How to Flow With Time

It’s like we’ve all been wearing super high-definition virtual reality headsets with surround sound and smellavision all our lives. It’s easy to forget the awe and wonder that lies just beneath the surface. Our brains are physical objects designed to recreate the physical world. But the more we practice, the more we listen to our heart and intuition, and the more tuned we will be to our own inner peace and joy. When we have constant access to that, we can flow with time and no temporary aggravation can disturb us.

I have found that meditation, closing my eyes, disconnecting from the outer world, and turning my attention inward is the best practices for becoming in tune with our mysterious miraculous universe.

Path to Peace How to Avoid Impulsive Decisions When You’re Not Thinking Straight

When we're  anxious, stressed, angry, unhappy, depressed or grieving, impulsive thinking and behavior can easily creep into our lives. This is when we are most likely to succumb to destructive and risky behavior that can make bad problems even worse.

So how do we avoid short-term thinking and behavior? How can we can avoid making bad decisions we'll only regret later? How do we recenter ourselves, see the bigger picture, and stay focused on our long-term well being?

When the Present Keeps Reminding You of Your Past Mistake

Q: Dear Todd, how do you let go of a past mistake? Life continues to forward a mistake and taint my new life chapters. It’s out of my control when a past boss continues to slander your name! Destroy thy reputation. I’ve tried to let go, yet it continues to haunt me, how to move on and let go?

TODD ANSWERS: It really takes trusting the universe that the universe has bigger plans in store for you, even if we can’t see them right now. Instead of trying to do something, let the universe do it for you

How Can I Embrace Present Moment If It’s Bad?

Q: Dear Todd, what if your “present” or “now moment” is you getting violently abused? Do you still enthusiastically embrace The Present?

TODD ANSWERS: I think of the true masters of martial art. If they ever get into a dangerous situation that they can’t get out of, they still don’t panic and they stay calm and present. This is how we both minimize the suffering and keep our heads about us for when an opportunity arises to get out of that situation. A clear and calm head is always necessary to see how best we can change our circumstances.

Path to Peace Feel Confident Being Seen, Heard, and Taking Up Space

All of us to some degree have a fear of being seen, truly seen. We put up walls, we build barriers, and we project an outward appearance that we think will be the most universally accepted.

But this artificial persona we create actually causes us great stress and insecurity. We constantly fear we'll be found out, we'll feel like imposters, and our needy insecurity will make us doubt ourselves.

In today's podcast, I share the reasons why we put up these walls of inauthenticity, and I share some simple ways we can tear them down so we can live true to ourselves and to what makes us truly happy.

Still Have Resentment Towards My Ex. What to Do?

I understand how hard it can be when people don’t treat us the way we would treat others. It is disappointing, disheartening, and discouraging. People are messy and relationships can be very complicated, but we enter into them because of the immense meaning and purpose they bring.

To hold onto anger and resentment is to give up on people everywhere. It’s a battlefield out there, but we only have 3 options.

1) Become a recluse and avoid people.
2) Keep getting disappointed by people.
3) Keep trying, keep healing, keep putting yourself out there, keep taking chances for love, don’t give up on what your heart wants, forgive quick and often (this is an internal process and doesn’t mean trying to get back together with an ex), enjoy the journey whatever it may bring, allow it all to be OK, the good and the bad, and keep picking up and collecting the kind-hearted people you meet along the way.

How to Reconcile Worship of God With Nonduality/Oneness
All religions, spiritualities, mythologies, and even some theoretical physicists, really point to the same truth in my mind. That is that there is only this conscious universe. It’s been called many names, described in different ways, but ultimately pointing to that source from which everything emerged. What we know is that we are having a rich and dynamic conscious experience, but what we experience is essentially no more than empty space and energy. It is like the lightbulb that illuminates a film projector and brings the entire cinematic universe to life

How to Feel One With Everything

It is not easy to undo a lifetime of seeing the world in a specific way. The conscious mind can much more easily grasp onto a concept than it is for the heart to feel it on a deep level. In fact, in this instance, it appears like the mind is trying to think its way into the heart, but it doesn’t really happen that way. The Union of the heart and mind happens by first understanding, and second by getting the mind out of the way. Your mind already knows the truth, so now we have to set the thoughts aside to feel it. That deep empathy you feel, that is the oneness. But, you are also fixating on the surface level of the other person’s pain and not seeing their depth and light inside of them, so the surface stuff can feel overwhelming.

Instead of thinking about oneness or lack of it, just watch and feel. A person who has a deep sense of oneness may experience sadness, but it will be as a witness. They may observe anger or frustration, but they won’t lose themselves to these emotions. The key is to watch and stay present, even to one’s own thoughts and emotions. This is how we find the peacefulness that underlies all the seeming chaos in our lives.

I also highly recommend meditating on the interconnectedness of all things and beings. To do this, you can focus on something as simple as your lunch. Then, you simply reflect on how all living beings past and present, all the stars and planets, the air and the soil, the rain and the light, all came together to deliver and prepare your meal for you. What arises from this is a deep sense of oneness and gratitude.

Path to Peace When We’re Not Feeling Good Enough

Everyone will have failures in life. The more success we have, the more times we'll have failed. That's the nature of learning, growth and success. We will all have things that we feel inadequate about. Michael Jordan might be a great basketball player, but his Mandarin might be atrocious.

The reason we feel inadequate is not because we're imperfect, it's because we are comparing our unique selves to other people's unique skills and advantages. In today's podcast, I share how we can go from feeling inadequate to confident, master any skill, and love ourselves exactly as we are.

Want to Forget My Painful Past. How Long Will It Take?

While some people block out troubling memories, others live with painful memories their whole lives. But it’s not about whether we forget or remember, it’s about whether we have healed from our past. A painful past only stays painful if we haven’t healed. But over time, with patience and self-love, with reflection and introspection, we can heal from anything.

The problem is, painful memories don’t just stay in our head. They live in our whole body. They manifest as short choppy breathing, elevated blood pressure, and constricted blood vessels. And so we need our mind to communicate with our body that we are safe, that the painful past is over, and that we are ready to recover.

While it may seem like it’d be better to distract ourselves from the pain, the more time we give ourselves to sit with our painful thoughts and feelings, the faster the healing can take place. We must accept before we can move on. We must tend to our wounds if we are to heal. Drinking, drugs, entertainment, sex, social media, work and gambling will only delay our recovery. And to recover, we need love, and there is no one better to get it from than ourselves. We are always with ourselves, and so we must be our own teacher, healer, and greatest source of love and support. And you’re worth all the self-love in the world.
