‘Tommy.’
I vaguely remember somebody getting upset about me doing this, but I’m damned if I can recall why. Happy Veterans Day.

Hopefully, this week will go back to normal.
For given values of ‘normal.’ Everybody’s better or getting better, I don’t think I need to watch any more beach movies, and I plan to go get some sleep Real Soon Now. Hopefully that’ll get me nice and fresh for the morning’s writing.
Geez, what a week that was.
The cobbled-together CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD trailer.
I’ve never seen a Marvel movie presented less like a Marvel movie than CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD. Also the CGI looks… I dunno. Maybe it’s fine and I’m just old.
And maybe it’s not fine. …Alas, that doesn’t mean that I get to not be old anymore. That hardly seems fair.

That being said: Red Hulk doesn’t look too bad.
I am coming to the conclusion…
…that many of these beach movies do not hold up well. It’s not just the out-of-date cultural referents. It’s how the culture itself sounds different, pre-Beatles. On the bright side, I haven’t seen anything that should make me do things much differently for BANSHEE BEACH. My existing rough impressions of the genre are actually fine.
I should watch JAWS again, though.

Book of the Week revisited: The Lords of Creation.

This was not a great week for reading. However, Steve Stirling’s upcoming novel LORDS OF CREATION finally has a cover! …That’s just gonna have to do.
Oh, and read the first two in the series, too. They’re excellent.

The new hardscrabble MARVEL: THUNDERBOLTS* Special Look.
I still don’t know why the asterisk. Anyway… it’s kind of growing on me, you know? Sort of like SUICIDE SQUAD, with extra self-awareness. I mean, just look at this picture. Everything about THUNDERBOLTS is Silver to the MCU’s Golden Age, or possibly Bronze.
And it knows it. That’s what makes it interesting. There’s no illusions, no attempts to pretty it up. If this movie could drink, it’d be drinking the cheap stuff – and would start a brawl if mocked for it.
I weirdly respect that. At least the movie’s honest about itself.
New Flash Fiction contest!
Which I will not win, because I don’t win things. It’s weird, and yes, annoying. Still, it’s already written and I’m going to sit on it a day before I edit. In the meantime, I’m putting up the link in case you want to give it a try.
