01/18/21 Snippet, THE FALL OF THE KINGDOM of COAHUILA.
Trash-talk!

Bailey spent a bullet trying to spook out the soldiers before the wounded one broke cover and ran for the horses. Bailey put him down without a qualm. The fella wasn’t running away; he was running for help. But it took another shot to do it, and now it was just the last soldier and him.
“You want time to reload, Yankee?” came the cry from… over there, somewhere. Bailey couldn’t be real sure where without looking, and for damned sure he wasn’t gonna stand up to check. “Give you more of a sporting chance, hey?”
“Wouldn’t say no!” Bailey shouted back. “Tell you what. Let’s stand up, have ourselves a proper duel. Like gentlemen!” He then moved a bit, because he figured the soldier wanted an idea where he was, too.
That got a no-fooling raucous laugh. “Ain’t no gentleman here but me, boy. I don’t duel Yankees anyway. I whup ‘em, just like I would a slave.”
“You think you’re tough enough, runaway,” Bailey said with as much scorn as he could manage, “why don’t you come on over and try?”

The @SJGames GURPS Pyramid Scheme Kickstarter.
Steve Jackson Games is bringing back their Pyramid magazine, or at least testing out bringing back Pyramid. The GURPS Pyramid Scheme Kickstarter looks like it’s digital-only, which makes sense. It’s also a bit of a relief. I didn’t do their Car Wars Kickstarter because my question on the origins of the physical materials was… ah, not answered to my satisfaction. But this looks safe enough.

Movie of the Week: Master & Commander.
If you haven’t seen Master & Commander, don’t – unless you feel like swearing at a studio system that can make a movie like this, then never make a sequel to it. To be fair, though: it didn’t make enough money for a sequel. I’d love to know why, honestly. There’s some weird sociological reason for it, I’m sure. I shall try to avoid being bitter about the whole thing.
The WILLY’S WONDERLAND trailer.
This is one of the most Nicolas Cage projects ever. I don’t really think that I’ll see WILLY’S WONDERLAND, but I’m still kind of happy that it exists. Nature is healing itself.
WandaVision is entertainingly messed up.
Finally sat down and watched both of the first episodes. I think that dropping the first two and then making people wait is smart: it establishes nicely that there’s something seriously weird about WandaVision. Mind you, I assumed that right from the start.
Also, an interesting note: I had it up on my computer with my earbuds in so as not to disturb everybody else. My wife watched a little, over my shoulder, and observed later that when you can’t hear anything the camera work is a lot more evocative of a horror show. Which I’m pretty sure is what WandaVision is. …Cool.
Patreon Microfiction: Scary Stories for Zombies.
Left out of ‘Scary Stories for Zombies’ is any explanation of how zombies type. Or maintain a publishing industry. This is intentional, because I haven’t a clue, either. :offering tray: Canape?
