The WEDNESDAY Netflix teaser trailer.
It’s… bloodier than I expected.
And I’m not really sold on the casting for Morticia and Gomez. I’m assuming they’re not getting much screen time, though (I originally wrote that out as ‘scream time,’ which is pretty funny!). I wonder if Tim Burton decided to make a horror show? – Because no version of the Addams Family (besides the original comics) has ever really been horror. It’s always been spooky comedy. Maybe Tim Burton’s decided to change that…
First look at GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S CABINET OF CURIOUSITIES.
I am looking forward to GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S CABINET OF CURIOUSITIES.
“Dreams in the Witch-House” and “Pickman’s Model*” are both interesting choices for inclusion, in that they are both some of Lovecraft’s most intimate works. I might have swapped out “The Terrible Old Man” for “Witch-House,” but then: I’m not Guilllermo del Toro, so what do I know?

*I’m certainly excited to see how this anthology’s take on “Pickman’s Model” diverges or converges with mine. And mine is only 99 cents!

Honest Theme Songs: JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION.
In lieu of a song that’s commercially available on Amazon. To quote James Lileks: this song is a labor of hate. And one of the strangely glorious things about it is their feeling of utter despair. Especially if you like Chris Pratt.

The JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION Honest Trailer.
(Yes, I’m feeling a little better, but after this and the next one I’m going back to bed.)
Anyway. JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION*. I don’t Honest Trailers were fans.
*#commissionearned. And I’m not gonna judge. I mean, I linked to it, right?
Not feeling so hot.
It’s not COVID, unless the test did a false negative, but there are other illnesses out there. Including summer colds. I’m gonna go take a nap, see if that helps any.
Sad news: Ring of Fire Press to shut down.
At least, that’s the word here. Ring of Fire Press was Eric Flint’s baby; and without him, they can’t keep going. It’s a damned shame: I bought a lot of their books.
More here. It looks like it’s been very comprehensively decided, alas. Which is, again, a damned shame.

‘Classical Gas.’
ROGUE ONE doing a limited IMAX release.
That might be worth it. I went to see ROGUE ONE when it came out, and the battle scenes were awesome on the big screen, but I had no real desire to see it again that way. Seeing it on IMAX, though? …Maybe.
Not really all that interested in ANDOR, though. I wanna see the reviews first. It may not thrill my soul.

08/15/22 Snippet, TOUR OF DUTY.
Shenanigans!

Power came on today, which was exciting. Well, it was exciting for the five seconds that the power was actually on. And it was really exciting for Senior Technician Aldini, because he ended up embedded in a wall. He didn’t die, thanks to his suit and the wall, but when we got him back to the pinnace it turned out both his legs were broken.
Aldini didn’t freak out about that, though. No, Aldini freaked out when Fifth Officer Chin (our fearless leader, at least on this pinnace) wouldn’t let him go back to the Blobmart. He started screaming about how you don’t need legs in free fall, Chin ordered him to take a sedative, and the next thing you know, four of us were trying to grab him and hold him steady long enough for Aldini to get the sedative anyway. That was a fun five minutes, and when Chin finally gave him the injection she went with a double dose. Kind of risky, but I for one am going to have a black eye from all the flail about he did. He didn’t die, so why worry about it?
Chin looked around afterward, and I’m pretty sure she locked eyes with each of the first-timers. She damn well locked eyes with me. “That was not someone going space-happy,” she told all of us. “You can tell by how Senior Technician Aldini did not try to chew off your fingers, or rip out your eyes. He is suffering from Temporary Mental Decohesion, and will be at full effectiveness once we return to the ship.
“TMD is a common problem in space travel, which can affect anyone. None of you are immune. It occurs when it occurs, and is difficult to defend against. Suffering from it is not a sign of moral weakness. I expect none of you will treat the Senior Technician differently, simply because he has been infected with a mental disease. Do I make myself clear?”
“She certainly made something clear,” Emily said later, as we sat around vainly trying to enjoy our coffee-substitutes. “Mental trauma is more common out here than we were told.”

RT to enter. The film stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Elena Kampouris.https://t.co/evbVBaS1eQ pic.twitter.com/Pbcv9Grf8x
More from Coming Soon: “A grieving detective in the near-future hunts down criminals who trade artificial humans on the black market,” reads the film’s synopsis. “In the fight to end AI exploitation, an underground resistance attempts to infiltrate him by sabotaging the programming of the artificial human assigned as his companion to behave like his late wife. She begins to question her reality as memories of a past life begin to surface in a world where nothing is as it seems.”
I’m not saying it can’t be a good movie, mind you. Just that the premise is off-putting. You make something sapient, you better have the citizenship papers signed and notarized when it opens its eyes for the first time. I mean, crap, we fought a war over the issue – and my side won. If this guy is the protagonist, he better get his head right, right away…
