Baen Books: The Ring of Fire will continue.
Excellent news. The Ring of Fire is an excellent shared-world alternate history universe, and I plan to keep buying the books for as long as they keep publishing them.

Baen Books Continues Publishing Eric Flint’s “1632” Novels
RIVERDALE, NEW YORK, OCTOBER 17, 2025 — Toni Weisskopf has announced that Baen Books will be publishing more books in Eric Flint's 1632 series.

PS: The learning curve for writing for the Ring of Fire series is ferocious. I don’t have the bandwidth to get up to speed on it, and still do other things. I’m not saying that out of false modesty, or with disappointment. I literally just want to read these.

My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up), Fall Out Boy

Well, this FRANKENSTEIN clip looks nicely gothic.
Oscar Isaacs in particular looks rather insane, in an interesting and almost animalistic way. Works for me, honestly. If you’re not chewing the scenery in a Frankenstein movie, why even bother?
Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth, opens in theaters October 17 and premieres on Netflix November 7! #IGNFanFest

10/16/2025 Snippet, FOR THE DEAD TRAVEL FAST.
Dominion management styles!
…
Once on the ground and at the mobile command Tower, Morrigan did not waste time in small talk, even by the flexible standards of the Universal Dominion. “We were assaulted by sky pirates,” she snapped at the Bastion War Mage hastily running up to her. “Bring me your most useless mage.”
They did. The idiot didn’t even know what was happening; he was still kissing the ground in front of her when Morrigan reached out and squished his head. The blood spray at least was impressive. “We will not tolerate future loss of air superiority in the rear. Any mage not actively on the line, or too injured to fight, will be securing the skies until the front stabilizes.”
“Yes, Paramount War Mage.” The Bastion might have said more, except at that point his own head disappeared in a spray of gore and meat. Morrigan looked on with mild peevishness; she’d been hoping that the body would stay up for a moment, before toppling over. Apparently this day was just going to be a litany of disappointments.

The “…IT’S A CHIMPANZEE. WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?” PRIMATE trailer.
THIS IS LITERALLY JUST ANY CHIMPANZEE.
Look. I meet a orangutan, I keep my hands to myself and it’ll be fine. It gives me a banana, we’re going to be cool with each other. A gorilla? Just wants to be left alone. Don’t make eye contact, give it lots of space, everything will work out. Baboons? Yes, they’re more aggressive; but, believe it or not, they’d rather not start stuff with the naked apes.
Chimps? Chimps will [expletive deleted] you up on general principles. They do not need to go rabid first, which is what I’m assuming happened here. They’ll just go ahead and do it because they suddenly hate your stupid human face.
…Idiots.

PS: This is also a movie that would be over in about thirty minutes if the humans had guns, and twenty-five of those minutes would be the setup to the confrontation. And, before you raise the objection; chimps don’t have the right kind of hands for firearms. Because apparently somebody thought about this scenario ahead of time, thank God.
The Inevitable ‘This has Omelas vibes’ D&D picture post.
I judge myself for using ‘ritual’ twice.
I mean, God. There's a BEHOLDER. RIGHT THERE. That ain't good! That is the OPPOSITE of good!

PS: The story you’re trying to remember is ‘Walk Away,’ and you can find it here.
MORGAN BAROD makes its milestone!
It is one of the distressing details of independent authorship that most indy authors simply don’t sell many books. And I really do mean not many. Depending on who you ask, the average book sells less than one hundred and fifty copies. Which makes this a somewhat battered boast:

Note that I’ve sold a bunch more than this, thanks to Kickstarters, in-person sales, and the oddities of Kindle Unlimited. But I can point to this with MORGAN BAROD. There is a footprint that proves I made the sales. It’s a minor detail, but one that’s personally significant to me.
Anyway. Obviously, next up is TINSEL RAIN. Only forty-one sales to go!

The Toreador trailer to VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE BLOODLINES 2.
Look how they massacred my girl*.
Yeah, I ran Toreador in VTM: Bloodlines. What of it? I wanted a high Humanity character, and I got one. …Mostly. Society of Leopold fighters were a different story after I got shot by one of their damned crossbows for the first time.

*Still gonna play it, though. Grimly. For as long as I can stand it.
