Creature Feature
There's a new book out called Monsters in the Movies by the director .
It's a pictorial history of cinematic terrors of the last 100 years and got me thinking about which one I find the most frightening and why...

The Artist
There's a brand new silent movie coming out later this year called The Artist - it's a melodrama and won a prize at Cannes. Here is my review in tribute to the golden age before the talkies.

Silent Running
Silent Running, one of my all time favourite movies and one of the greatest sci fi films ever, is about to be released on BluRay disc. It was made by Douglas Trumbull as a reaction to Kubrick's much more celebrated 2001 and for my money it's the superior film.

Positive Expression
A couple of weeks back I asked you for suggestions of things you should do rather than don't do when going to the cinema - to go into a secondary Code of Conduct. You came back with loads of good ideas - here I pick out some of my favourites.

Crowning Cronenberg
Veteran horror director David Cronenberg is about to be awarded a Fellowship by the BFI at this year's London Film Festival. I gave him a Kermode Fellowship a few years back and in my opinion he has given us some of the most extraordinary, disturbing and thought provoking films in all of cinema.

Scary Kids
I've been thinking a lot about Lynne Ramsay's new film We Need To Talk About Kevin and how it fits into a sub-genre that really interests me - movies that explore a strange fear of children and young people.
Just why is it that we seem to be afraid of our own kids?

Source Of Contagion
Director Steven Soderbergh has got a new film out this week - a 'real life' thriller about a pandemic that sweeps through the population and the resulting panic. But this film and others like it owe a big debt to the horror genre and such gems as George Romero's The Crazies.

Accentuate The Positive
Several people have suggested to me that the Cinema Code of Conduct is a bit negative and that what we need now is a complementary guide about what you can do to really enhance the film going experience. I'm looking for your input - together we can make a difference...

The Greatest Movie Never Made
's new film We Need To Talk About Kevin is released next week. It's a terrific adaptation of a difficult book and only her third feature to date. This is because after her first two films she spent years unsuccessfully trying to make The Lovely Bones. This got me thinking about all the other cherished but never realised projects and wondering what's the greatest movie never made?

has issued a statement saying that he will never speak in public again after it was revealed that he may face prosecution for the comments he made at a press conference in Cannes this year. Is his threat real and should he really be prosecuted for what he said?
