Book Review: A Tale of Family, Love, & Adventure
A Cowboy’s Vow by Kate Condie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A Tale of Family, Love, & Adventure
This was my first cowboy romance and I loved it. From the very first scene, you know you are in the hands of an expert writer. The book starts off with a bang (literally) and the meet-cute is unforgettable. Thomas is a fantastic hero–one you’ll be wishing existed in real-life! Ivete is a flawed but loveable heroine–just like a real person. She is young and struggles with the choices she makes that will shape h...

Book Review: Birdie and the Beastly Duke
Birdie and the Beastly Duke (The Wishing Well Series Book 3): A Sweet Regency Romance by Sofi Laporte
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is my third Sofi Laporte book and Birdie may just be my favorite heroine yet! It’s a tie between Lucy and Birdie–sorry, Lucy!
Birdie is a curvy, precocious, and formidable young woman with a thirst for adventure. Her yearning takes her all the way into her very own gothic romance, complete with a stony castle and a stony-hearted hero.
Gabriel is a scarred hero who is obl...

Book Review: A Love Match for the Marquess
A Love Match for the Marquess by Cara Maxwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was a wonderful read and a poignant, heartfelt depiction of a new marriage!
Cara Maxwell is an excellent writer, and this may be her smoothest book yet.
The heroine of the story, Madison, is extremely likeable. She is determined to be her own person and not to hide who she really is in the search for a husband. She is also set on finding a love match, and when she believes she has mistakenly fallen into a marriage which will ...

Book Review: Beyond the Sunrise
Beyond the Sunrise by Mary Balogh
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I really wanted to like this book, and ultimately in some ways I did. Others, not so much. As always Mary Balogh is an excellent writer. She did impressive research, though I have to say I skipped through a lot of the descriptions of the details of war preparations because that’s not why I generally read a romance novel. (Unless it’s by Diana Gabaldon, sorry. And then I have to be in the mood for a more anxiety-inducing read.)
On the one han...

Mini-Book Review: Secrets Between Lovers
Secrets Between Lovers by Charlie Lane
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Superb writing. Likeable, well-developed characters. By the end of the first chapter, the world and people were real to me. That’s great world-building! Maggie, our spunky heroine, has entertainingly Bohemian parents who are loving but negligent—both with their children and their estate. Maggie is determined to elevate her family’s fortunes so she turns to the dangerous game of secret collecting and blackmail. Our hero, Blake, is eccen...

Book Review: Love Once Lost
“IT IS REASONABLE TO BE CAUTIOUS; TIME CAN ALTER PEOPLE IN UNEXPECTED WAYS. BUT IT WOULD BE UNWISE TO ASSUME THAT YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CARRIES THE SCARS OF THE PAST. AND THE REGRETS OF THE ROAD NOT TRAVELLED.”
love once lost, cara maxwell
Cara Maxwell has written a great second-chance romance with a fun espionage subplot!
There are two things I really like about this book in particular.
First, it’s set primarily i...

Excerpt from WIP: To All the Earls I’ve Loved Before

It was ridiculous. Comically ridiculous. She was having a knife pulled on her when she had one in her very own pocket for the same purpose.
She smiled widely at the man before she could think twice and leaned back with her elbows against the stone rail.
“What’s so funny?” The man narrowed his eyes.
She waved a hand and gave a little hiccup, half fear, half laughter.
Perhaps the large tumbler of madeira she had made herself drink before she had slipped out of the house was finally...
