Alternate Fermi Resolution Maps: 2807 AD (Dawn of the Third Age).

In retrospect, the Dominion picked a really bad time to have a succession crisis and civil war. It wasn’t just the loss of their Deseret conquests; the Imperium Orci was allowed to conquer south largely unsupervised. By the time the Dominion reasserted full control over the Imperial Court, missionaries had already begun spreading the good words of Christianity, civics, and the Enlightenment.

Moral of the story? I dunno. Don’t try to take over the world?

Book of the Week: Hogfather.

I have a powerful urge to sit down and read me some JRR Tolkien and Terry Pratchett. No, I don’t know why I’m not doing that, right now. Maybe because I think I’d need to get some cocoa going, first, and it’s a bit late for that.

At any rate: Hogfather by Sir pTerry is excellent. But hopefully you knew that already. I just wish they’d stop saddling his books with such awful covers…

I for one am glad that the days will start getting longer now. Admittedly, I still have to suffer through three months or so of bad weather, but that’s life in a temperate climate. I don’t think I’d like living in the tropics all the time, either.

My mini-review of LORD OF THE RINGS: RIDE OF THE ROHIRRIM.

Short version: dear God but some people just like to complain and kvetch about the least little damned things.

Slightly longer version: seriously, LORD OF THE RINGS: RIDE OF THE ROHIRRIM is good. It’s very anime, but it’s also good. The main characters are engaging, the two major secondary characters are hysterical, and the story doesn’t mess around with the larger History. JRR Tolkien would never have signed off on an animated version of anything Middle-Earth related, but if you pressed his shade the blessed soul would likely grudgingly admit that the production was done in a way that was mindful of what he wrote.

It’s not going to make a lot of money, and that’s a shame, but at least I got to see it in theaters.

Since one of them is to blow things up that other people don’t want you to blow up, better safe than sorry: call the nice explosive experts. You know. Just in case.

Trying to decide on the third Fermi Resolution historical map.

I was expecting it to be somewhere around the 2700s, since that’s more or less the widest expansion of the Universal Dominion, but the truth is that the Dominion went into a long period of stasis after trying to digest Deseret. Which it had far too much trouble doing. Possibly I should tweak the Vargas-era map, and show the board at the start of the Great War? That might work.

I dunno.

Things are going on. Maps are being revised / updated. This will be handy for a later project / stretch goal for the Fermi Resolution Worldbook Backerkit.

Obviously not the finished product, but my map guy needs to see where the changes will be.
