Re-upping: “Nothing Greater Than Us.” (Spoiler-y)
The site is a bit wonky, so I’m putting up little bits here and there that will be relevant to this month’s Fermi Resolution story/prologue/whatever. There are spoilers, but only if you’ve just read the books. If you’ve gotten the TTRPG game, you already know. And, really: why not get them all?

Tweet of the Day, This Is The Advice I Give edition.
Like I tell people: treat the brain as a muscle. Exercise it every day.
I've been "seriously" writing/getting published for getting close to ten years now (first publication in 2016) and here's my advice.

10/06/2025 Snippet, FOR THE DEAD TRAVEL FAST.
Needed to put in a section between two existing ones.
…
The map back in Morrigan’s own tower was even worse, because she didn’t have the luxury of being vague. Firewing only needed to know that they were losing. He didn’t need to have confirmation that they were losing by inches.
Seriously crucial inches. She scowled at the visualization of the Wabash front. An entire Circle’s worth of land had shifted from Dominion purple-green to ‘unworthy of rule’ blue-yellow. It had been a stubbornly persistent pimple on the front lines when she had taken the meeting, which heavily suggested that more of ancient Indiana was in the process of being written off. “What happened, Pan?” she asked her chief subordinate. “The ferals made one last push?”
Morrigan Ragemonger had never cared for the tradition of making a slave give out the bad news, because there was always something more useful to do with them. From the careful set of Senior War Mage Panic Misery’s face, this was one set of news he’d prefer to let somebody else share. “No, Archmage. The Highland Tower Circle, well, surrendered.”

Getting back to the schedule tomorrow.
And for real, this time. I need to work steadily through October. There is simply no alternative, at this point.
10/05/2025 Snippet, FOR THE DEAD TRAVEL FAST.
I guess we are doing this, after all.
Apprentices had friends. Those who learned better became mages, and established mutually-beneficial understandings. The ones who survived that long enough to be made Archmages understood that the best connection you could hope for was a rival who wouldn’t kill you on sight. The higher Morrigan rose, the more aggravating all of that became. She was certain that one reason why the Dominion wasn’t winning any wars lately was because everybody was more worried about their own side than the enemy.
Not that she was stupid enough to try to do anything about it. Not accepting the world as it existed was a weakness, and weakness was a quick path to death. The point was to inflict your Will on the universe anyway, and never mind the whiners.
Still, it would have been easier if she could have talked over her meeting with Wildfire with, well, anybody. The Archmage was clearly uninterested in fighting off the so-called ‘Grand Alliance;’ worse, he never would be. It wasn’t even if he only cared about drinking and swiving his life away before the inevitable end. No Supreme Archmage lasted long if he couldn’t control his pleasures.
No, the man simply was indifferent to the fate of the realm he ruled over. To him, Grand Moingoana was the realm, and he felt no loyalty to even that.
Which was why Morrigan was now standing in front of the only Archmage in the capital that she could talk to. And that was only because he was safely dead, and couldn’t reveal secrets to anyone.

The ‘You Have Reached Your Destination’ short film (A little gory).
I actually was a little worried that the theme of ‘You Have Reached Your Destination‘ was too close to something of mine I have in the back of my head, but it’s not. Huh. Maybe that should be this month’s short story.
Patreon Microfiction: “Silken Whispers in the Dark.”
‘Silken Whispers in the Dark’ suggests that even goddesses can become dissatisfied with their lot, and are ready to change. Is this a good thing? Depends if you liked the goddess fine the way she was.

Book of the Week: Death in the Palace.

Death in the Palace continues Barbara Hambly’s Silver Screen Historical Mysteries series, which is basically Bride of the Rat God and now-three sequels) with all the historical fantasy bits filed off. That didn’t bother me. What bothered me was trying to force me to pay paperback prices for an e-book. But this one is a lot more sensibly priced, so I pre-ordered it. See? It’s not so hard, publishers. Just take the concept of price points more seriously in the future.

Back from RisuCon!
Good sales day. …And this post took two hours to write, which should give you an idea how tired I am. Sleep is required, methinks.
