CYBI? (Assoc. for Media Literacy)
“I’m glad I have a copy of this book in my school library”
“Unlike similar books, it doesn’t dwell on the ‘media is terrible and out to trick you’ angle. It demonstrates that with some applied strategies, it can be possible to be a more discerning reader/listener/viewer.”
-Diana Maliszewski, AML (Association for Media Literacy)

Can You Believe It? (Starred review, CCBC)

“This book helps young readers decide which online information they can trust—and which they can’t. Explore how real journalism is made, what “fake news” is and how to spot the difference. Learn about bylines and credible sources, influencers and clickbait. Readers are encouraged to approach online information with skepticism and to make smart choices about what they believe and share.”

Misinformation “one of the most pervasive threats to all our democracies,” Cdn Minister of Public Safety at G7 Summit

Canada’s federal public safety minister, Marco Mendicino, is inviting G7 representatives next year to a forum designed to create programs and tools to educate and fight against misinformation, according to CityNews.
“Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino extended the invitation to his counterparts this week at a meeting in Germany of interior ministers from G7 countries.”
Mendicino told the G7 that young people need to be better educated about the dangers of fake news and learn how to spot it.
At the G7 he called disinformation, “one of the most pervasive threats to all our democracies right now,” according to an article by the Globe and Mail.
I couldn’t agree more! My newest book, Can You Believe It? How to Spot Fake News and Find the Facts, is a great tool to help young people learn how to spot fake news and to understand how real news is created.

I’ll be live, chatting with Ramraajh Sharvendiran on CBC’s Ontario Morning, this Wednesday, Nov. 2.
It also happens to be I Read Canadian Day!
We’ll be talking about my book, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? HOW TO SPOT FAKE NEWS AND FIND THE FACTS.
After the interview I’ll post a link to our discussion on my website and socials, but you can tune in live on Wednesday if you’re in Southern Ontario, including Peterborough, Owen Sound, Barrie, Orillia, Belleville/Trenton, Brockville, Cornwall and Pembroke and surrounding areas.
I was interviewed by Ontario Morning’s Wei Chen back in … well, it was a few years ago, lol! Anyway, it was a terrific experience.
When I was living in Peterborough for six years, Ontario Morning was an important conduit to what was happening in the world. So I’m excited to chat with Ramraajh!
