Writing

Like most means of communication, writing can change over time and so can Authors who can change and develop with learning more about who they are and what makes them inspired and how they want to inspire. Being an author can mean different things to different people. It is always good to be flexible in your writing and in your books while still writing about something you love or know about.

The one thing I find is that there are many books out there on writing and publishing your books. They often suggest a whole variety of things you should do. Often there is money needed to do a lot of those things. That has gotten me thinking about the whole process and how it is different and what things can be done if one has a limited budget. This has given me a whole new perspective.

Of course, this doesn't mean that the how to get your book published and how to sell books are wrong and if you know why you are doing it, some of the suggestions can be truly inspired. If you have the money to follow what is suggested, I'm sure they would be well worth following. However, I have seen some jump from one sort of thing to another and another and spend a lot of time to try to find a niche that fits for them and it takes a lot of wasted time. It ends up with a lot of different all over the place projects. This is something that you want to avoid doing a whole lot of.

Just remember when reading a book...it shows only one person's advice and they try to cover as many topics as they can. They may or may not have found the topic extremely useful and went on to something else but cold see merit in it for another person. Sometimes it is a matter of picking and choosing what they can or want to do. So, when reading these books, you should not try to do all the things they suggest in the space of a month. First, you'll be overwhelmed as they didn't come up with these wonderful ideas in one day or a month or a week...often it took them years to develop. Their work was a steady and consistent progression. They knew why they were doing a certain thing.

So with that understanding, read the books, choose what you want to start with. You can always add. Trying to do everything at once will only overwhelm you and potentially set you up to look like you're bouncing from thing to thing and set you up to feel inadequate.

Not everyone will agree with this...but I have seen some go through a variety of tasks and things and a lot of it changed or they picked up different levels of an area. It can be confusing for potential followers. In my opinion and I'm sure many will disagree, stability and consistency are very important in developing your personal brand. A steady progression will get you further than an all or nothing approach. If you write a blog, maintain it regularly....whether it be once a week or twice and so on. If you run a FB page, add regularly. Make sure there is some activity on the pages you run. It gives people something new to view or to check.

So, remember, it's always good to look at things and be realistically unrealistic. You can't do everything, but pick what you can do consistently and make sure it is quite consistent and manageable and add only that which seems useful to add and know why you are doing it.

Flowers

I'm always fascinated by the flowers...so many sizes, colors, shapes and no one is less beautiful than another and people might be more attracted to some types than others, but still can appreciate the beauty and perfection that is in each flower. Each one is special and different. I think often people could learn a lot from flowers. One of my favourite subjects is flowers. Even within each type of flower, there are differences....some are perfectly shaped, others are shaped differently from others. Each one is precious and special in their own way. No one points out these differences but just accept them as natural to the flower.

I wonder how the world would change if we saw people the same way as we see flowers. It's just something I think about sometimes.

I highly recommend that people be realistically unrealistic. More would be accomplished if everyone understood that we are like flowers, each special and unique in our own way. I would never have gotten any books done if I said, well, I don't have any budget to do them. So, why bother. Bother because you can, bother because there is something worth doing. Bother because everyone should be allowed to bloom. Isn't it interesting that people accept flower differences, but not differences in people?

Bet you thought it was just about flowers at first....then it became more. That's one of the things about life. At first it looks like it's one thing and then sometimes it becomes more. So, be realistically unrealistic. Make the world what it should be!

If you love flowers, you might want to check out:

Thanks for reading my blog!

Advice

Whenever someone takes on a project...such as writing a book, there are some that will laugh. Almost any enterprise that people will try to take on that is new, there will be those who laugh or discourage it. My advice for authors, in fact for anyone, is that you should not ever let that stop you from doing something positive and legal that you love. If, like me, you love photographs, flowers, wildlife, nature in all forms, then do it. If you love writing do it. If you put out a book and it is not bought right away, don't just give up. You did something you believe in. If you believe in something, then follow it in your daily life. If nothing else, it is something positive that you do. If that is a blog, a web page or anything else that isn't full of negativity and false information, then you are moving ahead. So, let people laugh...you don't have to pay attention to them and you don't have to accept their view of success or failure. Just keep moving ahead in a positive direction. Eventually things will come together in some way. Just being realistically unrealistic. Happy today!

Adventures in self publishing

My day started off with a notice that I had put my books in the wrong format. If one is, they all are. So, checked the site....and I could have sworn it had the format that I used, but nope. So, had to reload every book. This is good argument for keeping information and keeping track of your publishing and such. Luckily I had all the information and just had to find it all and repost. So, always, when you are new at something, be sure that you have the information at hand so that you aren't spending hours redoing things. You might not be recreating the wheel, but you certainly are doing a learn as you go thing. Remember always be realistically unrealistic. You are going to make errors. Just don't get discouraged by them. If you are, you'll never do another book. Have a great day!

Summer

Weather has changed fully to summer mode. It was kind of sudden onset. Just popped in to give the good news. All four of my books, including the newest are available on a variety of formats and sellers including Idigo onine! Thanks to the book sellers and Draft2Digital! You can access all my books via the link. I know it seems strange, but Indigo was my big step as it seems more local to me as we do have an Indigo in Charlottetown. There are book stores all over the Island, but Chapters/Indigo were the ones that were always more accessible for me where ever I lived...so feels more local :-).

Spring

We're finally seeing spring on the Island....though we got rid of snow awhile back, the temps were still under 20. We've broken that and now it's going to be warm, but maybe thundershowers. I've started my old hobby of walking to a deserted piece of shore and picking up the broken glass on walks with Sam the Wonder Dog and my husband. I'm not talking about that sea glass people talk about, but that nasty sharp stuff that sits there waiting for someone to step on it. I'm happy about this year as there is less of it than there had been. I named it Operation clean the beach one bag of glass at a time and did it often last year. This year bags only half full. That's a victory for me as they used to be very full. The shoreline is beautiful and doesn't need to be dangerous. It seemed a lot more unrealistic last year, but I dared to be realistically unrealistic and I'm seeing some headway. Doing some prep for future books. Ramses the Great was happy to see me back home later and kneads and cuddles occurred before he ran off happily to create kitty mayhem. Keeps me busy. Have a great night and don't forget to be realistically unrealistic!

Corrections

It's interesting how missing one little thing can create need for corrections. My author page on Draft2Digital had some problem. I finally came across a place I hadn't noticed before and there was the correction, super simple. So, sometimes it's worth taking a quick look later on. You might miss something and a small change could make your information more accessible.

Being realistically unrealistic can sometimes have it's benefits.

Have a great day :-)

Below is my updated author profile on Draft2Digital...including Amazon for all books.

Surprise

Not only do I do ebooks, but I also have other hobbies....including reading and some craft and sewing. A & J PEI Treasures is multifaceted. Our latest video shows how to make a simple teddy bear toy for your kitten/cat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTrPP... Hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoy making it and as much as Ramses the Great (our kitten) enjoys playing with it. We're getting more spring like weather with temperatures in the teens (degrees C in Canada). Have a wonderful day!

We have spring here...in the teens today...warmest it's been so far.
