I will be doing a crowdfunding talk at Halfway to Halloween.

As is my wont. I’ve done this talk before at Halfway to Halloween, and fortunately this time I don’t seem to be followed by a guy trying to make a pitch for why small vendors should take out personal business loans. (They should not, unless they are absolutely certain of their business plans.) I’ll have the Fermi Resolution Worldbook Backerkit fresh in my head, too, which will be nice…

PS: As always: if you can’t make it, buy my books here.

More blocking out of stories.

I really kind of hate that it works so well. I actually know how to make my new Flim-Flam story work! Plus, I can incorporate an earlier story that I never knew how to fit into a bigger world. Now, I do.

I still miss being spontaneous.

The Lead & Chrome Backerkit has hit its first stretch goal!

Lead & Chrome is the post-apocalyptic TTRPG project my Fermi Resolution Worldbook is cross-collaborating with. If you’re more into “Mad Max with Mutants” than “future fantasy America,” go back that one instead. Or, you know, back both. Both is likewise good.

Anyway: they’ve hit their first stretch goal, which is great news! Go help them get along even further!

Where’ll I be at Once Upon A Con.

Once Upon A Con is August 14-17, 2025, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor. And I have a table:

I’m not putting up the GoH list and so forth yet because I’m not sure it’s been finalized. They’re saying it’s going to be a fairly large convention, so hopefully there will be many opportunities for me to sell books over the four days I’ll be there. And, as always: if you can’t wait, buy my books now!

Please back The Fermi Resolution Worldbook on Backerkit!

We are firmly in the dread doldrums of the crowdfunding experience, where the first rush of pledges have ended, and the last wave has yet to come. But now is an excellent time to back the Fermi Resolution Worldbook on Backerkit, because it will make me feel better. I mean, really, why lie about it?

The current stretch goals:

$2,500 (current): A PDF adventure! This will be available for all backers at Senior Adventurer and above. It’s based off of my short story “The Wolf-Man of Westhaven,” and will double as a look at a different time period than the main campaign’s. There will be a map!$3,000: Tip the team! I’m a firm believer in spreading around good fortune. If we hit this goal, I’ll toss in a little something extra for Ben Fleuter (artist) and Dungeon Master Tuz (layout maven). More about them here.$4,000: Another PDF adventure! Like the current stretch goal, this will be available to for all backers at Senior Adventurer and above. The actual details are to be determined, but again: there will be a map!

02/17/2025 Snippet, PICKMAN’S MODELS.

I absolutely hate it when it turns out that blocking out a story ahead of time is the answer to my write-a-story problems. It feels like I’m vaguely letting down the pantser team.

Finding more margin wasn’t easier said than done. It couldn’t be done at all. At least, that’s what the cold equations told Tobias, and Asenath couldn’t find any give in the numbers, either.

Even the half-acknowledged settlers at Luna City couldn’t help him, not really. “We’ve cleaned this place out, Boss,” Corporal Buckley told him over a secure line. One secure enough to let Buckley show his face. He and the other Loonies had gone through some changes. A permanent sardonic grin on his anomalous face was the least of them.

There was nothing but respect in Buckley’s tone, though. “We’ve packed up we can. Volatiles, supplies, spare batteries and gear, you name it. If we don’t need it to survive ourselves, you got it already, Boss. And we can survive a lot. Actually, if you ask me…”

“I’m not asking you, Corporal,” Tobias interrupted. “We’ve had this conversation already. The Lifeboat is our last ride home, and we can’t send it back. Anybody left behind is stuck on the Moon. Forever.”

Stellar Con Saturday!

Stellar Con will be this Saturday, at the DoubleTree Hilton in Pikesville. I don’t have my spot in the floorplan yet, sorry. I’m getting the impression that they have to play a little bit of Vendor Tetris this year.

As always: if you can’t wait until Saturday to buy one of my books, buy them now!

More snow coming Wednesday. Yay.

It’s been a pretty snowy winter around here, and I for one am more than ready for it to stop. Alas, nobody asked me. Or my kids, who are going to hate having to spend an extra week of school in June doing absolutely nothing at all…

Interesting. Odd, though. Via GeekTyrant.
