12/27/2024 Snippet, NEVER RETURN.
Getting to the big reveal!

“Direct or not, there was some link between the two.” Gallagher frowned. “I cannot imagine that either the ghost or the spirit are enjoying their inadvertent bond.”
“My sympathies would be stronger,” I retorted, “if I thought either entity fully deserved them. Our Mister David C. Shane was a thoroughly unpleasant man in life, and the spirit that has him stuck in its gullet seems little better. It took pleasure in killing the man, even if it cannot consume the soul. I would almost be willing to let the two have the joy of each other, except that their shared indigestion is troubling the rest of the city.”
“And there is the upcoming conference,” Curwin noted.
“And there is the upcoming conference. I have received word from Superintendent Marsh: his superiors would like assurances that we will not have our deliberations with our new allies interrupted by foul necromantic events. They are disquieted enough by our ethical ones.” I sighed. “That need for reassurance comes from the very top, gentlemen. Sprague House will be very concerned if things go poorly.”
“But not enough to give us actual support,” Gallagher muttered, probably out of politeness for Curwin’s and my practical inability to do the same. “The Marshes were always purse-pinchers.”
My mini-review of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3.
Short version: …the kids loved it.
Slightly longer version: …ehh. The kids loved it.
Oddly, the new THE MONKEY trailer isn’t up yet.
I saw it yesterday when we went to go see NOSFERATU. …I’m not going to lie. THE MONKEY looks like old-school Stephen King, before he — I’m not even going to finish that sentence, it was so unkind. Suffice it to say that the movie looks like a solid, gory, dark-humor style flick. Might be worth catching on the big screen, if you like blood splatters everywhere. My eldest is seriously considering it, at least.

‘1952 Vincent Black Lightning.’
I should just accept there’s never gonna be a MP3 of this.

Back to regular posting tomorrow.
It was good to take a little time off, but the work is piling up. In the meantime… I dunno. Buy some books?
In the Mail: my Christmas present!
This is obviously from Skin Horse, and it will get framed with all due speed.

My mini-review of NOSFERATU.
Short version: I liked it a good deal, but if you’re not into seeing a movie explore the idea of vampirism simultaneously being a metaphor for kinky sex and disease, well…
Slightly longer version: NOSFERATU is solid work, sometimes a slow burn, but it delivers the goods. Sometimes it’s delivering the goods in ways that simultaneously horrifies and arouses reviewers, based on some of the reviews I read. Eggers made it work, though. Good vampire movie.
PS: If you haven’t seen the original, any version of Dracula will do for explaining some of the context. Or SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, which is a vampire movie about the original vampire movie NOSFERATU. It’s also surprisingly hard to acquire the DVD for it. I mean, I already have it, but I dunno what the rest of you are gonna do…

‘It Came Upon A Midnight Clear.’
Feedback requested on my Fermi Resolution Worldbook teaser page.
This is a serious question: what does this Fermi Resolution Worldbook Backerkit teaser page need? What should it include, what should it include more of, what would tempt you? Don’t get me wrong: I want everybody reading this to sign up for notifications about the Backerkit, to say nothing of backing the project itself. But right now I’m happy just to get feedback.

Merry Christmas.
Luke 2:1-20 (NIV).
The Birth of Jesus2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
