A Decade of Carnacki

10 years ago right about now, I was asked to write a Carnacki story and I went away and wrote three...The Blooded Iklwa, The Larkhall Barrow, and The Sisters of Mercy. These were published in a very limited edition print chapbook in the UK, and I thought that was it. But Carnacki kept coming back into my thoughts, and I wrote another for an anthology invite, then another for another anthology.

In the next few years I had enough for a collection, and Dark Regions Press picked it up, published it in a gorgeous deluxe hardcover, trade paperback and ebook editions with glorious illos by M Wayne Miller, and I had the bug good and proper. Over the decade Carnacki has come along alongside my other writing -- he has given me something to play with if I get stuck on a novel, a way out of any ruts I might have fallen into. He's also got me into several big name anthologies alongside the likes of Neil Gaiman, Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris and many others.

With the forthcoming STARRY WISDOM collection from Dark Regions, I'm now up somewhere around fifty Carnacki stories, and I've enven brought tht original chapbook back into print on Amazon. That might be a good place for me to stop and move on.

But then again...

A Meikle Book a Day for Halloween, Day 11 – THE DUNFIELD TERROR

This one is set in Newfoundland and has some glowing fog, a mad scientist, lots of snow, a shipwreck, some tentacled things, a dead whale, rum, cigarettes, some boats of various sizes, a bar or two, some stiff upper lips, a shed and a multitude of universes, among other things.

A Meikle Book a Day for Halloween, Day 10 – CARNACKI: HEAVEN AND HELL

Carnacki resonated with me immediately on my first reading many years ago.

A Meikle Book a Day for Halloween, Day 7 – THE HOLE

THE HOLE reached the top 100 overall in the Amazon Kindle charts, and reached #3 in Amazon Horror for all formats.

The origins of this one are simple - I heard two news reports on the same day.
