The 1899 teaser trailer.

This might be worth perusing. Although it’s not out yet, and I don’t know when. I suspect even ‘2022’ may be a little ambitious.

More backstory!

‘Easy,’ Joe decided twenty minutes later, probably meant something different in the local halfling dialect. The word sure didn’t apply to the plan they had quickly thrown together. Hell, the only reason it wasn’t more complicated was because there were only three of them to carry it out.

But at least his job was simple enough: all he had to be was the Big, Bad Orc. That had meant daubing his clothes and horse with intricate patterns of mud, just like an old-style chieftain from the days of yore. And skulls. There had to be a skull hat!

Well, that part wasn’t hard. There had been the occasional cow or gryphon skull, bleaching quietly in the sun, and the cow skull he was wearing now would hold together long enough for the diversion. The patterns, though… like he knew what the patterns meant! The Grushnarks might have been able to trace their ancestry all the way back to the Wars of Formation, but the family records were silent about its pre-Imperial forebears. Probably for a really good reason. Joe had smeared some lines on his face and upper torso in a vague pattern, and hoped for the best. Again, the disguise didn’t have to last long, just long enough.

The ‘I was expecting more body horror’ Guillermo del Toro PINOCCHIO Netflix trailer.

Sorry, but I was. I mean, this PINOCCHIO doesn’t particularly messed up at all. Is that… allowed?

Full points for stop-motion, though.

The alpha reading of TINSEL RAIN is done!

Verdict: approval, and it was a better first-draft than FROZEN DREAMS‘. Which is obviously the goal. It would be horrid if my third novel was no better than my first. The whole point is to get better.

Right now I’m spending the rest of the week trying to get the alpha edits done, so that I can start the new month by getting the text to the beta readers. The Kickstarter starts some time before the end of February, so that I can advertise it at Farpoint; and then it’s just a matter of hopefully collecting enough pledges to pay the editor in a timely fashion. There’s also going to need to be edits of the map and a proper cover layout, too. But the editing is the absolutely most important thing.

Wow. I’m publishing another novel! Neat, that.

The Magic Number.

I liked it. I was born in the City, after all.

01/23/22 Snippet, DESERT.

This one isn’t going to be 13K words.

“Yeah, let’s talk about that,” Joe said as the three of them moved back further into the underbrush giving them cover. “We were looking for the point-ears. Well, we found them. We can break away, and go get help.”

Blondie looked like she was about to hiss something pungent, but Shiner put one hand on her arm. “He’s just saying what our choices are, Blondie. Let him give them all.”

“Thanks. But then there’s the people in cages. We go away and get the cavalry, they ain’t gonna be here when we get back. And the cavalry won’t go far into the Elflands. That’s a good way to get them not coming back. And then there’s the banners.”

Shiner took a turn on the binoculars. “Damn. They’re Salamanders? Shit.”

“Afraid so.” Joe glanced at Blondie, who was clearly not getting it. “These elves are from House Salamander. Those were the real hardasses during the invasion. The kind of point-ears who’d swear oaths to die before they’d give up, and they meant them, too. Their kingdom lasted the longest before we drove them west, into the Elflands.”

“Shame it wasn’t back into the sea,” Shiner muttered. “Nobody asked the bastards to come for a visit.”

How much Batman is too much Batman?

Call me a heretic, but four hours of Batman might indeed be too much Batman.

The runtime for the highly anticipated The Batman film was recently revealed, with the film set to be nearly three hours in length. According to a recent report, an earlier cut of the film was even longer.

In a new edition of The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter, it was reported that some test screenings for The Batman showed off an early, four-hour cut of the film.

At least, in theaters. I might sit still for a four hour THE BATMAN movie on DVD. It will depend on how much I like the theatrical version.

Took the kids to see SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME today!

And they had a blast. It’s been hard in the past to get the kids to sit through a movie, but this afternoon they were enthralled. It helps that they’ve seen ALL the Spider-Man flicks, mind you. Including the ones that we sort of dismiss.

So that was real fun. We’re probably going to do it again for the new Sonic movie, too. They really want to see it, and I… well, Jim Carrey is entertaining as Dr. Robotnik. I’m sure I can make it through the flick all right.

Patreon Microfiction: Leisurely Apocalypse.

100WS-Leisurely ApocalypseDownload

I mean, ‘Leisurely Apocalypse’ is just what it says in the tin. But that applies to both words, too. You might not be surprised to hear that people inside the universe aren’t exactly panicking. At least, not yet.
