Winners and losers

With the Oscars approaching and The Kermodes handed out this Saturday I want to know what is the greatest film never to figure in the Academy Awards?

Casting Call

I posted recently asking you to nominate the worst performance by an actor in a really good film. The response was overwhelming. Here I pick out some of your suggestions and ask a brand new question on the subject of casting.

Chill Factor

The Woman In Black is an old-fashioned ghost story that aims to scare you through suggestion rather than special effects. Seeing the film made me think about my most spine chilling moment in cinema - what is yours?

Too Many Tattoos?

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has been made twice - once in Swedish and once in the English language.

The Hollywood remake has had a favourable reception but what does the box office tell us about the two films?

is coming on the Kermode and Mayo's Films Review show this week to talk about his new film A Dangerous Method.

A while back I said that he was the natural successor to - do you agree with me?

Call Of The Wild

The Grey is out this week, a film about a group of men being hunted by wolves after a plane crash strands them in the wilderness. It's being billed as 'Jaws with claws' and set me thinking about all the other creatures that have preyed on us humans in the movies.

Great Performance, Shame About The Film

gives a fantastic performance in Madonna's 'W.E' - unfortunately the film is one of the worst I've ever seen.

This got me wondering about other examples of great acting in terrible movies.
