Patreon Microfiction: Tales From the Columbian Alliance: The Case of the Temporal Moralist!

100WS-TCA-CTMDownload

The major reason I don’t write more stuff in the same universe as “Tales From the Columbian Alliance: The Case of the Temporal Moralist!” is that I am not entirely certain what I want the universe of the Columbian Alliance to be. It’s pulp, sure. But what kind of pulp? If I go Indiana Jones, well: every Indiana Jones movie has the supernatural in it, and I dunno if I want to do that, too. I’m already doing a lot of magic/spooky stuff in my fiction already.

‘Jump in the Line.’

Jump in the Line, Harry Belafonte

I like this scene.

Book of the Week: Vampire the Masquerade: Fall of London.

I’ve had my eye on the Vampire the Masquerade: Fall of London RPG supplement for some time; and today was the intersection of desire, reduced price, and sufficient cash in my personal account to buy it. So why not? Really and truly, why not?

Jack and I, we have one particular thing in common with each other, and I guess with fishermen; we dream of the ones that get away. Or maybe ‘dream’ isn’t the right word. ‘Brood’ might work better.

It’s never happened to us, or at least not directly. When it comes to finding and killing Blasphemous Tomes, we were lucky until we got good, and I think both of us are pretty much ready to die rather than fail. When you have that kind of motivation, you get results. You also get to wonder whether today gets to be the day when ‘death’ and ‘failure’ are the only two options… What, you think these are gloomy thoughts? This is water-cooler banter, not that we usually have the time to stand around a water cooler.

At the moment, we didn’t have much else except time. This intervention was a bad one: the Blasphemous Tome we were hunting down had taken root within a reasonably blameless nonprofit, and was now on the verge of creating a community-driven participatory action that would gear up to capacity-build the existing donor pipeline into a steady stream of eternally screaming energy batteries…

Star Wars lofi (whatever *those* are) beats.

Oh, this is fun. Star Wars in a smooth hip-hop instrumental style by Closed on Sunday. Looks like a continual loop. You can get some of the songs here if you’re an old person like me,

Signups open for Microsoft Flight Simulator VR’s closed beta.

Speaking of the sudden spike in the cost of joysticks, this got announced yesterday: “Developer Asobo has now opened sign-ups for its forthcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator VR closed beta, which is expected to begin toward the end of this month or early November, and will initially be open to those with a Windows Mixed Reality headset.” …Plus a bunch of other restrictions which probably make sense if you’re one of the people who are deep into the world of MFS; from my admittedly outsider’s eye, it more or less translates as “no filthy casuals, please.”

I’m not actually judging; I imagine that this particular segment of the gaming community is in a high level of excitement tempered by worry over the news that they’re getting a VR component. The VATSIM people take this stuff to levels I could not afford to go. I just don’t have the money and I don’t have the time.

‘Blood Rave.’

This is, like, my favorite writing music. Also one of my favorite opening scenes for a movie (Blade, OBVIOUSLY).

The book cover for TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION continues apace.

I think it’s going to come out real nice.

The artist is Chris Hazelton (who I know from 6 Gun Mage, but he’s more well known for Misfile). It was a little more ‘modern’ post-apocalyptic than I had actually imagined, but we’re going to go with it. As a matter of symbolism it works extremely well with the theme of the anthology. And I wish I had thought of the Seattle Needle bit. I’m totally stealing that.

You can sign up for the notification for the start of the Kickstarter here.

A little snippet from ‘Wicked Why’ (REVISIONARY)

I’ve got some quiet time, so I’m using it to write a little more. This is something added to one of the stories I’m doing for the REVISIONARY chapbook.

Interviewer: Please state your name and profession, for the record.
L. Marcie: My name is Leann Marcie. I am an attache for the State Department’s Interdimensional Working Group.
I: Was this a position which provided for close contact with the interdimensional visitors commonly known as the Emissaries?
M: Yes, it was. I interacted regularly with various Emissaries, from the Consul on down.
I: If asked, can you provide accurate details of incidents involving the Emissaries?
M: Yes, at least for the ones where I was personally involved.
I: Would it be fair to say that you have any particular insight as to Emissary motivations and drives?
M: Most certainly not.
