Yeeeeah I don’t know if there’s gonna be a MORBIUS sequel.

The movie is currently bombing. We’ll get Morbius showing up in a future Spider-Man flick, but… “Adria Arjona teased Martine Bancroft’s role in Morbius’ potential sequel now that [SPOILER*].” …let’s just say that the secondary characters don’t have a very good chance of ever being seen again.

Which is a shame. There was eighty percent of a good movie in there. They just needed to get the hero and villain set up with the same incident, preferably in the first ten minutes of the film, then used all that time saved to make the love interest really creepy-obsessed with vampires. And they should’ve ditched the post-credit scenes, too. People felt they made no sense, and people knew what they were talking about.

*SPOILER because I didn’t realize that event was what happened until the article told me, and I watched the damned movie.

My mini-review of EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE.

Short version: wow that was good

Slightly longer version: EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE is yet another goddamn spectacular A24 movie. It’s not a martial arts action flick, despite the fact that quite a lot of it involves martial arts, and action. It’s like… well. It’s sort of like an arthouse film, only good. I almost can’t wait to see what pieces of junk get the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director next year instead.

Why? Because Hollywood doesn’t like it when you make movies that are too good. They raise awkward questions, like: Why aren’t you guys making stuff like this, too? But that’s a rant for a different day. Go ahead and see EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. It Does Not Suck.

‘Going in the Record.’

‘Going in the Record’ is even worse than you think. It didn’t just grab everything you’ve ever posted. Oh, no. It also grabbed everything you wrote, but then deleted before hitting ‘Send.’

Tweet-thread of the Day, Herzog’s Entry In Particular Rings True edition.

You don’t want to mess with that dude.

Thinking about auteurs I could beat in a fight. Del Toro? Squash his ass 100%. Decimate both Andersons, no problem. Lynch too busy meditating or drinking a milkshake, so that'd be one-sided. Any mumblecore director other than Swanberg: WASHED. Ferrera? They'd never find my body

Working on the TINSEL RAIN Backerkit!

Money’s come in, so it’s time to start constructing SKUs and setting up the Backerkit store and the rest of it. I also should be getting chapters soon, and once that happens things start to move along. We’re well on track to fulfilling TINSEL RAIN early, but if I want that to stay on track then I had better get cracking, right?

I’ll put up links when they’re ready. In the meantime, there’s my Amazon page.

Book of the Week: Abomination.

Found this one on my desktop: Abomination is a horror novel by Gary Whitta, set in the time of Alfred the Great. It’s got evil magic and monsters and suchlike in it, and so far it’s really good. I’m just trying to figure out how I got a copy. I have literally no memory of receiving one, and I definitely didn’t buy it on Amazon. And I’m having the Devil of a time installing it on my phone, too.

Weird.

Updated slightly to reflect The Ethereal Players Guide. Not that many people would notice, alas. Oh, well.

April 8, 2022

So, I get to see EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE in theaters after all.

Turns out that the buzz for EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE was sufficiently good that my usual go-to theater is actually showing it. I’m looking forward to checking it out. I don’t really think of myself as a movie snob – to put it mildly – but the movies A24 puts out are usually worth a serious look-see. I don’t always go to see one of their flicks, but I always take the decision to do so seriously.

Plus, it’s an opportunity to go out and grab a cold beer and a hot chicken sandwich. I now treasure that almost as much as I treasure going to an actual movie theater. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder…

It’s Spring Break!

Dear Lord, but this last week. Eldest has first year in high school, youngest starting the preparation period that will result in him being in in-person school next year, and then there’s me. I am not a natural teacher and/or teacher’s aide, to put it mildly.

But we have a week off, and that’s gonna be real nice. Movies, visits from relatives, and hopefully a chance to concentrate on stuff I’m writing instead of synonym lists and essay proofreading. I can hardly wait.
