The FALLOUT: LONDON Fan Mod trailer.

Fan mods of this level of sophistication never seem to get off the ground, alas. Still: I’d play a professional version of FALLOUT: LONDON. I also give them points for using vanilla resources whenever possible. That can seriously extend development time.

The SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 Honest Trailer.

It’s… it’s just such a weird franchise. Mostly because SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 should have absolutely sucked. Video game movie, right? But the kids loved it, and I didn’t mind it, and the bits with the chaos wedding were pretty damned funny. Natasha Rothwell absolutely sold me on her character being one fraying thread of self-control away from burning the entire resort down to bedrock.

I mean, Sonic’s not deep cinema, but it wasn’t bad.

So, obviously, back from Balticon.

I didn’t quite make back the table fee, which was a disappointment. Even if I had, the parking fee (while reasonable for four days) would have been a bridge too far, as it were. I don’t think I’m really able to justify total convention fees above a hundred bucks at the moment*.

On the bright side: Galactic Con is in two weeks, and I’m pretty sure I can hustle enough to pay for the table. After that? We’ll see. Retail’s tougher than it looks.

*It’s a shame, though. I did sell a bunch of TALES FROM THE FERMI RESOLUTION. People seemed receptive to the idea of ‘buy this book of short stories to see whether you like the concept,’ especially at a ten buck price point. I’m going to work with that in the future. I’m also going to have links to the artists’ websites on the table, which I should have been doing all along.

I need to accept the fact that THE DAY AFTER RAGNAROK is a dead game line. Which is a shame: this was going to be one heck of an addition to my GAZETEER OF THE POISONED LANDS pitch. I have thought about this one, let me tell you.

This is pretty good as a meta-parody. I liked that one bit in the middle where I automatically fumbled for the mouse. They got me on that one.

Last day at Balticon.

Had a small mini-worry about COVID, but I tested negative. Which is nice: trying to figure out how to break down the site under the circumstances would have been a massive pain.

As to the convention: well, if I have a good day today I might make back the table fee. But not the table fee and the parking. The gas I’m not even gonna bring up. I think my future here for the next year or so is going to be the smaller venues, where the site fees will be lower (and I can hope to get more sales). Also, I’m definitely gonna need to write more books…

Book of the Week: TINSEL RAIN.

I’m trying to proof the print version of TINSEL RAIN this weekend, but it’s going slow because I gotta keep one eye on the book and the other on potential customers. But that’s all right: I just need a few hours of uninterrupted time. And maybe another full night’s sleep; it’s barely 9 PM and I’m yawning.
