BEHOLD! The Flying Koala digital race car.

For anybody visiting from tonight… TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION will be coming out by the end of the month (click here to preorder a signed copy). But in the meantime, check out my first novel, which is set in the same universe and called FROZEN DREAMS: it will be the best post-apocalyptic high urban fantasy pulp detective novel you will read today. Magic! Elf! Orc! Dwarf! Wisecracks! It has it all.

Oh, and subscribe to my mailing list!

:pause:

Right. Anyway: as the above might indicate, I’m sponsoring a car in the Penny Arcade racing circuit! This Thursday, and the first three Thursdays in February. The race tonight starts at 11 PM Eastern Time, and will be on their Twitch channel here. Pictures of the race car after the fold. I think it looks pretty dang spiffy.

PS: I’m doing it because it’s cool, and because that logo was born to be slapped on a racecar. Which is part of ‘because it’s cool.’

Ordered the proof of TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION today. (Cover Artwork and links!)

First I get the proof copy, then I check it, then I pull the trigger on it, then hopefully it gets published to Amazon. Then I’ll swear and fix whatever typos made it past all of that, because that’s what happens.

You can pre-order the book here. My Amazon author page is here. Annnnnd here’s the cover:

I like how it came out!

Tweet of the Day, An Interesting Muppets Crossover edition.

The Great Gatsby. I guess because it’s in the public domain now? I’m still reading it.

Nacho shrugged. “You do know war is coming,” he said. “I mean, between your country and Coahuila. It had come for us a long time ago.”

“Sure,” Bailey said. “We take slaps at each other all the time on the border here, and in Texas. Plus, they plain just want to fight.Them and the Sonorans — and the Durangans, too. They got one hell of a chip on their shoulder about the USA.”

“Losing wars will do that,” Nacho said; something in his voice made Bailey give him a quick look. The Mexican waved it off. “Forgive me; it was not the United States who conspired with Bravo and Agustin, or betrayed the Republic. And you are good friends to us now, to be sure.”

“Well, you said it: the war came to you a good while back,” Bailey shook his head. “A fair-minded man might allow that we should’ve hanged the lot in ‘23, right next to John Calhoun. Or at least Old Man Tyler.”

An animated FROM DUSK TILL DAWN is under production.

I assume it will not be rated PG: “For those of you who are fans of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s vampire horror film, From Dusk Till Dawn, you might be excited to learn that there’s an animated series in development that’s set in that universe.” And… it does not actually sound bad, either. Rodriguez apparently wants it all to be about Aztec vampire lore, which could be both gory, and fun. Not gonna lie: I liked Certain Dark Things, although I suspect this is not going to be that.

Got an interesting advertising thing to try.

Based around this:

There are "drivers" getting real sponsorship deals in our pretend racing league and I could not be happier. https://t.co/DKxXMXmtEn

I don’t know if I’ll make the money back on advertising this way. On the other hand, I find the idea pretty freaking rad and I can spend my money any way that I like. And on the gripping hand, most of the racers donate their sponsorships to Child’s Play, which is a charity that I heartily approve of. So I figure I can honorably shell out a few bucks on this.

The ‘DGAF’ BOSS LEVEL trailer.

I was wondering what BOSS LEVEL might offer that would distinguish itself from movies like, say, EDGE OF TOMORROW. Turns out the answer is “USE OR LOSE THE EXPLODY-BUDGET, BOYS! AND CLEAN OUT THE TROPES BOX WHILE YOU’RE AT IT!”

(Via GeekTyrant) This is not a criticism. I’m honestly more likely to see this movie than EDGE OF TOMORROW. It has the potential to amuse.

01/19/21 Snippet, THE FALL OF THE KINGDOM OF COAHUILA.

Caution!

“All right!” yelled Bailey as he approached the locked wagon. “Take it easy, whoever’s in there! The Royalist sons of bitches are all staring at the sky!” He thought about saying that again in Spanish, but he only knew a bit of that language. Hope this fella — or lady, dammit — speaks some English. Although whoever was inside wasn’t saying anything, either. Was it even a person? Gotta be. Why would they bring a critter along?

One of the soldiers had a key ring; it was pretty damn clear which was the key to the lock.  Bailey stepped forward, unlocked the padlock, and shook it off and onto the ground. Then he skedaddled back a few feet, gun ready but not pointing anywhere in particular. “All right! Lock’s off, you can come out. But you get out here nice and easy! Ain’t no need for more trouble.”

For a moment, Bailey thought that wasn’t gonna happen — and if it didn’t? Well now: he had a horse now, and somewhere to be. The way he saw it, he’d done his Christian duty for the day; whoever was in there was welcome to sort the rest out. Even loot the rest of the encampment, with Bailey’s compliments.
