Journey, a poem
Lucidity Lamb PhotographyJourneyLife is just a journey.
Not a destination.
Places we’re going aren’t the
places we’ve lived.
Life is just a journey.
Just an apparition.
Another dream that we have
something left to give.
Life is just a journey.
Just a hesitation.
So no need to worry about
things left undone.
Life is just a journey.
Be it fun or lonely.
And no one can say
What is yet to come.

Drunk Koala, a poem
Drunk Koala: Dark Chocolate
By Lucidity Lamb
I’m just a drunk koala,
Don’t pay me any mind.
I’m in between a snack and nap
And I’ve got loads of time.
All the days are blending,
But I think I heard a truck
Barreling down the open road
-Thought I’d try my luck.
I moved as quickly as I could,
I saw it coming fast.
And faster from the window
Flew a wrapper and some ash.
I made it to the wrapper,
It had bounced and rolled.
It smelled of something new to me,
Something dark and bold.
I’m just a drunk koala,
Don’t pay me any mind.
I’m in between a snack and nap
And I’ve got loads of time.
I picked it up and licked it.
The taste was divine:
Eucalyptus mixed with lightning,
Then mixed with blood and time.
I admit I was hazy.
I was moving pretty slow.
But I remember it quite clearly,
And I’ve just got to know.
What do you call this flavor?
And how can I get more?
Time to find my way to town
And knock on someone’s door.
I’m just a drunk koala,
Don’t pay me any mind.
I’m in between a snack and nap
And I’ve got loads of time.
Nearby, a car was resting.
And I guess I climbed inside.
I slept until the humans
Climbed in and made it drive.
They parked by a building
and laughing went inside.
They didn’t see me moving
Even though I didn’t hide.
I waited by a window
Until the moaning stopped.
I was hungry and clear-headed
But it was too late to stop.
I’m just a drunk koala,
Don’t pay me any mind.
I’m in between a snack and nap
And I’ve got loads of time.
I slashed through the screening
And let my nose find the treat
I took the bag right out the window
And wandered to a tree.
I climbed up high and settled,
Putting the bag somewhere safe.
I first had some eucalyptus
To take the edge of the ache.
When I was good and fuzzy,
I slashed through the bag and bars.
I slowly took a bite or five
And started to see stars.
I’d been a busy koala
And that’s just not my style
So I’ll leave the rest for later
And take a nap for a while.
I’m just a drunk koala,
Don’t pay me any mind.
I’m in between a snack and nap
And I’ve got loads of time.

Soggy Coffin Throne, a short poem
Soggy Coffin ThroneQuietly considering her own mortality,
She feels salty water rise.
Should she stay sitting,
Half buried by crushed seashells,
Rocks and bones and sand,
Chilly air will be replaced by
The unbreathable reality
Of her soggy coffin throne
As the ocean’s ticking clock
Strikes high tide.

Cinnamon Blueberry Yogurt/Smoothie Recipe
This delicious recipe uses low-sugar ingredients to make it wonderful for your health and taste marvelous! After a brief discussion of the ingredients, I am including the quick yogurt version of the recipe, followed by the full smoothie recipe. Try them both and let me know what you think!
Benefits of ingredients:Greek yogurt has less whey than regular yogurt, and therefore “has even more protein than regular yogurt.” It is also rich in probiotics and high in vitamin B12. (https://www.realsimple.com/greek-yogurt-health-benefits-7182253)
“Cinnamon is rich in antioxidants and other beneficial compounds. Some research suggests that it may help support blood sugar control, protect against heart disease, and reduce inflammation.” (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/10-proven-benefits-of-cinnamon)
“Honey is rich in nutrients and antioxidants, has antibacterial properties, and can play a role in diabetes management as part of a balanced diet.” (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/benefits-of-honey)
Vanilla may have many beneficial properties. It is rich in antioxidants, and may reduce inflammation, especially of the liver. “Research on the cardiovascular impact of vanilla, particularly its active ingredient, vanillin, has shown that it can measurably reduce cholesterol levels in the body.” The scent is “known to directly impact the brain and induce calmness… Some research has pointed to vanilla as a weight loss aid, due to its potentially appetite-suppressing properties. The extract of this plant is also known to help lower cholesterol levels, making your body and metabolism more efficient, and effectively supporting weight loss goals.” (https://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/herbs-and-spices/vanilla.html)
“Blueberries contain iron, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, and vitamin K.” They also have fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B6, antioxidants, and phytonutrient content. (https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/287710#benefits).
Yogurt VersionRecipe makes 1 serving.
3/4 cup Greek Yogurt (low sugar)1 tsp vanilla extract2 tsp Cinnamon1.5 Tbs Honey1/2 Cup BlueberriesStir the cinnamon, vanilla, and honey into the yogurt.
Add the blueberries.
Enjoy!
Smoothie VersionRecipe makes 1 serving.
1/2 Cup Blueberries1/4 Cup Water1/2 cup Greek Yogurt (low sugar)1 tsp vanilla extract2 tsp Cinnamon1.5 Tbs Honey1/2 Banana1/2 cup Milk (may be dairy, nut, etc.)Put the blueberries, honey, and water into a small pot. Cover. Heat on medium low until the blueberries are tender enough to crush with a spoon.
Use the spoon to press the blueberry mixture through a small strainer to remove the blueberry skins. (This will make the smoothie smoother.)
Place the blueberry mixture in the refrigerator to cool. (This can be done in larger quantities, and can be done the day before.)
Put the blueberry combination, banana, cinnamon, vanilla, yogurt, and milk into a blender. Note: The primary purpose of the milk is to thin the smoothie – adjust for preferred consistency.
Blend until smooth.
Enjoy!

Meditating on Nothing

Mediating on different subjects is a wonderful thing to do, but it’s not meditation. To me, meditation, by definition, is on nothing.
Yet, every other article on the subject is about meditating on nature, on change, on your purpose.. on something.
When you are starting out, it can be useful to have something to think about. And it is always good to take time out of your day for such careful examination of different subjects: life, change, politics, religion, the universe, or a specific problem.

But if your purpose is to enhance your ability to focus, to clear your mind and steady your soul, it is always best to practice that hard-to-obtain stillness. That emptiness of thought and feeling that is the goal of meditation.
Breath in and let the thoughts tumble and spin; breath out and let them flow from the sandy shore of your mind, out into the ethereal sea. Allow everything in.
Do not try to pin the thoughts down. This is not the time to examine them or deal with them. It is the time to watch them from afar, drifting by, unleashed, unchecked, unanchored. They simply are.

Take your emotional attention off of your body as well as your mind. Notice the tickles and pressures, comforts and discomforts, but let them be. Just observe them without emotion or desire. These are not things you need to impact. They simply are. You simply are.
Notice your surroundings but do not feel anything about them. Hear the footsteps but do not turn. Feel the fly but do not twitch. Smell the flowers but do not interpret the scent as good or bad. It simply is.
Now you are aware of all things, but have you “accomplished” meditation? No. You are practicing meditation. And that practice has amazing benefits from regulating your blood pressure to balancing your emotions. It can help you sleep better at night and be more awake during the day. You will notice many effects.

But you are not empty. People spend years practicing this, trying to get to that magic moment of serenity. Do not feel bad or frustrated if you never do. Many do not. But keep practicing.
Meditate on nothing until everything has drifted by. Practice your breathing, your counting, your relaxation techniques until you no longer need them. Then meditate again, for longer.
Maybe someday you will feel that slip into the divine depths of serenity. Maybe not. But your practice will have made everyday better, every moment clearer. It will have been worth it.

Start with one breath, right now. One deep breath. For a few seconds, let the world be as it is. Accept it, and yourself. Maybe you and the world will change but for right now, for this moment, simply be. Let it go and give yourself a moment of rest, meditating on nothing.

Butterfly Wings, a story poem
I was lost in a collage of lilies, roses, and weeds,
A field drifting toward freedom as, forgotten,
Flowers were left to fulfill wild aspirations.
I saw a scarlet butterfly perch on the tip of a blooming lily.
Petals and wings were open, showing twin patterns
Of color and shape and negative space.
I saw you across the glamour and pollen,
Standing on a path of clover and stone,
Your welcoming smile mirroring mine.
You waved as I did, two friends or lovers,
Strangers, in truth, and we
Began our journey toward each other.
You spoke your mind, and I spoke mine,
Lips shaping and sharing our pasts and dreams.
Our words were simultaneous; Our eyes were shy.
You saw the shape of the way that we stood,
And the gravel and grass beneath our feet.
Shadows joined as distance shrank for our embrace.
We parted and I turned, my eyes seeking wings
As they rose in a cloud of beauty, delicate and strong.
In their place, a beginning was planted, a seed of words.
We each felt the magnetic pull from behind
And turning, we absorbed each other’s gaze,
Each echoing a wave, goodbye, for now.

Rocky Horror Love, a poem for her
She brought my life to life.
She was beauty and intellect,
Energy and interest
And confident femininity.
She wore a lab coat and glasses,
With a pencil in her bun.
She wore striped tights and glitter,
With short skirts and bangles.
How I’d like to see her now,
My Rocky Horror Love,
But our love was only mine,
Invisible wall of heterosexuality
Holding one kind of love on my side,
And another on hers,
Like two universes sharing
A simultaneous, sensational sunrise.
