, you guys know how rarely I post about writing. It's not that I don't love talking about writing. I DO. It's just that, as I've said in the past, I so rarely feel like I have anything meaningful to add to the wealth of information already out there.

But the other day a comment someone made got me thinking. It wasn't a big thing. She just mentioned that she could see how my business background helped in my communications with other people. It made me realize that all those years in business D...

Trailerrrrrr!!!!

I know many of you have already seen the recently unveiled Guardian of the Gate trailer, but I thought I'd post it here for anyone who hasn't seen it. I'm especially proud of the music, which was composed by Kenneth. As always, he nailed this piece, entitled The Journey Begins. Watching his talent evolve is truly awe-inspiring.

I also wanted to point you guys to the first of the blog-hosted Guardian of the Gate giveaways! This one is being hosted by Bloody Bookaholics through July4th. You may ...

Friday Poll – Mr. 'Bama or Lady Gaga?

Before I get to this week's Friday Poll, I want to announce that I'll be touring with Jessica Verday, author of The Hollow and its upcoming sequel, The Haunted, in October!

We're calling it the Ghost and Graves Tour and are planning stops in some really cool – and spooky! – venues in addition to bookstores and libraries. I'm super excited because A) Jessica's a wonderful writer who shares my fascination with the macabre, B) I know we're going to have a crazy fun time, and C) I'm hoping to...

Thursday Night Write + Guardian of the Gate Clue?

That's right. I'm so badass that I'm actually going to give you guys a written prompt in the form of a passage from Guardian of the Gate.

Okay. That's not really badass. But let me have my fun, will you?

:D

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to mix up our picture prompts with something written, so this one will come in the form of a passage from Guardian of the Gate. This way, you get a teaser, too. Because I can even multi-task TNW!

Same rules apply; Give yourself no more than 30 minutes to...

Ipod Super Swag!!

Now that I've done the very important job of thanking the readers I already have through my Prophecy Superfan Prize Packs, I'm going to launch my first and only real contest of the year.

Having you guys spread the word makes ALL the difference, and I want to say thank you in as big a way possible. Those of you who were around when I launched Prophecy last year know how much I love giving away great swag, but this year I decided to do it a little bit differently. So instead of doing multiple...

Thanks so ,much to those of you who responded to my call for more Anonymous Teen Readers. I'm all booked up again (through the middle of August!), but if you'd like to be featured, you can still send me an email on Facebook or at prophecypress@aol.com and I can schedule you for late summer.

This week's Anonymous Teen Reader is Red. She has great taste in music AND movies. Plus, she likes to keep it simple – a girl after my own heart!

Are you a Prophecy Superfan?

What is a Prophecy Superfan?

Well, I think of a Prophecy Superfan as someone who loves the Prophecy series so much that they can't wait for the next book to come out. Superfans tell their friends about the book(s) and have often re-read the book or plan to re-read it to gear up for the release of Guardian of the Gate. They know off the top of their head when the next book comes out and plan to read it right away when it does. Most importantly, Superfans do the all-important job of spreading...

Friday Poll – Mean Girls vs. The Notebook!

I know a lot of people like to go out on Fridays, but I must be getting old and boring, because our Girls Movie Night has become one of my favorite parts of the week.

It goes like this; every Friday we plan something "fun" to eat for dinner. Sometimes I make tacos or really great burgers and sometimes we splurge on Thai food, but whatever we choose, we eat it while watching a movie "the girls" (aka Rebekah, Caroline, and me) get to choose. It's a never-fail way of knowing we'll get at least a ...

Thursday Night Write – Open Mic with Author Cheryl Herbsman

Sorry for the late Open Mic, guys. I was in the City all day investigating schools for Kenneth!

I know this is our third Open Mic in a row – and I promise you a prompt next week – but it's for a very good reason; I have another awesome guest commentator for you this week.

And I never turn down an opportunity to have a talented writer read your stuff!

:D

This week's guest commentator is Cheryl Herbsman, the author of Breathing, a beautifully written, lyrical story set in South Carolina. It's one o...
