The “This Doesn’t Look Half-Bad” THE PERIPHERAL Amazon Teaser Trailer.
I do like me some William Gibson, to be sure.
God knows if I’ll actually watch it, though. I never seem to have enough time to watch more than one or two shows, and even then I have to budget it. I suppose that’s good?
In the Mail: The Author’s Proof of DUTIES.
Faster than I expected, honestly. Fast enough that I’m wondering if I can have DUTIES ready for Fright Reads after all. It’d be tight, but depending on when I have this book published…
That was quick. pic.twitter.com/13uGIqFRVw

‘You Meant For Me.’
…Danged if I know what I did today.
Got some stuff done on the new story, yup. Helped the kids with their math homework, too (in the ‘explaining concepts’ category). And I… oh, right. I played Power Wash Simulator, because it’s so soothing. Basically, you’re given dirty things to wash. With your Power Wash tools. I’m in the middle of cleaning a carousel right now, and it’s so wonderfully finicky. And at the end? You have a clean whatever. There’s a legitimate sense of accomplishment. I suspect that I am actually slightly better at power washing now.
That’s pretty much it.
09/07/22 Snippet, BUZZ ON THE STREETS.
Ambiance!
You can always tell an Adventuring Guild storehouse from the smell. There’s a little bit of everything: sun, wet, wood, stone, slime, spices, rust, wool, wine, and well-scrubbed sweat and blood. It ain’t a bad smell, but you can tell that the stuff it comes from has been around. Usually it wasn’t by somebody’s choice, either.
Lucas walked the two of us through the tight corridors right to his own stockpile, which was impressive. The other way you can tell a Guild storehouse is from all the stuff piled up in it, every which way. Adventurers never throw anything away if they can help it. It’s all what you’re used to, I guess.
His own stash was larger than I expected, until I remembered that Lucas was being the bagman for his entire crew. I could see why, too: a lot of the visible stuff were the kind of items you didn’t melt down for the gold. Lucas saw me looking. “So, you probably heard we were looking for the Lost Treasure of the Rodeo Drive,” he said.
“Yeah,” I replied as I examined a gold-plated cigarette lighter. I flicked it, but there wasn’t any flame. Big surprise: it was, what, five hundred years old? I tossed it back. “Guess it wasn’t as lost as they thought.”

Tweet-thread of the Day, Content Warning edition.
Check out this thread, if you dare. After the fold because, fair warning, this is some messed-up shit involving AI-generated imagery. And it will soon mutate into an urban legend with disquieting speed.
Straight-up. (Via @RobinDLaws)

: I discovered this woman, who I call Loab, in April. The AI reproduced her more easily than most celebrities. Her presence is persistent, and she haunts every image she touches. CW: Take a seat. This is a true horror story, and veers sharply macabre. pic.twitter.com/gmUlf6mZtk

DUTIES is submitted for pre-order publishing / proof copy.
I have assigned 09/15/22 as the official Kindle publication date for DUTIES. I will put a pre-order link as soon as I have one, and this chapbook I’m going to be pushing heavily. I’m curious to see how many pre-orders I can generate with a sustained campaign, and this is a good choice for test platform. Oh, and here’s the cover:

I’ve finally figured out how to lick the color palette mismatch problem between Canva and KDP, too. Every day is a new opportunity for learning. Some days are more… opportune than others, mind you.
