Typepad is going away.

Word went down a couple of days ago. …End of an era, my friends. End of an era. I’ve already exported all of my old Typepad sites that I actually care about, but I don’t know whether to put them back up again. Because, again: end of an era.

Patreon Microfiction: Cyber-Market Share.

100WS-Cyber-Market ShareDownload

Note that the strategy mentioned in “Cyber-Market Share” is not infallible. I don’t care how many of my books you buy, I’m still not gonna be okay with your human conversion factory scheme. But for regular stuff, yeah, any Digital-American that reads me is clearly going to be an entity of intelligence and discernment…

Book of the Week: ‘Salem’s Lot.

I wanted to see the new show, but apparently it wasn’t that great. That’s a shame: ‘Salem’s Lot is a great vampire novel. I kind of feel bad that Stephen King has been spending so much of the last years of his life trying to get away from the stuff he made when he was pissed at college English departments instead of trying to make them love him.

08/30/2025 Snippet, BANSHEE BEACH (74,492 words)

This passage might need working on.

Lucas loomed over me, blotting out the noonday sun. “Hey, Tom. Isn’t this your hat?”

I groaned, and levered myself to something like a sitting position. The sodden mass of fabric flopped down the other sodden mass of fabric that was my shirt and ended up in my lap. “Yeah, probably. Deserter.”

Lucas offered me an arm up, but his face was concerned. “What, did something happen? I thought it’d be fine for me to go check on that thing.”

“What? Oh, no, not you.” I twisted the fabric until the water gushed out, untwisted it, gave it a good final shaking, and put my hat back on my head. “Things got a little busy at the end of the surfing lesson.”

“He means he wiped out,” Catty corrected me, before looking up from her board to focus on Lucas. “Not bad, for a first timer… oh. Hi.” I swear, her voice went richer in two syllables. Lucas focused back on her for the first time and — burped. Loudly. I mean, everyone within twenty feet noticed.

Catty sure did; the flush starting to rise in her cheeks abruptly winked out, like a sunrise hiding behind a storm cloud. “Friend of yours, Shamus?” she asked me, dubiously.

Need thoughts on this DriveThruRPG banner ad.

The banner ad in question. Clicking on it on the site will take it right to the Fermi Resolution Worldbook product page, and anybody who clicks on it should know that, so that should not be a problem. Also: the banner ad dimensions are hardwired in, and can’t be changed. Anything else that could be relevant?

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

I plan to spend it at home, working on the novel, with occasional bouts of going outside because it’s gonna be gorgeous. I feel the urge to grill things rising. Probably burgers. Maybe a steak. It’s all up in the air.

Holiday posting in effect.

FrightReads in two weeks!

September 13-14, Howard County Fairgrounds.

As a reminder, I’ll be on Fright Reads‘ Saturday 1 PM Authors 101 panel. I’m not gonna be the only one, but I’m slated to talk up crowdfunding and independent publishing. That’s always fun. I’m also going to be trying out a new table layout at this one. There will be something to hang things from! It’s very exciting.

As always: if you can’t make it, you can buy my books here and here.
