‘1952 Vincent Black Lightning.’

I should just accept there’s never gonna be a MP3 of this.

Back to regular posting tomorrow.

It was good to take a little time off, but the work is piling up. In the meantime… I dunno. Buy some books?

My mini-review of NOSFERATU.

Short version: I liked it a good deal, but if you’re not into seeing a movie explore the idea of vampirism simultaneously being a metaphor for kinky sex and disease, well…

Slightly longer version: NOSFERATU is solid work, sometimes a slow burn, but it delivers the goods. Sometimes it’s delivering the goods in ways that simultaneously horrifies and arouses reviewers, based on some of the reviews I read. Eggers made it work, though. Good vampire movie.

PS: If you haven’t seen the original, any version of Dracula will do for explaining some of the context. Or SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, which is a vampire movie about the original vampire movie NOSFERATU. It’s also surprisingly hard to acquire the DVD for it. I mean, I already have it, but I dunno what the rest of you are gonna do…

Feedback requested on my Fermi Resolution Worldbook teaser page.

This is a serious question: what does this Fermi Resolution Worldbook Backerkit teaser page need? What should it include, what should it include more of, what would tempt you? Don’t get me wrong: I want everybody reading this to sign up for notifications about the Backerkit, to say nothing of backing the project itself. But right now I’m happy just to get feedback.

Merry Christmas.

Luke 2:1-20 (NIV).

The Birth of Jesus

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

12/24/2024 Snippet, NEVER RETURN.

The latest Timmy story simply isn’t working out. Luckily, I have NEVER RETURN already well close to finished.

“So it is both a ghost, and not a ghost, Sun?” Gallagher yipped a chuckle. “That sounds like a clever trick. I wonder if it has written it down.”

This time he was visiting me; I trusted Gallagher’s wards, but I trusted mine more. “Up close, it was rather less ‘clever,’ and more ‘starkly dangerous.’ Ghosts are one thing. Spirits are another. Things that can pick and choose which they want to be are damnably alarming.” I poured more tea. “Dare I hope that this sounds familiar, Freeman?”

“Sun, we have had magic for seven hundred years by now. Everything sounds familiar.” Gallagher grew serious. “How much of it makes sense is a different story. Your note said you have the paraphernalia you used to make a focus?”

“I do.” I pointed to the recently-offending items in question. “As you can see, they’re all safely pinned, warded, and grounded, every last page and scrap of them. None of them show any signs of retaining power or an occult connection. But then, they were similarly inert before a ghost used them to try to eat our faces.”

The RED ONE Honest Trailer.

They weren’t fans.

Personally, I thought RED ONE was fine, for given values of ‘fine.’ I’m not surprised Honest Trailers didn’t like it, though. I mean, they have to watch a lot of this stuff. All the time. Me? I can pick and choose my algorithmic homogenized cinematic product. That does make a difference.
