‘The Room Where It Happens.’
Book of the Week: Academy of Outcasts.

Larry Correia’s Academy of Outcasts is coming out in a couple of weeks. Gritty fantasy in a magical city; the sequel is called Magic and Bullets, which I presume is going to end up being the edge of the main character. Looking forward to it!

Spent the day helping out my eldest with something.
Nothing bad, I just had to reset priorities. Also, part of it involved cleaning the house, which it badly needed. I should have this happen more often.

Look, just give Sam Raimi a horror movie project.
Marvel actually has tons of horror-related stuff to draw from, so if they really want Sam Raimi to do something for them, just escort him into the archives on Friday night with plenty of coffee and sandwiches and let Sam go spelunking for a while. Whatever makes him go ‘ooh,’ budget it properly, and keep the notes down to a dull roar.
I mean, it works out wizzo for James Gunn, doesn’t it? Besides. It’s not like Marvel’s got much of a choice, here.
RisuCon in a week!
RisuCon promises to be a time. I’m not sure what’s gonna sell there, although I’m hoping for some movement on the RPG. I suspect I wouldn’t mind it if they had it at the fairgrounds every year, although I think that this was a best-they-could-do sort of situation. Hotel space has gotten very weird about conventions over the last few years.

See you there next week!

Getting close to the end.
Their sleep had been shockingly restful, and even barely enough to suit their needs. Mu even stood watch, although she warned them as they moved through the sewers that her sisters would be watching for her. “Alpha will seek replacement parts for her damaged arm, and Omega will harry her — and me.”
“Harry? Why isn’t Omega just trying to kill her?” asked Nat. “And can we get them underground? That would be very helpful.”
“Omega would have difficulty thinking of it. My sisters are self-aware, but they are not quick to adapt to new things. There is a procedure, and they will keep to it. And both of them hate being underground. We draw strength from the sun, and too much time away from it makes us weak and clumsy.” Mu looked down at her broken body. “They know that I must return above, from time to time, and strike at me then.”
“My apologies for saying so, Mu,” rumbled Oxman, “but your sisters are horrible.”

Welp, it’s official: Google Search is useless.
Yeah, yeah. Welcome to the party, pal.
Go look up “Dawn of Justice: At The Evil Gates.” …Yes, yes, it’s AI slop, obviously. The problem is, it’s AI slop that’s gotten inside Google’s OODA loop. Whoever put it together has a pretty good idea how to make it looks like a real movie is coming out next year: all you need is the aforementioned slop, a presence on Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, no links to anything, and now the AI slop Google wants us to use instead of Google Search is treating it all as a ‘real’ upcoming movie. Everything feeds on everything else, and at no point a human was there to say, “Hold on. This isn’t real.”
For the record, I don’t think this heralds the end of civilization, or scholarship. Somebody will develop the appropriate digital antibodies, eventually. I do suspect that it might herald the eventual end of Google, though. Because when this particular tulip craze crashes, it’s gonna take a bunch of companies with it…

I will have enough of THE FERMI RESOLUTION WORLDBOOK for RisuCon!

…If I don’t, then I’m going to have a very good RisuCon and I’m not going to care about selling out of the worldbook. The con’s in a week, too! And then Doxacon at the end of the month, and that’s all I have scheduled for this year. Although I should have Christmas season conventions lined up, honestly. That’s money on the table.
If you can’t make it to RisuCon, you can always pick up the Fermi Resolution Worldbook up here.
