June 21 Chasing Twilight

Welcome to my blog and the June 21, Chasing Twilight daily contest! This blog focuses mainly on things connected to my writing life. As a nod toward the contest, I'm including a link to my most favorite thing I've seen or read connected to Twilight. Click here  (It takes a few seconds to load, but it's totally worth it!)

On to today's question: What is the name of the photographer whose heartbreaking depiction of child laborers Kristen Landon found while doing research for The Limit?

School Visit Photo

Here's the photo of me with the students from my first classroom presentation connected to The Limit. These kids were great! We had a really fun time. I love talking to kids and hope to be able to do many more school visits in the future.

Chasing Twilight – Fun Contest, Prizes!!

A good friend of mine is sponsoring a contest – Chasing Twilight – as a countdown to the upcoming opening of the movie, Eclipse, on June 30. Click here for complete details. This contest will be a blast for Twilight fans, and it will also be a lot of fun for those of us who are not quite so obsessed. One part of the contest involves answering Twilight trivia questions, but another part involves visiting sponsor blogs and answering questions by searching the blog. There will be daily prizes...

One Year Ago

It's been almost exactly one year sinceI received the one of best phone calls of my life. It was the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. I had just finished my morning workout and was about to eat breakfast when the phone rang and one of my kids passed it over to me. It was the last person I'd expect to call me on a Saturday morning–my agent, Steven Chudney. He chatted with me for a while saying, "Well I'm about to go out of town for the weekend." I thought, "That's really nice, but why did...

Mr. Jolley's Class is the Best!

I just returned from my first classroom presentation connected with The Limit. One of my sons is currently in sixth grade, so his class made perfect guinea pigs for me to practice on. They were great! I'm so happy with the way the presentation went. I let the teacher, Mr. Jolley, borrow one of my two precious galleys and he's been reading it to the class over the past month or two. I was a little nervous going in–this is a HUGE class. My son told me I didn't have anything to worry about...

BEA 2010: Kids' Galleys to Grab

My agent alerted me to this PW article. The Limit made the list! For those of you who may not know, BEA is Book Expo America–a huge event in the industry that takes place in New York every year. Galleys are early editions of the book. They are in paperback form and often still contain some mistakes. So far mine have never shown the final cover. Galleys are given out to booksellers, reviewers, librarians, anyone the publisher thinks might help them boost sales. It's all about getting the word ...

New Cover for The Limit

A few days ago, as I was coming up from the basement after my morning workout, my husband said to me, "Have you looked at your website lately?" I told him I'd posted a new blog entry the night before. He said, "Go look at your website." I was a little worried. What could possibly be wrong with my website? I pulled it up and there, on the home page, next to my author's photo was the cover for The Limit–but not the cover I was expecting.

It turns out my editor had sent the new cover over that...

Oh, No! I won them all!

Last week I took my two daughters to a play–Once Upon a Mattress, which was really fun to watch. In the lobby, a table had been set up by some organization with a silent auction to raise money for–I don't even know what. Before we went in to find our seats, I wandered over to the table and checked out the items. Except for one item, no one had bid on any of them. I figured, hey, I'll start! I'll bid up the price a bit, get this charity a little more money. I barely even looked at the items I ...

Tech Overload!

For the past few weeks I (along with a HUGE amount of help from my tech team–a.k.a. my wonderful husband) have been updateing and redesigning my website and adding my author information on all sorts of Internet sites. It feels a little overwhelming, especially since I have the feeling we're barely scratching the surface. I hit some of the major sites: Facebook, Amazon, Goodreads (I just don't know if I'll ever be able to Twitter!). These sites all have great and easy ways for authors to...

Technical Difficulties Fixed – I Hope!

If you've visited this site in the past several months, you would have noticed some odd things happening on my home page. Every time I wrote a blog post, the title would appear on the home page! I had no idea how this was happening or how to fix it. Right now I'm in the process–with a huge amount of help from my wonderful husband–of redesigning my website. He figured out how to fix the problem–for the most part. The one problem that remained was that after we moved the blog posts to their...
