Drive In?

A few weeks back I left Drive out of my best films of last year because I couldn't decide which movie to take out of the list to make way for it. You have told me in no uncertain terms and here I reveal the result...

Review: The Iron Lady

Here is my review of The Iron Lady from last Friday's Kermode and Mayo's Film Review show.

Meryl Streep's performance has received much praise, but is the film any good?

Also, if you've seen the film, let me know what you made of it.

The Crying Game

There's an interview with on the Kermode and Mayo's Film Review show this Friday.

He's talking about his new film War Horse and among the subjects we cover is the emotional business of crying in the cinema.

What I want to know is what films have made you cry - not just the obvious tearjerkers mind you - and why?

Eleven from Eleven

At the end of 2011 I posted my ten worst movies of the year. Since then a lot of people have been asking me for my list of the best. I already revealed them on the 5 Live show but here they are again plus a difficult question - since I was forced to leave out Drive, one of my favourite movies of the year, which of my choices would you lose to make way for it?

Projection Party

I've frequently drawn attention to the dwindling number of projectionists in our cinemas and the awful danger of them disappearing altogether.

I recently went along to their annual gathering to present an award and meet some of the last members of this esteemed profession...

Looking Forward

We're almost at the end of 2011 and I'm thinking about the new year and what it will bring.

From the prospect of a black and white silent film winning the Best Picture Oscar to the July release of The Dark Knight Rises it looks like being a fascinating 12 months...

As I Have Said Before

I've kept up my campaign against 3D throughout 2011 but as this rare peek into the Kermode Uncut archives shows it's not the first time I have warned against fads and fashions in cinema. As you will see I have always been right in the past...

The Film That Changed My Life

Blogging about Mark Cousins' documentary The First Movie made me think about the experience that made me fall in love with cinema. In my case it was Krakatoa East Of Java - but what was the film you remember seeing that changed everything.
