Kids back at school!

…Sorta. They’re in full virtual mode, which is like the regular virtual mode, only with normal-length classes. Not as much homework, but they’ll be doing more classwork during the day. Some of the kids are back in physical classes, some are doing hybrid, my kids’ teachers kind of hinted that having me there to crack the metaphorical whip over mine would be optimal.

…Yeah, that’s fair. They’re my kids, after all. They come by it honestly.

PS: And thank God some of these kids are back in school. Not every family has the luxury of even an untrained in-house teacher’s aide.

Quote of the Day, Zack Snyder Still Has A Few More Birds Left To Flip At Warner edition.

You would think this would eventually stop being funny:

“There is Zack Snyder’s Justice League ‘Justice is Gray’ edition, which is the black and white version, which I’m a huge advocate of and huge admirer of. For me, it’s my favorite version of the movie. I understand that people want to see it in color, and that’s great, and I really want them to enjoy it in color. But for me, the ultimate version is the black and white IMAX version of the movie, which is sort of the penultimate ridiculous movie that shouldn’t exist at its highest most fetishistic level, and I really, really love that. And of course, the black and white version of Justice League will be released on HBO Max, at some point after release, I believe, and you’ll be able to see that somehow on, I don’t know how you’re gonna get to it but that’s the plan.

Bolding mine. Yeah, so Zack Snyder got to have a black and white version of his film finished and it was filmed in IMAX. Why? Because f*ck you, that’s why.

Moe Lane

PS: The sheer frustration and nigh-impotent fury in this AV Club post over the alleged sequel-hinting cliffhanger in The Snyder Cut is a wonder to behold. Let me add to it: how, exactly, are they supposed to demonstrate that JUSTICE LEAGUE didn’t make enough money to justify a sequel? No, AV Club: don’t answer right away. Think about it for a few minutes first.

PPS: What the hell did Joss Whedon do on the set to give Snyder this much power, and who sent Snyder the pictures?

The ‘You won’t believe it’s not Deep Ones’ LUCA trailer.

Okay, okay: LUCA doesn’t look at all like horror, honestly. But I do wonder what Pixar could do with some old school cosmic terror. It’d sort of be like… Dark Pixar.

…Dark Pixar would be kind of scary, huh?

I’m not exactly sure why ‘Clypeus.’ I don’t quite remember. The sentiment’s real, though.

The JOKER/CRUELLA fan-made trailer.

This really does work surprisingly well. Although I assume some editing was done to ensure that. But that’s fine. Sometimes you have to help nature along…

Turns out if you overlay the sound from the Joker trailer onto the Cruella one it fits so well you get a prequel film about Joker's mother. pic.twitter.com/C70lHoHQvd

02/27/21 Snippet, MARKET DAY AT THE PECZ.

I’ve gotten a title finally, apparently.

The Big Bells had been pulled from the ruins of St. Mary’s and brought south just before the Council decided to turn Custer Street into a wall. Literally pulled: the three bells were undamaged by the lightning strike that had destroyed the cathedral (and the would-be ‘Lord Protector of Portland’ inside it), and were so light a single person could carry one. Their supernaturally reduced weight went away after the Big Bells were rehung at the center of PCC, but they still retained other, esoteric qualities.

Theurgic, Janet reminded herself as the bells pealed waves of blue-gold melody across the PECZ. The technical term is ‘theurgic.’ It’s not magic. It was some kind of divine power; one that even the Catholics didn’t really comprehend very well. Which meant the Council couldn’t use the Bells very often. Those waves of melody seemed to have opinions about the state of your soul, and after listening for a while one got the impression the Bells weren’t very impressed with any rationalizations the average, well, sinner might offer up as an excuse.

On the other hand, the Bells absolutely loathed whatever was in the Devilwood.

Book of the Week: Drinking Midnight Wine.

Simon R Green’s Drinking Midnight Wine‘s been out for a while, but I thought I’d give it a whirl. I liked Shadows Fall, after all. Or at least I did when I read it.
