Not the most productive of days.

The beginning of my months usually aren’t, but I have to get back on the stick. I’ve got three stories, at least one adventure, and of course the next damn novel on the front burner, although the Fermi Resolution Worldbook may be the big thing this year. Financially? Probably be better to get the next novel out. My own heart? …I wanted to be a game writer just as badly as I wanted to be a novel writer. I’ve been putting the TTRPG stuff in a subordinate role for a while now, only now I want to see this out there. So I guess that’s what we’re doing this winter.

Andrew Garfield claims he’s not in SPIDER-MAN 4.

Yeah, there’s a problem with that: “The two-time Oscar nominee denied the recent reports, telling GQ UK: “I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”” That was because Andrew Garfield lied, and lied, and then he lied some more about not being in SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. Somebody leaked footage of him being in the movie, and he still lied about it. And Andrew Garfield’s not sorry at all about it.

Honestly, neither am I. But he might be telling the truth, anyway. But how can he prove it, before the movie’s out? It’s an interesting question, to be sure.

PS: There’s a lot of people that claim they were never fooled by the deepfaked deepfake. I will happily believe any of my regular readers who make that claim. Everybody else? …Well. Maybe some of them did, too. And maybe some of them really didn’t.

Tweet of the Day, The Term For This Is ‘Brutal Accuracy’ edition.

I was wondering what the angle was for letting AI homunculi on Meta, but it’s obvious: including fake eyeballs in your traffic boosts your traffic numbers, and thus ad rates.

Relatedly: stop buying ads on Facebook and Instagram.

Movie of the Week: SATURDAY NIGHT.

I REALLY wanted to see SATURDAY NIGHT in theaters when it came out, but the timing didn’t work, dammit. It comes out on DVD next week, though. That’ll just have to do.

PS: I was *just* old enough to be allowed to catch some of the shows because of Mr. Bill. There’s a reason I turned out the way I did.

Storm’s coming.

I mean that literally: they’re closing the schools early today. If I abruptly go radio silence this weekend, that’s why. We’re just going to have crappy weather for the next week.

So, hey, get some reading in this weekend! Start with mine. I reread FROZEN DREAMS yesterday, and while there’s a thing or two I’d tighten up, it’s still pretty damned good. If I do say so myself.

Ah, the Sleep Madness.

As in, I need to get some. It was the first day back to school for the kids, so I was up too early. And I was up too late the night before. I need to reestablish better sleep patterns.

Which I hate, but I’ll be 55 this year. So I best start keeping that in mind.

01/02/2025 Snippet, SUICIDE PLAGUE.

Oh, God, this jackwagon. I don’t even like this guy, too much.

Patreon!

Nobody looked happy, and that included all the people who Norm had quietly pegged as having a bug up their ass for all this reforming crap. Which made sense, because everybody here was a F-SOB first, and what they were hearing wasn’t good news for any of them. Politics was one thing; mandatory overtime was something else.
“I’m sure you all saw the squirt this weekend,” Regional Director Becky Chin announced, the grit in her voice making it clear how well she was taking the news. “The Garner state legislature approved the amendment. So that’s three-fourths. That’s the ballgame. Hope you all enjoyed your weekend, because from this point on all unnecessary leave is canceled. Yeah, Norm?”

Norm lowered his hand. “I know what you mean by ‘unnecessary,’ but we got new people here. You should really drive it home for them.”

Becky laughed, which is what Norm wanted. She was a pretty good boss. “Sure, Norm. You can get married, people. You can have a kid, personally. You can die. Everything else, let me just tell you ‘no’ now and get it out of the way. This comes all the way down from President Granger himself. We’re on a time crunch, and I wish I had given this briefing last week.”

She tapped her smartboard, and everybody else’s chimed in response. “Forty new Senators, eighty-five new Congresscritters, and we won’t know who the Hell any of them are until November.” A slight ripple of — something — went through the room. Norm figured it was apprehension and anticipation, mixed.

Finished going through the Fermi Resolution Worldbook files!

Which pretty much took me through the morning and a healthy chunk of the afternoon (it’s mailed out now to my layout guy, thank goodness). For the curious: I was looking for typos, incorrect numbers, mistakes, that sort of thing; the actual upgrade of the worldbook into something that can be purchased is the task of the professional I hired. Which is why I’m doing the Fermi Resolution Worldbook Backerkit in the first place, mind you. This stuff don’t come cheap.

January 1, 2025

Had a rescheduled game tonight.

First time in a month. My rogue lost half his hit points in two rounds! But he managed to hit the ghoul twice, even with disadvantage, and the ghoul was being engaged by a party member so it was time for that sweet, sweet Sneak Attack damage. Still, I kinda wish the barbarian had made it tonight. I have grown quite fond of Rage and Reckless Attack, especially at the level we’re at now. I’m even more fond of not being the most obvious target for the hungry undead.

Anyway, that’s what I was doing tonight.

PS: 9th level human Rogue. Really basic stuff here, barely using anything outside of the main book.
